The Work You’ll Be Doing

In this role, you will:

Role Summary

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop, release, and maintain detailed technical work instructions for the manufacture and repair of aerospace metallic structures and assemblies, ensuring full compliance with customer(s) engineering definition and regulatory requirements.

• Partner with CNC Programming group to develop and implement manufacturing plan for complex metallic machined components/assemblies.

• Provide advanced technical support to Quality and Operations teams to achieve site-level Safety, Cost, Quality, and Delivery (SCQD) objectives; act as a primary escalation point for complex manufacturing issues.

• Partner with Purchasing and Sales during the quoting process to define manufacturing approach, assess technical risk, establish labor standards, and ensure cost competitiveness.

• Establish and validate operational standard hours using time studies and process analysis; drive accuracy in routing and capacity planning assumptions.

• Review engineering drawings, specifications, and model-based definitions to ensure manufacturability; translate design requirements into controlled shop-floor documentation.

• Train and mentor operators and junior engineers on manufacturing methods, process controls, and quality standards; elevate overall technical capability of the team.

• Lead productivity and cost-reduction initiatives through Lean principles, waste elimination, and process optimization; quantify and report measurable performance improvements.

• Develop, validate, and industrialize manufacturing processes for new product introduction (NPI), ensuring processes meet defined capability, repeatability, and quality targets prior to production release.

• Evaluate nonconforming components and determine repair feasibility; develop and validate repair schemes in coordination with Engineering and Quality functions

• The individual is required to be a supportive member of Environmental Safety & Health (ESH) and Quality System policies to provide a safe work place and eliminate conditions and behaviors which may cause work related illnesses and/or injuries while delivering quality product and services on time.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or relevant technical discipline, or HS Diploma/GED w/equivalent composite/aerospace manufacturing/repair experience.

• 5+ years of technical experience with composites and/or aerospace components production or repair.

Desired Characteristics

• Demonstrated experience creating, structuring, and maintaining complex multi-level Bills of Material (BOMs) for aerospace assemblies, ensuring configuration control and production readiness.

The salary or hourly wage scale provided reflects the pay range dsm-firmenich expects to pay the successful candidate for the position. Individual pay offered will be based on the applicant's job-related skills, experience, relevant education, or training, and primary work location. Salary $95,000-$150,000.

About the Job:

As a Project Engineer, you will be involved in the geotechnical and geological aspects of a wide variety of projects. You will play a crucial role which includes daily project management, performing and/or leading field investigations, engineering analysis, calculations, and recommendations, design, and development of plans and specifications, observation and inspection, and the writing/preparation, and review of related reports for the services provided. Review plans and drawings to ensure compliance with the project specifications. Prepare proposals and cost estimates, track and evaluate project progress and budgets, and recommend changes. Research and resolve design and construction problems. Assign, review, and evaluate laboratory or field data for report inclusion. Apply sound engineering principles and be able to communicate complex engineering issues and concepts to technical and non-technical clients and project teams.

Primary Job Duties:

• Conduct geotechnical (preliminary and forensics) and geological investigations

• Perform field inspections and testing as required for construction projects

• Analyze data and prepare geotechnical reports on soil conditions, stability, foundation design, etc.

• Collaborate with architects, engineers, and construction teams to develop effective solutions

• Provide technical guidance on geological and geotechnical related issues throughout the project lifecycle

• Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols

• Project management from the planning phase to the completion of the project

• Conduct plan reviews

• Generate cost proposals

• Participate in project meetings and communicate effectively with owners, designers and project authorities

Job Qualifications (Education, Experience, and Skills):

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with a focus in Geotechnical Engineering

• Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience

• Professional Engineer or Engineer-in-Training Certification in the state of California.

• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills and a sound technical background in soil and rock mechanics

• Attention to detail, dedication to quality and accuracy

• Experience with various commercial geotechnical software

• Strong written and oral communication skills

• Ability to work independently or as part of a team

• Working knowledge of standard business software including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Key Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of geotechnical and geological engineering principles and practices

• Knowledge with the local and statewide such as the California Building Code, Los Angeles Building, California Residential Code

• Proficiency in construction inspection and management

• Ability to analyze data and interpret results

• Proficient in using software and other engineering tools related to the discipline.

• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail

• Strong communication skills to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams

• Ability to read and interpret schematics and construction drawings

Qualifications:

• HS Diploma / GED
• Familiarity with engineering drawings, hand sketches and rough layouts
• Experience with fabrication, assembly, disassembly, & test of motors, components & assemblies
• Experiencewith: Welding, prototyping of sample parts on lathes, drill presses, vertical mills; all non-CNC
• Highly desirable: 3-phase 480V motors, gearmotors, large hatches, and cycle testing of actuator handles
• Experience assisting with Facilities & Maintenance assistance on internal projects, repairs, and improvements involving air lines, power, inventory & shipping equipment, plant offices and shipping yard
• Must have solid MS Office Skills and Computer skills

Responsibilities:

• Assist in mechanical fabrication and modification of prototype and sample parts
• Mechanical assembly and disassembly of parts, helping to define and set up testing.
