Responsibilities
The Project Engineer assists the Project Manager and entire project team within the assigned scope of responsibility to obtain, evaluate, coordinate and distribute the information and authorizations required to construct the project on time, within budget and to the quality specified. The Project Engineer reports to the Project Manager.
Duties of the Project Engineer include:
• Maintain knowledge of all general contract and subcontract documents as well as the job estimate, and to see that all drawings and specifications properly relate to the estimate.
• Work within established procedures with owner, architect and engineers for obtaining information, approvals, and processing of shop drawings. Examine all drawings for suspected design deficiencies, impractical details, code violations, etc. and bring them to the attention of the Project Manager. Distribute information required for construction.
• Help prepare and distribute drawings, shop drawings, process schedules, etc.
• Schedule, expedite, examine, coordinate and obtain approval for shop drawings, samples, material lists, etc.
• Ensure that materials and equipment are released for fabrication or manufactured in time to meet construction schedule.
• Receive and distribute information on changes in the work, prepare an independent estimate for all parts of the work. Obtain and check estimates for the changes from subcontractors.
• Help prepare requisitions for subcontracts. Obtain adequate information for purchasing and otherwise assist the Project Manager and entire team by clearing questions for bidders, reviewing the bid analyses, and obtaining approvals of awards.
• To work with the Superintendent in obtaining the necessary permits required for the building construction. Verify that subcontractors obtain their required permits.
• Assist in processing regular reports required for the project, the Owner, and associated Agencies.
• Assist in record keeping, reporting, submissions and filing of required documents and Barr and Barr corporate procedures and protocols.
• Tracking of information and documents and follow up with contractors and vendors.
