Description
In an assigned cell, perform a variety of inspection processes, using various tools and equipment, following standardized methods and established techniques, to verify production process integrity up through and which may include preparation and presentation of parts to customer for Final Inspection or sale. Assist in 1st Article presentations or Production Lot Test initiatives. Accept or reject material based on findings.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Work from applicable written inspection procedures, drawings, and other pertinent instructions to plan and perform dimensional and visual inspection on parts, tools, gages, and other equipment, accepting material or referring for rework or quality review based on findings.
- Use a variety of fixed and variable measuring instruments including computerized machines where program instructions are well defined to check dimensions and recording results. Perform necessary mathematical computations to determine extent of non-conformance and complete appropriate paperwork.
- Follow established procedures to perform in-line checks and verification of dimensions and make sure that operation sheets are being followed.
- Recognize need and arrange for repair or replacement of equipment used in performing work as necessary.
- Support initiatives as directed to reduce MRB and re-work requirements, and assist in the manufacture of quality parts.
- Assist on various internal program audits.
- May assist others at their direction in the investigation of unusual non-conformances, new or changed inspection sequences, and other specialized assignments within the scope and skill level of this job function.
- Support Lean Manufacturing/Continuous Improvement initiatives and function as requested.
- Recommend, and participate in environmental health and safety practices.
- Refer difficulties to higher-level Inspectors, Lead Person, and /or Supervisor.
- Perform routine servicing throughout assigned area following specified procedures, and written instructions, such as operators' checklist, for upkeep and to assure equipment operates properly.

Description
FUNCTION:
In an assigned area or cell, work with limited supervision to perform the assembly of Production aircraft parts as well as the teardown, and assembly of Overhaul & Repair designated aircraft parts.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Performs fitting and assembly operations on various production aircraft parts.
- Performs teardown and assembly of overhaul & repair aircraft parts.
- Cleans and applies special adhesives to materials resulting in a permanent bonding of the materials. Sets up and controls furnace temperature in accordance with established specifications.
- Must be capable of reading and interpreting blueprints, operation sheets, technical specifications and overhaul manuals.

FUNCTION:
In an assigned area or cell, under general supervision perform complex polishing and finishing operations of exacting tolerance on production or overhaul and repair parts. Parts are typically at or near final stages of the manufacturing process, with tight tolerance limits, requiring intense period of concentration for extended periods of time.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Work from drawings, sketches, computer-generated information and verbal instructions to plan the polishing, finishing or re-work operation to be performed.
- Must be capable of following standard finishing applications in order to achieve dimensional integrity and required finish characteristics.
- Must have comprehensive understanding of the material characteristics being worked on in order to determine the appropriate wheel, grit, compound or abrasive texture to use in order to achieve desired finish and dimension.
- Perform precise chamfering operations on parts, without damaging other critical part dimensions

This position builds the operator's skills and knowledge to efficiently perform and maintain the manufacturing processes vertical and horizontal multi-axis turning machines to produce precision aerospace components.
Responsibilities:
- Perform set up and operate vertical and horizontal multi-axis turning machinery as required with supervision.

FUNCTION:
Set up, operate, troubleshoot and perform work on a variety of machinery. Be flexible, willing and capable of being trained on additional machines. Perform work at a consistently high level of quality. Be reliable in consistency of work and willingness to work outside of core area of expertise.

Must be capable & willing to set up operations that have previously been proven out independently without oversight of a leadman or CNC programmer.

Must be capable & willing to identify opportunities for improvement in tooling, cutting methods, mistake proofing & work instruction documentation.

**$2500 SIGN-ON BONUS**
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Set-up and operate Horizontal and Vertical CNC Lathes with Fanuc controls according to engineering specifications, instructions, GD&T and operation sheets. Knowledge of manual machines is a plus.
- Select appropriate cutting tools, fixtures and tool holders for a given job.
- Run similar jobs of short cycle times for extended periods of time where manufacturing processes are stable and do not require frequent change.
- Read and interpret engineering instructions, travelers, and blueprints and be familiar with geometric tolerances and principles.
- Operate more than one machine at a time, one to two machines depending on the nature of the job and its complexity, occasionally operating more than two machines depending on operator skill and familiarity with a given job.
- Must perform routine maintenance on assigned production equipment, i.e., maintain cleanliness of work area and machinery, check machinery fluids and alert maintenance personnel and/or supervisor of malfunctions.
Operate lifting and handling equipment such as hand truck, pallet jack, or overhead hoist to maneuver in-process or finished components to desired location.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Knowledgeable of in-process inspection techniques, standards, and requirements. Able to use and interpret precision measuring devices such as micrometers, verniers, and various hand tools, i.e., gauges to verify the accuracy of dimensional characteristics of components.
- Knowledge of metal characteristics in a production setting is desirable.
- Knowledge of programming code, canned cycles, threading & boring jaws and makes program edits.
- Machinists must have good verbal and written communication skills; good math skills and good interpersonal skills. Must work well with colleagues, supervision and management.
Education & Experience Required:
- 7 - 10 years Vertical or Horizontal CNC Lathe machining experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably aerospace.

What You Will Do:
Our Pratt & Whitney Middletown, CT facility has several exciting opportunities for a Production Machinist available on 1st shift.
1st shift hours are Monday through Friday from approximately 6:30 am to 3:30 pm.
In this role, you will setup and operate one machine tool or process equipment type and operate more than one unrelated machine tool or process equipment types within an assigned area to produce precision turbine engine parts. You will perform work where methods, procedures and processes are well developed and the required tooling, gaging and fixturing are provided.
Under the direction of leader/supervisor, work from verbal and written instructions, operation sheets, drawings and other pertinent information. Following established methods and procedures, use manual or numerically controlled machine tools such as milling, boring, grinding, turning, broaching and shaping machines to achieve the required dimensional specifications. Recognize indications of dull or damaged cutting tools and replace as needed.
Perform bench, assembly and surface finishing operations such as deburring, blending, trimming and fitting, using a variety of hand and power tools. Follow prescribed methods and procedures to perform drilling, riveting and bonding operations to assemble various details in producing a finished part. Operate part-marking equipment.
Use a variety of media, dry or liquid, to perform cleaning or part preparation and finishing operations. Operate tumbling, grit blast, shot peen, buffing and polishing equipment, wash machines and dip tanks for part surface conditioning. Apply masking as required. Perform applications of anti-gall and polymite coatings utilizing dry bake ovens to cure.
Utilize a variety of fixed or variable measuring instruments to check dimensions and part features. Operate OpCert and other computerβbased systems to retrieve and store information and records.
Perform routine servicing throughout assigned area following specified procedures and written instructions, such as operatorsβ checklist, for upkeep and to assure equipment operates properly.
May be required to train for, obtain and maintain licenses, operator permits and certifications within assigned area.

Job Duties:
- Working closely and train with current Shot Peen Forming leads
- Sets up and operates manual shot-peening equipment to shallow form improve stress tolerance of flight vehicle metal surfaces, according to specifications
- Reads interprets blueprints, sketches, work orders and other documentation to define layout of specific areas to be shot-peened, sequence of operations and finish specifications
- Lays out & marks areas to be shot-peened on test specimen or part, using measuring marking instruments, or fits template over part, scribes pattern and peels away masking compound to expose areas to be treated
- Mounts part on jig, rotary table, or on tooling form
- Fills hopper with specific size type shot
- Sets up, operates, and adjusts shot-peening equipment to achieve specified contour on test specimen or part
- Measures and checks test specimen or part to verify conformance to specifications to define required equipment adjustments, using measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures
- Records data on equipment settings and adjustments, like feed rate, nozzle angles and oscillation, number and size of nozzles required, shot size, and air or vacuum pressure settings, to be used for subsequent operation to develop numerical control programming data
- Loads control media, like computer tape, in control console of equipment, or enters commands to retrieve control instructions from computer data base to operate equipment automatically
- Observes operation of equipment to detect malfunctions
- Peels masking material from completed part, and cleans part with solutions to remove adhering scale
Requirements:
- Must be willing and open to learn a new skill and work closely with Lead Formers
- Must be dependable, team-oriented, and good communication skills
- Excellent attendance & positive attitude is required
- 2-5+ year's aircraft manufacturing experience required
- Must have reliable/dependable transportation
- Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints, and general procedures.
- Must be able to interpret and understand OEM specifications
- Ability to learn how to use measuring equipment (e.g. micrometers, calipers, height gages, Isoscope etc.)
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Shot Peen Manual Saturation experience preferred, but not required
- Must be able to read, write, speak English language fluently
