Job Summary
The PA Surgical Specialty - Non-Operative is a licensed, certified, non-physician healthcare provider. They render direct patient care and have delegated prescriptive authority. They are credentialed, privileged, and billed as an independent provider, recognized by Medicare and Medicaid. The Advanced Practice Provider provides medical care based on the scope of practice set by the supervising physician.
Surgical providers care for adult and pediatric patients. They specialize in General Surgery, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Otolaryngology, Cosmetic, Vascular, Trauma, Transplant, Urology, Plastics, or other specialties.
Essential Functions of the Role
- Assesses the physical and mental condition of patients by performing and obtaining comprehensive or problem-focused physical examinations and medical histories.
- Orders, collects, interprets, and evaluates laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs.
- Prescribes or recommends medical drug therapies or other treatments. Performs procedures following approved policies, focusing on efficacy, safety, and cost. Recommends interventions to change behavior linked to health risks.
- Formulates and implements patient treatment plans based on assessments and evidence-based medicine. Collaborates with physicians and team members when needed. Evaluates patient's response to care and its effectiveness.
- Counsels patients and families about medical processes, illness management, medication, nutrition, and health promotion. Counsels patients about drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with food supplements, over-the-counter medications, and herbal remedies.
- Maintains appropriate records detailing the patient's treatment plans and outcomes. Initiates timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope of practice or expertise.
- Provides consultation level services for conditions/problems related to the Provider?s specialty, level of experience and training.
- Manages patients in a healthcare setting(s) other than primary clinic setting (e.g., inpatient, emergency services).
- Performs invasive procedures specific to scope of practice and provider?s level of expertise as delegated by supervising Physician.
- Performs follow-up with patients both pre- and post-operatively. May also round on patients in the hospital or see patients in the Emergency Department.
- May be required to perform patient care duties beyond regular schedule based on coverage needs of the department.

- Knowledge of information and techniques is needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.

We are a well-established, single-specialty ENT group located in Fort Worth, Texas, currently comprised of three board-certified otolaryngologists and four experienced PAs. Our practice also includes on-site audiology and allergy clinic, offering patients comprehensive ENT care in one location.
This is a primarily outpatient position with occasional opportunities to assist in head and neck surgeries.
Position Highlights:
- See your own schedule of 25?30 patients per day in a busy outpatient clinic.
- First assist in head and neck surgery cases approximately once a week, alternating with fellow PAs.
- Phone-only nurse call coverage one week every 5?6 weeks.
- Provide care for both adult and pediatric patients across a wide spectrum of ENT conditions.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Conduct detailed histories and head & neck physical exams.
- Provide acute and chronic care management.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests; develop appropriate treatment plans.
- Provide post-operative care, ensuring continuity and optimal recovery for surgical patients.
- Formulate differential diagnoses and create individualized patient education plans.
- Prescribe and manage medications in accordance with Texas PA regulations.
- Complete timely, thorough documentation in the EHR system.
- Make appropriate referrals to specialists or ancillary services.
- Participate in collaborative patient care with physicians, nurses, and other staff.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and uphold the highest standards of patient confidentiality.
