- Friday 7am-5pm Summary: Ensures complete and accurate data collection and maintenance for all patients diagnosed with and/or treated for cancer within the institution.
Follows policies and procedures set by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, NY State Department of Health Cancer Registry, and Hospital Cancer Committee.
Requires a background in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, data analysis, collection, and reporting.
Responsibilities: Utilizes the disease index, radiology, pathology/cytology reports, and oncology consults/therapy summaries to identify all patients for database accessioning.
Obtains core information from the patient’s medical record as required by ACoS/CoC and NYSDOH-CR for proper accessioning.
Identifies and follows all living newly diagnosed cancer patients at least once every 12 months.
Maintains confidentiality and security of patient data in the tumor registry database.
Assists in assembling and disseminating data collected by the tumor registry and prepares reports as requested by the Tumor Registry Manager.
Coordinates all phases of weekly Cancer Conference presentations, including scheduling, publicity, and tracking conference activities.
Maintains Cancer Conference and CME documentation.
Utilizes New York State Department of Health- Cancer Registry Reporting Guidelines.
Demonstrates thorough knowledge of the METRIQ software program related to job functions.
Operates hospital computer software related to job functions.
Supports the Tumor Registry Manager and Cancer Committee individuals in coordinating activities and assisting in quarterly meeting preparation.
Assists before and after the ACoS/CoC survey with necessary preparation.
Participates in the department’s performance improvement activities.
Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent with a strong biological science background.
Must complete in-house orientation program.
Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) credential is required.
Required Skills: Proficiency in English (speaking, reading, writing).
Two or more years of experience in the registry field and familiarity with ACoS/CoC requirements for hospital-based cancer programs and New York State Dept.
of Health Cancer Registry guidelines preferred.
Computer proficiency and competency in multiple registry software programs, including METRIQ.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
