Senior Design Specialist

Compa Industries is searching for qualified candidates for a Senior Design Specialist position supporting engineering and construction projects in Greenville, SC.

Pay: $58–$67/hr

Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years of progressive drafting/design experience related to engineering and construction (nuclear preferred) and an accredited associate degree in a related technical field; non-degreed candidates must present a total experience level consistent with senior design capability.

Applicants without demonstrated experience producing complex engineering design drawings, performing field walkdowns, developing 3D models (S3D preferred), or interpreting multi-discipline engineering data will not be considered. Impact

As a Senior Design Specialist, you will be integral to developing high-quality engineering design drawings that support nuclear, industrial, and EPC project execution. Your work directly influences constructability, safety, field execution efficiency, and the accuracy of engineering deliverables. You will also provide design leadership, mentor junior drafters, and support field engineering teams through technical clarification and design problem resolution.

Responsibilities And Duties

Design & Drafting Execution

• Originate and produce engineering drawings with minimal supervision.
• Perform complete design, layout, and checking of Communications & Security Systems and other discipline drawings.
• Create new drawings, modify existing drawings, develop minor design details, and ensure the technical correctness of designs.
• Conduct design calculations including tray/conduit fill, link loss, space allocation, breaker sizing, and other project-specific needs.

Field & Technical Support

• Perform field walkdowns with minimal guidance to verify existing conditions and inform design updates.
• Provide field support to resolve drawing conflicts, prepare supplemental sketches, and clarify design questions.
• Interpret and check supplier drawings and multi-discipline drawings for design compatibility.

Tools, Systems & Standards

• Utilize MS Word, Excel, Outlook, MicroStation, AutoCAD, and related software at an advanced level.
• Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and local design codes (DOE experience preferred).
• Maintain accurate design records, calculations, and backup documentation.

Leadership & Collaboration

• Support in training and mentoring junior designers and drafters, sharing best practices and improving work processes.
• Function as Lead Designer when required, ensuring drawing quality, schedule adherence, and proper work delegation.
• Assist supervisors with progress reports, manpower forecasts, work plans, and technical problem resolution.

Additional Responsibilities

• Promote DE&I principles across team interactions.
• May be required to travel for business-related needs.

Minimum Qualifications

• U.S. Citizen (mandatory).
• Associate degree in a technical field related to engineering design and a minimum of 10 years of progressive drafting/design experience; nuclear experience preferred.
• Background in drafting/design for disciplines such as electrical, mechanical, structural, civil, communications, fire protection, or architectural.

The Sr. Principal Electrical Integration Engineer will manage and oversee the electrical systems essential for the data center, energy storage systems, and HVAC applications. Furthermore, the position includes leading test process implementation and ensuring equipment alignment to maintain the highest standards of operational excellence and reliability.

What will you do?

Product & System Design :

• Knowledge of high-efficiency power conversion and point-of-load regulation for AI/ML server racks (BBU, rPDU).
• Understanding of rack power zoning, load balancing, and redundancy strategies for tiered compute workloads.
• Ensure electrical systems are properly integrated into fabricated enclosures and structural assemblies.
• Lead the electrical design and integration of UPS systems, power conversion units, and safety interlocks.
• Develop and maintain single-line and three-line diagrams for power distribution systems, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and compliance with NEC, IEEE, and UL standards.
• Design and validate three-phase power systems, including load balancing, fault protection, and redundancy strategies for high-availability environments.
• Engineer and integrate medium-voltage (MV) and high-voltage (HV) power distribution components such as switchgear, transformers, busways, and protective relays.
• Specify and qualify electrical components including circuit breakers, contactors, CTs/PTs, surge protection devices, isolation switches for MV/HV applications and the design and development of wiring harnesses

Factory & Facility Integration :

• Design end-to-end electrical distribution systems from generator and utility interface to AI rack integration zones.
• Coordinate with cross functional teams to ensure electrical infrastructure aligns with facility layout, safety codes, and operational requirements.
• Plan and implement power redundancy, load segmentation, and scalable distribution architectures to support high-density compute environments.
• Ensure proper grounding, EMI shielding, and thermal management across all facility-level electrical systems.

Fabrication & Implementation :

• Define fabrication processes including panel building, cable routing, and system integration, ensuring manufacturability and serviceability.
• Perform electrical load calculations, short-circuit analysis, arc flash studies, and thermal modeling using tools such as ETAP, SKM PowerTools, or EasyPower.
• Lead design reviews, risk assessments, and validation testing to ensure compliance with UL, IEC, NEC, CE, RoHS, and REACH standards.
• Interface with suppliers and customers resolve fabrication and quality issues, and ensure adherence to specifications.
• Support prototype builds, field deployments, and customer engagements to gather feedback and refine designs.

Controls Architecture :

• Develop and implement electrical controls architecture for power and cooling systems, including PLCs, SCADA integration, and remote monitoring capabilities.
• Define control logic, sensor integration, and communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, BACnet, SNMP) for intelligent power and cooling management.
• Collaborate with software and automation teams to ensure seamless integration of control systems with facility and product-level infrastructure.
• Validate control systems through simulation, testing, and commissioning to ensure reliability, safety, and responsiveness.

Leadership & Documentation :

• Develop and maintain engineering documentation including BOMs, test procedures, and engineering change orders (ECOs).
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across cross-functional teams.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction, design for manufacturability (DFM), and product scalability

The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) - Phantom Works organization is seeking a seasoned Low Observables (LO) Design & Integration Engineer to lead design and analysis activities supporting the fabrication and test of an RCS pole model.

Overview 

The Residential Design Leader will oversee and grow Bliffert’s Residential Design Department, ensuring a best-in-class customer experience and operational efficiency.
