Job Description

Oversee all Human Resource functions, including employee relations, recruiting, labor law compliance (EEOC, OSHA, etc.), payroll & benefits, & employee events. Will ensure high-volume staffing, foster a positive, safe, compliant & productive work environment including managing the relationship between employees & management. Will work cross-functional with our Environmental Safety Specialist on safe work environment processes.

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities. Employee may perform other related duties as negotiated to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

• Employee relations: Resolve grievances, conduct investigations, & guide disciplinary actions to maintain a positive, safe & productive workplace.
• Investigate internal complaints regarding discrimination, harassment, and other workplace conflicts. Responds to EEO, OSHA, FMLA and wage and hour complaints.
• Talent Acquisition: Work closely with Director of Personnel on recruitment strategies to attract, hire & retain qualified production, skilled trade, & managerial staff.
• Performance & Development: Oversee Performance appraisals, support training & succession planning to ensure high performance.
• Brunk University: Oversee employee training needs and development, coordinates, curriculum training programs. Utilizes external trainers when necessary.
• HR Administration: Administer compensation, benefits, & payroll, & maintain accurate employee records.
• Policy Enforcement & Advisory: Advising managers on disciplinary actions, performance improvement plans (PIPS), and terminations to ensure consistency & compliance with labor laws.
• Conducting exit interviews to analyze turnover trends.
• Updates periodically the Employee Handbook and other policies to ensure best practices & consistent application of the human resources policy’s throughout the Company.
• Represents the Company in unemployment compensation insurance matters.
• Monitoring & maintaining compliance with federal, state, & local employment laws & regulations.
• Responsible for wage and salary administration, pay grades, and development of pro-forma projections for increases.
• Administers Workers’ Compensation Program.
• Support staff for OSHA inspections with Environmental Safety Specialist.
• Responsible for budget development and expense allocation in Human Resources.

Qualifications

Minimum educational requirements listed below may be substituted by relevant experience, learned competencies and/or certifications obtained throughout one’s career.

• Bachelor's Degree and at least 5 years of experience & 2 years of human resource leadership in Manufacturing.
• Knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines
• Knowledge of best practice principles, process and procedures of the human resources field.
• Knowledge of federal and state employment and benefit laws

About the Position:

• Unloads products from the trailer, transports items into designated customer storage areas.
• Performs damage control checks on items, scans, and contact supervisor about removing orders according to company policy.
• Verifies delivery of items with customer and obtain proper signatures.
• Collects money (cash or checks) where required. Loads customer returns on to trailer and secures trailer doors.
• Ensures that tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and/or always secured.
• Unloads damaged goods and customer returns and bring to the driver check-in and complete necessary paperwork. Unloads all equipment, materials and remove trash from trailers as required.
• Completes daily record of hours of service and enter in log in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
• Performs general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keep trailers clear and clean as required.
• At the end of the shift secure all equipment and complete all necessary paperwork.

The Position

The HR Generalist is a critical role at Great Northern Cabinetry, reporting directly to the Finance Manager. Expectations are that this person:

• Conducts day-to-day HR functions, including employee relations and engagement.
• Oversees bi-weekly payroll administration and benefits management, while building relationships with the employees.
• Assists employees with 401(k) enrollment, contributions and general understanding of the program.
• Creates and implements new hire orientation for employees of all levels.
• Engages with employees throughout the manufacturing floor, and makes him/herself accessible as needed.
• Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, including safety training, anti-harassment training and more.
• Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
• Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate management.
• Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with department supervisors to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
• Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.

The Candidate

Ideally, the selected candidate will have experience in a manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who can work independently and has strong analytical and communication skills, and capable of building relationships across the constituencies noted above. A four-year degree from an accredited college or university is strongly desired.

THE POSITION

Reporting to the company’s Chief Operating Officer (and one of the investor/owners), the Plant Director is responsible for daily safety, quality, production output and equipment maintenance. Of the company’s 85 employees, approximately 55 are direct production workers.

The newly hired Plant Director will work in concert with the Chief Operating Officer to implement and execute a lean focused management system, be able to motivate the hourly team by leveraging his or her soft skills while driving change, accountability, and results. The team has been accepting of the new way of operating but has many skills to learn and old habits to break. Creating a work environment that values experience while implementing a new system and improving our attractiveness to prospective team members is a critical part of the role.

The Plant Director will be part of the executive team and participate in the weekly executive staff meeting. Regarding specific duties, the successful candidate will:

• Develop a culture of safety, quality, delivery and cost throughout the company.
• Execute the lean manufacturing system being implemented to drive daily improvement.

THE CANDIDATE

The successful candidate will be a self-starter who can interface effectively with all levels of the organization, is someone who has strong analytical and communication skills, and has the patience to work with a team that is transitioning from what “was” to what “will be.”

Direct experience with wood products would be beneficial, but at a minimum the successful candidate will have led operations in an engineered product business with medium to high volumes. RESPONSIBILITIES

• Respond to questions regarding product, its applications, use, customization capabilities, etc.
• Edit, analyze and interpret incoming orders covering a wide scope of company products to clarify terminology, completeness of information, missing information, or mis-stated information, pricing, required drawings, etc.
• Input into the order entry computer system all required order information, producing an Order Acknowledgement.
• Coordinate the pricing of special items and drawings as required.
• Verify shipping dates based on information provided by the Scheduling department.
• Check Acknowledgements to the original order. Secure any additional information from the customer and fax the acknowledgement to the customer for their approval.
• Generate shipping labels and all required data for manufacturing. Distribute this information to the proper departments and file the Customer Service department’s copies.
• Resolve problems with the customer or rep. regarding quality control issues, damaged, late or incorrect shipments, pricing issues, etc.
• Always be cheerful, helpful and follow up on all customer needs and inquiries.
• Transcribe information from the order sheets, double check pricing, obtain totals, discounts, freight charges, etc.
• Prepare invoices and distribute to the customer and sales rep, filing the company copy with the Acknowledgement and all other associated documents.
