This position will report directly to YBI while playing a key role in advancing the Innovation Hub’s mission to accelerate additive and advanced manufacturing technologies for defense, aerospace, and industrial applications. The role bridges applied research, federal program development, regional supply-chain engagement, and the development of shared-use, fee-for-service technical services that support manufacturers across Northeast Ohio and the broader Midwest.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development, Commercialization & Innovation Hub Support
• Identify, pursue, and develop business development opportunities aligned with YBI’s advanced manufacturing strategy and the Youngstown Innovation Hub’s defense and aerospace focus.
• Support commercialization and technology transition efforts that move innovations from TRL/MRL development into pilot and production environments.
• Engage OEMs, tier suppliers, foundries, tooling and mold shops, and additive manufacturing service providers throughout Northeast Ohio and the Midwest.
• Represent YBI in engagements with industry partners, government agencies, academic institutions, and regional economic development organizations.
Shared-Use & Fee-for-Service Program Development
• Lead the design, launch, and expansion of YBI’s internal fee-for-service and shared-use technical services, in coordination with Innovation Hub activities.
• Develop service offerings, engagement models, and pricing strategies for reverse engineering, 3D scanning and metrology, rapid prototyping, additive manufacturing, and mold/tooling design.
• Align service capabilities with regional manufacturing needs, workforce development priorities, and defense supply-chain requirements.

Grant Writing & Federal Program Development

Required Qualifications
• PhD preferred (Master’s degree with significant relevant experience will be considered).

- Creates 3D harness routes considering bend radius, separation, and maintainability and manage technical trade studies.

Overview
Power the data centers, hospitals, and other mission-critical facilities of tomorrow-designing both rugged rental products and stationary generator-set packages that keep them online. As an Engineering Detailer/Drafter you'll work in a unique manufacturing and dealer environment, leveraging AutoCAD and Inventor skills to create and detail drawings for parts, weldments and assemblies.
Basic Duties
- Create clear 2D/3D drawings for skids, bases, enclosures, fuel/cooling/exhaust, and wiring layouts using company CAD standards.
- Turn engineer/customer inputs into buildready fabrication drawings and BOMs.
- Work with Project Management, Engineering, Supply Chain, and the Fab Shop to resolve questions and keep drawings productionready.
- Keep drawing sets current-apply redlines, revisions, and asbuilt updates; maintain files and version control.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience with Inventor and Autocad in a manufacturing environment
- Proficiency with Caterpillar toolsets (CAT ET, CAT Monitoring Software, SIS Web, TMI, EDDC) is highly desirable.
- Working knowledge of diesel- and natural-gas generator sets is preferred, not required.
- Expert-level 2D drafting in AutoCAD; 3D modeling experience required in the last year (Inventor preferred, or comparable platforms accepted)
- Microsoft Office.
- Highly organized, flexible and have the ability to work necessary hours in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Proficient communications, interpersonal and organizational skills.

Summary
The Packaging Engineer will support our production teams by developing precise drawings, layouts, and 3D models for custom products and packaging. This role plays a key part in turning concepts, measurements, and customer requests into designs, prototypes, and real solutions used on the production floor.
Key Activities
- Create and update 2D/3D CAD drawings, layouts, and technical specifications.
- Translate ideas, measurements, and customer requirements into accurate, sustainable designs.
- Assist with prototypes, project cost estimates, and test builds for new products.
- Work with production teams to ensure designs are feasible, efficient, and optimized for manufacturing.
- Maintain drawing files, revision histories, and documentation.
- Support R&D, cost-saving initiatives, and continuous improvement projects.
- Participate in design reviews and collaborate with sales, operations, and quality as needed.
Preferred Skills
- Strong aptitude for numbers and precise measurements.
- Prior packaging or manufacturing experience is preferred.
Educations & Experience
- 1-3 years of experience in packaging or structural design within a manufacturing, corrugated, consumer goods, or packaging industry.
- Experience designing corrugated packaging, folding cartons, displays, or protective packaging.
