The Shipboard Effectors Department is currently searching for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer II to work on a multi-discipline team to support the production of Shipboard Effectors products and subsystems located in Huntsville, AL.
This is an onsite role with regular support required in a production missile integration facility.
This position requires strong communication skills to collaborate across Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and Quality. Experience with hardware integration and test, supplier first article inspections, production work instructions and failure investigation principals are strongly desired.
Candidate will work closely with Integrated Product Team Leads/Program Managers to ensure that engineering requirements are defined, risks are managed, and schedules/budgets are met. Candidate will ensure Technical Data Packages are maintained and updated as necessary. Plan/manage the safety program effort within the Program IMS.

Remove barriers impacting team members.

Lead & coordinate System Safety Working Group(s) between key Raytheon and Customer representatives.
Escalate risks to the appropriate level and follow through on corrective actions.
Interpret system requirements, customer specifications and military standards, so as to recommend compliance strategies to program leadership: Chief Engineer, Program Manager, Integrated Product Team Lead, etc.

The Engineer Technologist will be assigned to a project that requires utility pole design mapping. They will be given survey packets of the poles they are mapping. These surveys were collected by the people out in the field. With the survey packets they will know the geographic location of the poles and the different assets (wires, boxes, etc.) attached to each pole. What You'll Be Doing
Job Scope: The Boiler & Turbine Systems Subject Matter Specialist serves as the organization’s top technical authority for industrial steam and power‑generation systems, providing expert guidance on boiler, HRSG, turbine, condenser, and steam‑system design and sizing. This role leads thermal cycle modeling, equipment specification, and system integration for both new installations and major upgrades across industrial and pulp‑and‑paper utility operations. With extensive experience in boiler and turbine projects—and preferably OEM exposure—the specialist ensures robust, efficient, and reliable power‑and‑steam solutions across the facility.
Primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Extensive boiler and turbine projects experience across FEL/FEED through detail design and start‑up support (cogeneration/CHP, new installs, retrofits, and debottlenecking).
- Proven ability to perform and stamp/lead core calculations and deliverables: heat & mass balances, Rankine/Brayton/combined‑cycle analysis, steam/water balances, duty/flow/pressure sizing for boilers, HRSGs (single/multi‑pressure, with/without duct firing), steam turbines (backpressure & condensing), gas turbines integration, and condenser selection/sizing (duty, approach, vacuum, CW options, air‑cooled vs. water‑cooled).
- Steam system design & controls: header configuration and pressure‑level strategy, letdown/PRV stations, desuperheating/attemperation, bypass/relief and PSV sizing, condensate return, DA/feedwater systems, and overall mill steam stability and turndown.
- Creation/review of PFDs/P&IDs, equipment datasheets/specs, control narratives, and commissioning plans; vendor bid technical evaluations and lifecycle cost comparisons.
Ideal Background
Education: B.S. in Mechanical, Chemical, or Power Engineering; P.E. is preferred but not required.
Experience: 20+ years in industrial boiler/HRSG/turbine project engineering for mill utilities, power islands, or CHP.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Codes/standards and typical methods: ASME BPVC Section I, ASME B31.1, HEI condenser standards, API 611/612, API 616, TEMA, NFPA 85, and ISA valve/control practices.

The EH&S Engineer is expected to perform with minimal supervision and successfully interact with all levels of Leidos personnel to facilitate EH&S program and policy implementation.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Performing EH&S surveys and worksite audits to ensure Safety and Environmental compliance.
• Perform risk assessments to ensure regulatory compliance and proactively monitor and document EH&S program implementation.
• Working with leadership to identify, track, and resolve EH&S issues.
• Performing accident investigations.
• Assignment and distribution of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and Safety equipment.
• Coordination of Hazardous Waste Management.
• Maintain environmental permitting, such as air quality permits, stormwater permits, etc.
• Safety Data Sheet (SDS) database management.
• Training of personnel in relation to safety and environmental requirements and controls.
• Perform Job Safety Analysis (JSAs) for hazardous operations.
• Perform research in relation to various safety and environmental subject matter.
• Maintain current knowledge of safety legislation and regulations.
Basic Qualifications:
Position requires a BA/BS degree from an accredited university in a biological, physical, or environmental science related field. In lieu of degree, High School Diploma/GED with a minimum of 5-years experience in a Safety related field is required.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks.
• Candidate must effectively communicate within a team environment.
• Candidate must have computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office.
