The CRNA will use high patient acuity allowing the new and/or experienced CRNA to fully implement their clinical skills and education, and continue to expand within any area of expertise that may be desired.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Examine patients history for allergies or illnesses that would affect anesthesia.

Evaluate and prepare patients, provide education about surgeries/procedures and recovery, and discuss possible side effects.

Determine appropriate amount, type, and method of anesthesia administration.

Perform anesthetics; administer medication to patients for pain relief.

• Rex Psychiatry runs a busy and growing inpatient consult service at UNC Rex Healthcare, an award-winning, private, not-for-profit, ~500-bed member of the UNC Health system, with its flagship UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh, and recently opened a suburban satellite hospital in nearby Holly Springs. 

• The service is primarily staffed on weekdays by a core group of hospital-employed psychiatrists, with contractors helping to supplement coverage during staff time off, weekends, holidays, etc. 

• Our diverse team of experienced psychiatrists provides both emergency and consult-liaison psychiatry services for ED and admitted patients 8 hours a day, 7 days a week. The consult service interfaces closely with key provider groups (ED, hospitalist, intensivist, subspecialty services, and others) and is supported by case management and behavioral health staff who assist with inpatient psychiatric referrals, aftercare, patient/family education, and policy development and implementation. 

• Patients are seen throughout the hospital, including the floors, ICUs, ED, and behavioral health observation unit—a specialized 8-bed, locked wing of the ED with private rooms, open common area, natural light from large windows, and dedicated nursing staff.

The North Carolina Neuroscience & Spine Center provides specialized care for individuals with  spine-related conditions and back pain , tailoring treatment solutions to suit each patient's unique needs. Our pain management physicians work as integral members of our  multidisciplinary spine care team , utilizing interventional procedures and conservative treatments to address  chronic back pain, radiculopathy, spinal stenosis, and other spine-related pain conditions .

 

While our primary focus is spine and back pain management, our pain physicians also treat a full spectrum of pain-related conditions affecting other body regions. We are committed to exploring all available treatment modalities, collaborating closely with neurosurgeons, physical therapists, and other specialists to devise comprehensive, patient-centered care strategies that deliver optimal outcomes and improve quality of life.

The position is mostly outpatient but does have some inpatient consults. Inpatient consults average around 5-7 per week.

Job Responsibilities 

• Discuss medical history with patients to acquire knowledge of healthcare practices. 

• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to diagnose pain conditions. 

• Create and discuss a pain management treatment plan with patients. 

• Treat patients by employing interventional techniques such as injections and/or other devices. 

• Prescribe medications, if applicable. 

• Refer patients for laboratory and diagnostic tests. Assess medical results. 

• Educate patients on pain management and lifestyle changes. 

• Communicate pertinent medical records to appropriate specialists as needed. 

Required Skills and Qualifications 

• Strong knowledge of pain mechanisms and pharmacology. 

• Proficient in interventional pain procedures, joint injections, nerve blocks, and epidural injections. 

• Working knowledge of medical equipment such as C-Arm. 

• Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
