Job Summary:

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager will provide key support in actively improving and driving processes and productivity. This position will support production, as well as improve and support current manufacturing, documentation, and processes metrics. It will also contribute to the improvement of existing processes and collaborate with product design teams to achieve design for manufacturability.

Responsibilities:

• Support new business opportunities by compiling detailed cost estimates that outline the manufacturing plan for that product (including process flow, equipment, hours, etc.)
• Support design for manufacturing optimization on new product development and phase gate KPI.
• Estimate manufacturing cost, determine time standards, and make recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new or existing product lines.
• Compile a detailed timeline for all manufacturing launch activities, such as facilities, people, materials, processes, training, validation, etc., needed to support the start of production.
• Responsible for all tooling and technical engineering support to implement new products and processes into production. Selects and creates SOW, Capex, designs, installs, and modifies equipment and fixtures for new product launches and existing products.
• Leads process design functions to determine product flow through the manufacturing cell by use of current engineering and continuous improvement techniques. Establishes resource requirements and material flow using industrial engineering techniques and internal Company standards to establish optimum cell configuration (creation of the most efficient manufacturing cell from material inflow, through production, to outflow).
• Analyzes various product structures and processes in order to eliminate inefficiencies and reduce manufacturing costs. Performs DOE analysis to determine optimum operating parameters by manipulating variables and analyzing how they interact to achieve the most efficient cell, measured in terms of processing time, quality, and cost.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 7 years of Mechanical, Industrial engineering experience, master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of 4 years design experience (Pro-E, AutoCAD, SolidWorks- preferably in tooling, fixture, and equipment design, including plant layout) preferred
• Experience in NPI, Automation & Analytics, ERP/MES, Bill of Process, Welding, and Error Proofing.
• Knowledgeable in high and low volume manufacturing (APQP, prototyping, GD&T, OEE, equipment and supplier selection, DFM, 8D, process capability, CAD, and PLM systems).

Divisional Plant Engineer Job Duties & Primary Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on technical leadership to multiple plant locations driving improvements in reliability, process control, and other pertinent KPI’s.
• Create necessary CAD drawings for equipment layout, process control, fabrication and assembly of components.
• Familiar with pneumatic, hydraulic, steam, and boiler systems and controls.

• Works with maintenance departments to develop proactive maintenance procedures and programs for the facilities and process equipment.
• Travel 25% to the other two locations (Sylacauga, Alabama & Franklin, Ohio). Expected travel requirement is minimum of 30%, potentially higher during project implementations.

Divisional Plant Engineer Additional Required Skills & Qualifications: (include computer, language, mathematical, and analytical skills required)

• Advanced analytical skills and creativity in solving problems and troubleshooting.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal and presentation), with the ability to effectively work with various levels in a team environment

Divisional Plant Engineer Supervisory Responsibilities

• This position has no direct internal supervisory responsibilities.
• Supervises and directs outside contractors during the construction and commissioning phases of capital projects.

Divisional Plant Engineer Education: (include Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations required)

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or similar technical discipline.
• Minimum of ten (10) years’ hands-on work experience in a manufacturing environment with a proven track record of measurable results.

• Experience in building materials or paper manufacturing is preferred.

• Knowledge of pipe fabrication methods, materials, and project specifications
• Familiarity with process piping unit rates and estimating references such as ’73 Price Book or Page & Nations

Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to)

• Abide by and enforce all plant safety/health/environmental policies, and promote safety improvements
• Conduct incident investigations on near misses, incidents, and accidents
• Assist in the execution of the corporate and plant safety programs including incident investigations, PHAs
• Perform safe behavior observations and enforce safety policies
• Review "Management of Change" for area of responsibility and ensure process / equipment changes are conducted in a safe and environmentally responsible manner
• Serve as a model for working safely in the plant
• Assume a large role in planning TA items which relate to technical assistance given
• Approve requisitioned parts and service
• Manage missed days and vacation to a satisfactory level which supports the needs of the plants
• Perform environmental compliance evaluations as part of projects and assignments
• Perform or attend meetings as needed
• Build a good working relationship with co-workers and build plant equipment and process understanding
• Support safety initiatives and participate in safety program
• Perform investigation with plant personnel and learn the process related to each effort then provide technical data and specs to support the improvement
• Assist in cost estimations; however, PM or manager is responsible for choice of costing method. T&M, fixed cost, T&M not to exceed or other methods are typical
• Review/communicate as a team to plant employees what problem we are aware of and what is proposed for a solution. This will occur as part of a team of maintenance and operation persons responsible for the improvement
• Communicate any details developed through emails, whiteboards, meetings, etc. Improvement Execution
• Assist in writing requisitions if no work order is needed and the technical drawings or specs need to be attached to the PO
• Assist in managing timeline of implementation and commissioning on efforts which have this need
• Utilize plant labor for assistance when appropriate, and communicate with manager of cost center
• Actively participate in team meetings and discussions about progress. Completion Responsibilities
• Package technical data to the document control role for filing
• Submit spare parts needs to Storeroom and Equipment Master
• Review LOTO updates, hazard assessments, MOCs and JSPs as needed upon completion
• Become a resource for after-hour calls on related issues or questions
• Assist in setting up or delivering training for efforts which it is required
   

Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree or equivalent certification from four-year college or university is required (Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or applicable work experience)
• 0-2 years of Maintenance or Project engineering/management experience is required
• Experience with manufacturing projects is preferred
