Our state-of-the-art facilities serve as the major referral center for cancer, cardiovascular disease, neuroscience, orthopedics, surgery, emergency medicine, behavioral health medicine, and is a major teaching hospital.
Our Hospitalist team who specializes in caring for patients during their stay in the hospital. The hospitalist?s primary focus is providing medical care to a patient from the time of admission until the patient leaves the hospital. We review a new patient?s past medical records, notifies the primary care physician, and performs a comprehensive history and physical examination when a patient is admitted. We coordinate medical care while patients are admitted and is available to spend time with the patient and their family to discuss the patient?s care. We also work with nurses, case managers, and other physicians to design and coordinate an individual treatment plan for each patient.
We are fortunate to have many highly qualified Hospitalists and support staff, which means patients may have more than one Hospitalist and support staff to manage their care during their stay.
About Us
Hospitalists and support staff at The Queen?s Medical Center provide a high level of care to all patients, to help you heal faster. They monitor patient?s daily care to ensure that coordinated efforts during their stay get and get them back to an optimal level of health. As patients improve and daily medical care is no longer required, studies show that patients can often make a better recovery at home. When it is determined that the patient is ready to be discharged, the patient?s primary care physician will be updated on the progress and discharge plan.
I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides high-quality, coordinated, comprehensive, team-based, and patient-centered care for patients of The Queen?s Health System?s (QHS) hospitals and clinics, and other hospitals and clinics, as applicable, in the area of Orthopedic Surgery ? Spine
- Responsible for diagnosing and prescribing a course of treatment, surgery, and therapy for patients with disorders, malformations, diseases and/or injuries to the musculoskeletal system, with a focus and/or interest in orthopedic spine conditions.
- Engages engage in academic medical/clinical education, training, supervision, evaluation, and research.
- Works cooperatively within collaborative practice models.
- Supports the vision and values to enhance the provision of quality health care and optimize the health status of QHS patients, and supports The Queen?s Medical Center?s (QMC) mission to fulfill the intent of Queen Emma and King Kamehameha IV to provide in perpetuity quality health care services to improve the well-being of Native Hawaiians and all of the people of Hawai`i.
II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking.
- Constant: sitting, static gripping of an object for prolonged periods.
- Frequent: walking.
- Occasional: standing, stooping/bending, climbing stairs, walking on uneven ground, lifting and carrying usual weight of 1 pound up to 5 pounds, reaching above, at, and below shoulder level, frequent gripping of an object.
III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
- Exposure to hazardous chemicals and infectious agents is an occupational risk; therefore, standard safety regulations must be maintained to avoid contamination.
IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
- Current Hawaii State license as an APRN or Physician Assistant in good standing
- If licensed as an APRN, specialty board certification aligned with area of assignment is required.
- Depending on area of assignment, prescriptive authority for non-controlled and controlled substances may be required.
- Depending on area of assignment, additional certification(s) may be required.
- Credentialing and privileging required if providing medical level of care.
- Current BLS certification.
B. EXPERIENCE:
- If licensed as an APRN, two (2) years nursing experience or successful completion of an APRN Fellowship Program for any APRN position.
- One (1) year of clinical experience working as an APRN or Physician Assistant preferred.
Additional Requirements
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
Current board certification in one (1) of the following:
- Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP)
- Adult Geriatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP)
- Prescriptive authority for non-controlled and controlled substances.
- Current ACLS certification.
