RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead litigation strategy on assigned cases from intake through trial or resolution.
• Draft and argue pleadings, motions, and complex legal briefs.
• Manage discovery, including written discovery, document review, and depositions.
• Take and defend depositions of parties, witnesses, and experts.
• Appear in court for hearings, case management conferences, and motion arguments.
• Lead mediation strategy and negotiate settlements.
• Prepare cases for trial, including working with experts, exhibits, and trial preparation.
• Provide strategic counseling and guidance to clients throughout the litigation process.
• Supervise and mentor associate attorneys and support staff.
• Maintain organized case files and ensure deadlines and litigation milestones are met.
• Collaborate with firm leadership to evaluate new cases and develop litigation strategies.
• Exhibit exceptional written and oral advocacy skills.
• Utilize case management systems to ensure accurate documentation, calendaring, and compliance with firm procedures and legal requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Active California Bar license (Required).
• 4+ years of litigation experience, preferably in employment law, personal injury, or complex plaintiff-side litigation.
• Demonstrated experience managing cases through litigation, including depositions and court appearances.
• Trial experience or meaningful trial preparation experience strongly preferred.
• Excellent legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
• Strong case management and organizational abilities.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with a litigation team.
• Entrepreneurial mindset and desire to build and grow a successful plaintiff-side practice.
• Bilingual Spanish is a strong plus.
• In-person position in San Diego.

COMPENSATION + BENEFITS

• Compensation is structured to provide guaranteed yearly compensation of at least $250,000 (minimum) between base salary and a generous fee split on cases you manage with uncapped earning potential.
• 10% of all fees generated on cases assigned by the firm.
• 25%-50% of all fees generated on cases personally brought to the firm (depending on years of experience).

About the Role

Qualifications

• Experience working with overseas suppliers.
• Proficiency in relevant design tools such as SolidWorks, Rhino, AutoCAD, or Adobe Creative Suite.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Optical experience is helpful but not required.

Role Overview

The Trust & Probate Paralegal will support the attorney in all aspects of probate and trust administrations and litigation surrounding probate, trust and estates. Probate Administration:

• Direct communication with clients to collect information necessary to including in filings

• Draft, review, summarize and proofread pleadings, correspondence, fiduciary reports, and petitions.
• Discovery – Draft discovery including special interrogatories, request for admissions, request for production, subpoenas, deposition notices.

Court Appearances & Depositions:

• Attend depositions and trials as needed.
• Provide litigation support, including assistance with discovery and trial preparation.

Client & Beneficiary Relations:

• Client maintenance - Maintain regular contact, prepare for meetings, and provide timely case updates.

Collaboration & Administration:

Key Qualifications & Core Competencies

• Minimum of 5 Years of Trust & Probate Litigation Paralegal Experience:
• Significant hands-on experience in trust administration, probate, and litigated probate matters within a law firm setting.
• Focused on civil/commercial litigation.
• Solid experience in trial preparation, including organizing exhibits, preparing witness lists, coordinating with experts, and managing pre-trial deadlines.
• Hands-on experience supporting attorneys through mediation and mandatory settlement conferences.
• While 95% of cases typically settle during mediation or settlement conferences, candidates must have participated in at least a few full trial preparations to understand the scope and demands of litigation.
• Strong organizational and case management skills, with the ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.

Work Arrangement
