Primary Responsibilities:

Compensation for this specialty generally ranges from $104,500 to $156,000. Total cash compensation includes base pay and bonus and is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience and may increase over time based on productivity and performance in the role. Position Overview

The primary purpose of this position is to deliver services as a Physician Assistant or a Nurse Practitioner at the Department of Public Health.

Examples of Duties

Under the general supervision of a physician, duties for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Deliver Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner medical provider services essentially in Communicable Diseases/STD Clinic, Women?s Health Clinic which includes Family Planning, Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program (BCCCP), Teen Wellness Clinic and in Child Health Clinic, based on credentials, at the Cumberland County Department of Public Health.
  • Collect thorough history and physical examinations
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in collaboration with supervising physician
  • Prepare patient workups and communications which indicate findings
  • Order and administer appropriate diagnostic tests
  • Communicate test results to patients and their families
  • Prescribe appropriate medications to include various forms of contraceptives, treatments, referrals and other medical services and carry out therapeutic procedures for quality patient care
  • Document normal and abnormal data in the patient's electronic medical records
  • Monitor and maintain record of each patient's progress and report patients' progress to supervising physician
  • Maintain health care and therapeutic plans
  • Provide education and counseling to patients and families as needed

Minimum Qualifications

Licensed as a Physician Assistant by the North Carolina Medical Board or approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Certified Midwife by the North Carolina Board of Nursing and the North Carolina Medical Board and one year of experience as an APP.

  • Formulate a list of current and past medical conditions using clinical knowledge and judgment and the findings of your assessment
  • Communicate findings in your assessment that will be used to inform member's PCP of potential gaps in care
  • Identify urgent and emergent situations and intervene appropriately
  • Educate members on topics such as disease process, medication, and compliance

Required Qualifications:

  • Active NP or PA license or ability to obtain by start date. Licensure must be unencumbered, free of any open/unresolved disciplinary actions including probation or restrictions against privilege to practice
  • Active national NP or PA certification or the ability to obtain national certification in state of assignment by start date (For NPs - Active ANCC or AANP national certification in Family, Geriatrics, Adult, Adult-Gerontology Primary Care, or Adult-Gerontology Acute Care certification OR for PAs - Physician Assistant national certification through NCCPA)
  • Ability to complete physical requirements of the job including lifting a 30-pound bag in and out of the car, navigating stairs and a variety of dwelling conditions, and sit, stand and kneel to perform physical assessment
  • Reliable transportation to complete home visit assessments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of clinical experience in their highest level of education, clinical setting
  • May be requested to obtain additional licensure in other geographic areas
  • Experience in gerontology, cardiology, internal medicine, or endocrinology
  • Home Health care or home visit experience
  • Ability to travel throughout the state, beyond your assigned region, up to 5% of the time. Based on business needs with advanced notice, eligible for additional compensation incentives
  • Fluency in Spanish, Cantonese, Korean, Vietnamese, Polish, or other language

Compensation for this specialty generally ranges from $104,500 - $156,000. Total cash compensation includes base pay and bonus and is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience and may increase over time based on productivity and performance in the role.
