Job Summary and Qualifications

General Statement of Duties:

Responsible for diagnostic imaging equipment to produce contrast enhanced radiographs of blood vessels to aid physician in diagnosis and treatment of disease. Operates fluoroscope to aid physician in viewing image of the guide wire or catheter through blood vessel to area of interest. Fills automatic injector with contrast media, sets flow rate, and activates injection of contrast media into blood vessels of patient, as directed by physician. Monitors video display of area of interest and adjusts density and contrast to obtain optimum exposure and starts filming sequence. Assure that sterile or non-sterile supplies such as contrast materials, catheters or other required equipment, are present and in working order or requisition materials.

Minimum Education, Experience, Training, Required Knowledge, Skill, Abilities and Other Job-Related Characteristics:

1. Education: Successful completion of radiologic technology program

2. Experience: 1 year experience as a radiologic technologist in a hospital setting

3. Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility and department/unit which are specific to the needs of the patient population served (if applicable).

Preferred: Advanced certification in Special Procedures or Cardiovascular Technology is preferred.

Minimum License, Certificates, or Registrations Required:

Required: Medical Radiologic Technologist Certification from Texas Department of Health Preferred: American Registry of Radiologic Technologists ARRT (VI) is desired.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

What you Will Do in this Role

1. Demonstrates competence in all areas of special procedures: positioning, physiology, procedure preparation, technical factors and surgical assistance.

2. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care to pediatric, adolescent, geriatric, adult patients

3. Ensures efficient workflow in Special Procedures Department by getting patients started on time and keeping room turnaround time to a minimum.

4. Responsible for the proper use of the computer system (scheduling exams, patient tracking, film tracking, proper completion of exams, capture charges).

5. Understands and follows infection control/universal precautions in the performance of all job tasks. Maintains order and cleanliness. Always practices sterile techniques and prevents cross contamination.

6. Responsible for the care and maintenance of existing IVs may be responsible for injecting specific medication under the direction of the physician.

Additional Roles:

1. May have access to radiopharmaceuticals, contrast agents and other non-controlled medications as appropriate to diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

2. Will integrate current scientific knowledge and technology into their work practices, play an active roll in the orientation and training of new employees and students and participate in continuing education provided to the department during work hours. Yearly, Technologist will participate in and complete their Job Skills/Competency Checklist.

3. Maintain an atmosphere of professionalism, communicate technical and general information to, as well as, display consideration to peers, medical personnel, and customers in a professional manner and promote a positive image in daily and professional activities. Technologist will maintain a clean, stocked, orderly work area.

4. All employees shall facilitate and participate in current and future Radiology Department CQI monitoring and implement changes accordingly. Employees shall assist in collection of data, reviewing and revising the CQI program to be in compliance with accrediting agencies, hospital goals, departmental policies and procedures. All employees shall demonstrate knowledge and responsibility for on going CQI.

5. Supports the mission and vision of the Methodist Healthcare System and demonstrates excellent customer service at all times.

6. Understands and is committed to helping the Methodist Healthcare System and its associated facilities achieve its goals.

7. Must learn and comply with System and facility safety policies and rules; must use appropriate safety equipment and procedures at all times; must immediately report all unsafe conditions to supervisors; must be familiar with all safety features of equipment, tools or materials encompassed by job duties; and must check with supervisors (prior to job performance) if there is a question as to the safe procedure to be used for any job function.

8. Adheres to the MHS Code of Conduct and demonstrates ethical behavior as expected by our patients, colleagues and the community. Understands the personal obligation to report any activity that appears to violate applicable laws, rules, regulations or the Code of Conduct itself.

Job Summary and Qualifications

General Statement of Duties:

The Interventional Radiologic technologist performs routine and complex Invasive Vascular and Therapeutic Imaging procedures as requested by a physician and under the direct supervision of a Radiologist or vascular surgeon for the diagnosis and treatment of organ and vascular disease in accordance with established protocols. The technologist must be able to effectively explain the procedure to the patient and be sure they are comfortable and at ease during the exam and provide care to the patients while obtaining diagnostic quality imaging for interpretation.

What you will do in this Role:

1. Performs interventional radiologic procedures (primarily Angiography) under the direction of a physician, utilizing ionizing radiation and other diagnostic methods: Assists the physician as required and responsible for processing all documentation.

2. Demonstrate competency in all diagnostic, standard and neurological Interventional radiology procedures, procedural scrub, room preparation and setup to include power injector.

3. Follows established standards and practices under the direction or a credentialed radiologist and/or vascular surgeon.

4. Competency in assisting with complex Invasive Vascular and Therapeutic Imaging procedures including but not limited to, diagnostic body and neuro angiograms, vascular and carotid stenting, embolization

5. Participate in on-call schedule and for neurological cases must live within 30 minutes of the hospital to meet required response time.

6. Holding pressure and placement of closure devices. Operation of ultrasound machine, Operation and processing of 3D Imaging. Assisting in preparation of embolic material for embolization, various catheters, angioplasty balloons, vascular stents and coils

The Division of Palliative Medicine provides hospital-based consultative care focused on improving quality of life for patients with serious illness. The current interdisciplinary team includes physicians, nurse practitioners, chaplaincy, and psychology support, working closely with specialty services throughout the hospital.

The program maintains strong collaborations with teams such as geriatrics and other medical subspecialties and plays an active role in teaching residents and medical students through clinical supervision and didactic education.

About the Role

As Chief of the Division of Palliative Medicine, you will oversee the clinical, academic, and educational mission of the division while guiding the continued growth of palliative care services across the institution.

Working closely with departmental and health system leadership, the Chief will help shape the strategic vision for palliative care and expand interdisciplinary collaboration to meet the needs of patients and families across the region.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for the Division of Palliative Medicine

  • Oversee the clinical activities of a hospital-based adult consult service

  • Expand and strengthen interdisciplinary palliative care services across the health system

  • Foster collaboration with specialties including geriatrics, oncology, critical care, and other medical and surgical services

  • Support and mentor faculty, nurse practitioners, and interdisciplinary team members

  • Advance the division’s academic mission through medical student and resident education

  • Participate in teaching, supervision, and didactic programs within undergraduate and graduate medical education

  • Guide program development, quality improvement initiatives, and scholarly activity

  • Partner with institutional leadership on operational and financial goals for the program

Qualifications

  • MD/DO degree or equivalent

  • Board certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine (or eligibility)

  • Board certification in a primary specialty such as Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or related field

  • Demonstrated excellence in clinical care, education, and interdisciplinary collaboration

  • Prior leadership, program development, or administrative experience preferred

  • Eligible for academic appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level
