As a Senior Legal Counsel on NiCE’s Americas Legal team, you will support high‑value commercial and technology transactions that are central to NiCE’s customer experience business. The Center for Family Representation Inc. (CFR) is an award-winning, innovative law and policy organization that serves primarily Black and Brown families and youth in Manhattan, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island with an interdisciplinary legal defense model that serves more than 2400 clients every year. CFR was originally founded in 2002 to dramatically change the trajectory of indigent parents being prosecuted by the City’s Administration for Children’s Services (ACS). Our goal is to defend and protect our clients’ rights, reduce the harm of family separation and prevent or minimize the time any child spends in the foster system.

CFR provides interdisciplinary family defense with a model that was unique at our founding and that is now being replicated nationally: we assign every client an attorney and a social work staff member, and teams have the support of parent advocates, who are parents with direct personal experience of having been investigated and prosecuted by ACS. CFR was the first agency in the country to integrate parents with lived experience into legal teams and now has 11 parent advocates working in all four of our family defense locations. CFR’s Early Defense Practice represents parents during an ACS investigation (to avoid court involvement where possible). Our SCR Practice assists parents in clearing their names from state maltreatment records.

As an agency committed to securing justice for families, we built the Youth Defense Practice (YDP) to defend youth at risk of family separation through incarceration. YDP uses the same interdisciplinary model to represent youth being prosecuted in Manhattan, the Bronx and Queens in Juvenile Delinquency and Persons In Need of Supervision (PINS) proceedings in Family Court. CFR’s Home for Good program provides legal and social work services to CFR clients in immigration, civil legal services and criminal defense matters, to afford clients an efficient and well-coordinated one-stop solution to a range of issues that threaten family stability.

Recognized as experts in our fields, we annually train over 500 practitioners in the city, state and around the country on strategies to promote family preservation and interdisciplinary representation, and we provide community based “Know Your Rights” presentations to parents, youth and service providers. Under the supervision and guidance of CFR’s Youth Defense Supervisors, the Staff Attorney’s core responsibilities will be to represent clients charged on juvenile delinquency (JD) matters and PINS petitions in Family Court .


The candidate will receive training on youth and family defense.


The candidate will work collaboratively with legal teams, composed of attorneys, social work staff, investigators, and paralegals (clients’ legal teams may also involve staff from CFR’s immigration or housing/public benefits units).


The position will be based out of the Manhattan family court.


The candidate should also expect to maintain new and evolving youth defense data in Case Management System and client legal notes; keep files up to date; keep additional data related to deliverables for private funders supporting the Youth Defense Practice, and/or to meet with prospective and current funders; and help to inform and grow CFR’s Youth Defense Practice. This person may also participate in community based outreach and presentations for families whose youth are impacted by or are at risk of juvenile justice involvement.

We are seeking a savvy and dynamic Research Analyst - Corporate, to join our highly collaborative Research & Knowledge Management team. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide high-quality, customized corporate, transactional, and business research services to attorneys, legal assistants, and the Business Development team in support of client matters and firm initiatives.
  • Conduct in-depth SEC filings, securities laws, and corporate precedent research to support sophisticated transactional and business matters.
  • Serve as the research liaison for the M&A practice group, including Healthcare M&A, Insurance, and other practice areas as designated by the Research Manager.
  • Apply strong analytical judgment to identify, evaluate, and synthesize information, delivering accurate and timely research tailored to attorney and client needs.
  • Manage multiple assignments simultaneously, using effective planning and project management skills to meet demanding deadlines while operating within established budgetary parameters.
  • Produce and disseminate curated current-awareness and competitive intelligence to support the information needs of the Firm’s corporate practice groups.
  • Maintain and enhance practice-specific intranet research pages, ensuring content is current, relevant, and accessible.
  • Assist with general research tasks and projects as required.
  • Assist with onboarding and research orientation sessions for new associates and Summer Programs.
  • Participate in additional research projects and provide support to the department as required.


Requirements:

  • Demonstrated expertise in corporate, transactional, and business research methodologies.
  • Possesses a strong knowledge of transactional precedent research and SEC filings.
  • Proficiency with a wide array of research databases and tools, including: Intelligize, Bloomberg Terminal, CIQ, Preqin, Factset, Refinitiv, PitchBook, Deal Point Data, Lexis+, Westlaw, VitalLaw, Practical Law, among others.
  • Utilizes appropriate fee based and non-metered resources to provide excellent practice support in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Strong attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and a collaborative, client-service-oriented approach.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing to a team-oriented culture.

  • Minimum of 5 years of corporate/Transactional research experience at an AmLaw 50 firm or equivalent legal environment


Preferred Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • JD from an accredited law school
  • Admitted to practice in the State of New York, or passage of the New York State Bar Examination and awaiting admission in New York State
  • One year of litigation experience with a preference for prior experience in medical malpractice and/or personal injury claims venued in NY Supreme Courts is preferred, but this position is also open to newly admitted attorneys (or those who have passed the bar, submitted their application and are awaiting admission in New York) who have a strong desire to practice in the Medical Malpractice Defense field.

  • Claim investigation with clients and non-parties to efficiently address important discovery matters

  • Conducting and defending depositions of parties and non-parties
  • Understanding and applying CPLR discovery rules, to oversee, evaluate and enforce external and internal party compliance
