Essential Job Summary::The Level B Fleet Mechanic/Technician is a journeyman-level role responsible for independent diagnosis and repair of most mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on refuse trucks, heavy trucks/tractors, trailers, and heavy equipment. This role also mentors Level C technicians, supports road calls, and ensures high uptime and DOT compliance for the fleet.
Essential Job Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.:Diagnostics & Repair
- Independently diagnose and repair:
- Diesel and gasoline engines (intake, fuel, cooling, aftertreatment/emissions components).
- Drivetrain components including clutches, transmissions, differentials, PTOs, and drive lines.
- Air and hydraulic brake systems, ABS, and suspension components.
- Hydraulic systems on refuse equipment (packer bodies, arms, cylinders, pumps, valves, and hose routing).
- Electrical systems including starting/charging, multiplex wiring, sensors, and lighting.
Preventive Maintenance & Compliance
- Perform and sign off on DOT-compliant inspections and PMs, ensuring all safety-critical items are addressed and documented.
- Accurately interpret and close out DVIR/eDVIR defects; communicate recurring defects to leadership for root-cause analysis.
- Use OEM and aftermarket diagnostic software, service bulletins, and wiring schematics to troubleshoot complex issues.
Road Calls & Operational Support
- Respond to road calls and breakdowns throughout the NYC tri-state area; perform safe temporary or permanent repairs to return vehicles to service or coordinate towing as needed.
- Communicate clearly with dispatch, supervisors, and drivers on repair status and estimated completion times.
Mentorship, Training & Documentation
- Guide and mentor Level C technicians on best practices, safety, troubleshooting, and proper repair methods.
- Complete work orders thoroughly, capturing complaint, cause, correction, labor hours, and parts used.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives for PM compliance, repeat repair reduction, and parts standardization.
- Independently diagnose and repair:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 3–5+ years hands-on experience as a diesel, truck, or heavy equipment mechanic/technician, including diagnostics and major component replacement.
- Valid CDL Class B (or higher) with air brake endorsement strongly preferred to perform road tests and move equipment on public roads within NY/NJ/CT.
- Demonstrated proficiency with hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret OEM service manuals, wiring diagrams, and hydraulic schematics.
- Experience in refuse/solid waste, municipal, or LTL/heavy trucking fleet operating in urban environments preferred.
- ASE certifications in Medium/Heavy Truck (T series) or Truck Equipment (E series); working toward Master status preferred.
- Basic welding and cutting skills (MIG, stick, torch) for brackets, hangers, and minor body fabrication preferred.
- Familiarity with computerized fleet maintenance and parts inventory systems preferred.

Essential Job Summary::
Our Yellow Iron Diesel Mechanics perform inspection, diagnosis, preventative maintenance, and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment, primarily including yellow iron machinery, diesel heavy trucks and engines. The Technician or Mechanic is not only responsible for understanding maintenance and breakdown needs and initiating/ assigning necessary repairs, but also must be able to operate the machinery being repaired. At times, the Technician may be on call and required to assist with emergency breakdowns.

- Estimates time and material cost on vehicle repairs and requisition of new parts.
- Conduct safety checks on vehicles.
- Completes required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting part usage, and accounting for repair time.
- Reviews, completes, or assigns repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
- Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Company safety protocols and OSHA standards.
- This position will have no direct reports, however they will work in collaboration with the other yellow iron diesel mechanic on staff, although on different shifts.
- Assists Sr. Technicians in the completion of project work.
Work Environment
- Potentially hazardous work environment with many moving parts and machinery; must be alert of surroundings at all times.
- Only during breakdowns will this position be required to enter transfer station loading/ dumping area.
- The Yellow Iron Diesel Technician/Mechanic may be required to lift up to 50 pounds. Frequent squatting and standing is required.
Requirements
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
- A valid driver’s license is required. CDL a plus.
- At least 5 years of experience in job duties.
- Sanitation or construction industry experience a plus.
- Computer diagnostic experience as diesel technician a plus.
- Experience with troubleshooting/repairing DPF systems diagnostic software such as Premium Tech Tool (Mack), Allison transmission, Cummins, CAT, Peterbilt, and Paccar.

- Advanced hydraulics for refuse bodies, auto-load arms, high-pressure systems, and heavy truck power take-offs.
- Plan and execute major component work including major engine reparis, transmission and differential R&R, frame-off repairs, and complex hydraulic rebuilds.
Technical Leadership & Training
- Serve as the go-to technical resource for Level B and Level C technicians; provide on-the-job training, coaching, and quality checks.
- Assist in training on:
- Diagnostic software and tools.
- New equipment technology, safety systems, and telematics.
- Company maintenance standards, PM strategies, and repair procedures.
Fleet Reliability, Compliance & Continuous Improvement
- Analyze repeat repairs, failure trends, and PM findings; recommend changes to PM intervals, inspection checklists, or parts specifications.
- Ensure all work complies with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, BIC, DEP and environmental regulations, as well as state/local requirements in NY, NYC, NJ, and CT.
- Perform and sign off on the most critical inspections (e.g., PDI, PM and Annual inspections, accident damage assessments, major repair QC).
Operational & Customer Support
- Support complex road calls and on-site repairs on the road, at transfer stations, MRFs, or customer locations throughout the NYC tri-state area.
- Partner with Operations and Dispatch to minimize downtime, sequence repairs effectively, and prioritize critical units i.e. NYC dense-route refuse units, specialized collection assets.
- Provide clear feedback to leadership on equipment condition, replacement candidates, and chronic issues affecting uptime or safety.
Administrative & Leadership Duties (as assigned)
- Help plan daily shop workload and allocate jobs according to technician skill level.
- Assist in specifying parts, evaluating vendor options, and supporting warranty recovery efforts.
- Support audits, safety inspections, and external regulatory reviews as the technical representative for the shop.
- High school diploma or GED required; additional technical training strongly preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of proven hands-on experience as a diesel mechanic as a diesel/heavy-equipment mechanic/technician, including advanced diagnostics and major component overhaul.
- CDL Class B or A with air brake endorsement required or strongly preferred due to frequent road tests and movement of collection vehicles on public roads.
- Demonstrated expert-level knowledge of:
- Heavy truck and refuse systems.
- Refuse hydraulic, electrical, and powertrain systems.
- Diagnostic software, scan tools, and OEM service information.
- Proven track record of performing complex diagnostics and repairs independently.
- Must provide own professional-grade tools required for diagnostic and repair work.
- ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician or equivalent combination of ASE certifications (T series) and/or OEM advanced certifications preferred.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license is required.
- Experience in a lead or senior technician role in a refuse, municipal, or large private fleet environment preferred.
- Experience with CNG/LNG, hybrid, or EV drivetrains for heavy vehicles preferred.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to coach, influence, and drive standards across multiple shifts or locations preferred.

Assist and support the current Assembly team with electrical assembly projects, while learning and gaining experience in electrical machine design, machine testing, and/or machine controls. This position is one that understands how to read electrical schematics and can assist in properly building panels, routing, and terminating wires for complete machines. The ability to operate manual and powered hand tools, such as drills, grinders, and sanders is desired. This position is under the supervision of the Assembly Team and Electrical Engineers.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Responsible for assisting higher-level Assemblers and Engineers in electrical panel builds.
· Read and understand assembly drawings, electrical schematics, and assembly instructions.
· Follow standard assembly procedures and adhere to pre-determined best assembly practices.
· Hand drill, ream, and tap holes for wire hold downs as needed.
· Layout and build electrical panels working off drawings and schematics.
· Properly label all wires according to electrical prints and schematics, and verbal instructions.
· Route and terminate wires according to electrical prints and schematics and verbal instructions.
· Work with engineers in the testing of electrical panels and machines.
· Work with a cooperative team when necessary.
· Ability to follow instructions without constant supervision.

BHE GT&S has an exciting opportunity as an Instrument & Control Technician/Sr. Instrument & Control Technician supporting our North Summit Station in Hopwood, PA.
RESPONSIBILITIES
This role installs maintains and troubleshoots instrumentation control circuits and equipment related to natural gas processes such as the compression, dehydration, measurement, transmission and storage of natural gas.
- Installation includes mounting wiring connecting testing configuring and programming instruments and devices.
- Maintenance includes routine calibration and functional testing of process instruments and devices documentation of calibration data collected during inspections utilizing the instrument inspection monitoring system verification of data communication systems that provide real time process and alarm information to the facility control center.
- Troubleshooting includes the utilization of equipment such as a laptop computer multi-meter instrument/device communicator device software documenting process calibrator etc.
- Develops and maintains interactive work relationships to accurately and effectively complete job responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Instrument & Control Technician :
- Two-year or higher degree in electronics engineering or related field AND a minimum of one year direct, hands-on experience with instrumentation, PLCs, and Computer Systems OR
- A minimum of four years direct hands-on experience with Instrumentation, PLC's, RTUs and computer systems.
Required : Must acquire ISA Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST) Level 1 certification within one year of ISA eligibility, not to exceed 15 months.

The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive bids for heavy highway and infrastructure projects where the company serves as the General/Prime Contractor. This role requires a strong construction background, attention to detail, and the ability to analyze project data to develop cost-effective, compliant, and winning proposals. The Estimator will work closely with project managers, engineers, field staff, subcontractors, and senior leadership to position the company for success in both state and federal markets. Success in this role requires a competitive mindset with a drive to "win the work," balancing attention to detail with an aggressive approach to bidding.
Key Responsibilities:
- Pre-Bid Administration
- Monitor and track advertised projects; assemble and maintain bid folders.
- Coordinate bonding, insurance, and railroad protection requirements.
- Attend and document pre-bid meetings and site visits to assess project risks and opportunities.
- Estimating & Takeoffs
- Analyze plans, specifications, and contract documents to understand scope, risks, and cost drivers.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs, preparing labor, equipment, material, and unit-price estimates to develop pricing strategies that balance competitiveness with profitability.
- Incorporate constructability, resources, productivity, and scheduling considerations to ensure estimates are accurate and executable.

- Assemble and submit complete bid packages using estimating systems (HCSS HeavyBid/HeavyJob and related tools).
- Track and incorporate addenda, clarifications, and revisions into estimates.
- Support post-bid activities including cost-code setup, agency reporting, and documentation.

Requirements:
- 3+ years of practical construction experience in estimating, field operations, or project management; heavy highway and PennDOT experience. A degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field is a plus but not required.
- Demonstrated estimating ability with strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret cost history, productivity data, and bid tab analyses to support accurate, competitive pricing.
- Proficiency in HCSS HeavyBid, HeavyJob, and Microsoft Office Suite, or the ability to quickly learn these systems.
