What You'll Do: As a Physical Damage Appraiser, you will be responsible for facilitating an efficient settlement of material damage claims by determining the fair market value to repair damaged motor vehicles, campers, motorcycles, trailers, and boats utilizing CCC estimating and valuation software.

This will include examining damaged vehicles that could be located at numerous locations, such as tow yards, collision centers and customer's residence or workplace.

You will be responsible for ensuring effective departmental operations by maintaining a positive relationship with local collision centers, salvage yards, and car dealers.

Other duties will include reviewing our Preferred Auto Repair Shop (PARS) estimates and completing PARS re-inspections as needed, and ensuring that all estimates are computer audited to reach an agreed price with our customer's shop of choice.

In addition, you will assist in ensuring efficient operations during natural disasters by resolving claims during storms.

Must reside in the South Central Kansas area.

What It Takes to Join Our Team: Two-year Auto Body degree plus at least two years auto body experience is preferred.

Must be able to fully appraise all aspects of vehicle damage.

Strong computer skills are required in order to quickly learn our multiple systems.

Some travel is required (occasionally some overnight stays) A valid driver's license and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Records are required.

Must be able to work under all kinds of weather conditions and must be able to climb a ladder to inspect recreational vehicles.

Must keep current with existing and pending claims precedents and legislation.

Completion of Associate in Claims (AIC) exams 30, 39, and 40 is required within two years.

The Opportunity
As a dedicated Sr. Field Auto Appraiser, you will within defined guidelines and framework responsible for the investigation, negotiation, evaluation and appraisal of vehicle damage claims for both repairable and total loss vehicles to ensure estimate accuracy in compliance with state laws and regulations. Accountable for delivering exceptional member service through setting appropriate expectations, proactive communications, advice, and empathy.

What you'll do:

* With the use of digital tools, evaluates and appraises highly complex auto physical damage claims in accordance with the terms and conditions of the contract, corporate guidelines and state laws and regulations.
* Investigates claim damages including communicating with the insured, internal claims adjusters, and third parties/vendors. May require face-to-face interactions with members and third parties.
* Reviews facts of loss and vehicle damage to determine if subrogation opportunities exist and ensures all supporting physical damage documentation is in the claim.
* Demonstrates advanced knowledge of P&C insurance industry products, services, contracts, and internal processes/systems/procedures to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and policy provisions.
* Reviews claims/suppliers for fraud indicators and refers to Special Investigations Unit for handling, if applicable.
* Maintains accurate and current claim file documentation throughout the claims process for complex claims.
* Maintains high standards of productivity through effective desk management, timely follow ups, and accurate mapping of repair plan and timeline for repair in support of fast and accurate claims adjudication.
* Responsible for reviewing additional damages received from repair facilities to either complete a supplement or triage to field provider method of inspection.
* May serve as a subject matter expert representative for disputed claims or trials. Serves as a resource to team members on escalated issues of a routine nature.
* Partners with vendors and internal business partners to facilitate the highest complexity claims resolution. May also involve external regulatory coordination to ensure appropriate documentation and compliance.
* Proactively provides policyholders with information regarding their coverage, repair estimate or total loss valuation, and claims/repair process while setting appropriate expectations.
* Supports workload surges and catastrophe (CAT) response operations as needed, including required on-call dates and potential evening, weekend, and/or holiday work outside normal work hours.
* May be assigned CAT deployment travel with minimal notice during designated CATs.
* Works various types of claims, including ones of higher complexity, and may be assigned additional work outside normal duties as needed.
* Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

The Opportunity

What you'll do:

  • Applies appropriate coverage and handles simple liability, evaluates, and settles high volume and low complexity auto claims with repairable vehicles.
  • Resolves claims through proactive problem solving and decision making, within authority guidelines and under direct supervision, overcoming obstacles, and effectively prioritizing the workload.
  • Clearly documents thought process including damage evaluation, investigation, negotiation, and settlement decisions.
  • Collaborates and sets expectations with external and internal business partners to facilitate claims resolution.
  • Supports members, business partners, and claimants, through use of varying communication channels to include utilization of digital tools to drive timely and effective resolutions through exceptional service.
  • Acquires and applies a foundational knowledge of P&C insurance industry products, services, to include P&C insurance policy contracts, coverages and internal claims handling process and procedures.
  • Applies basic knowledge of Auto Physical Damage. Supports workload surges and catastrophe (CAT) response operations as needed, including mandatory on-call dates and potential evening, weekend, and/or holiday work outside normal work hours.
  • May be assigned CAT deployment travel with minimal notice during designated CATs.
  • Works various types of claims, including ones of higher complexity, and may be assigned additional work outside normal duties as needed.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma.
  • 1 year or more of military experience.
  • Acquisition and maintenance of insurance adjuster license within week 2 of training and 3 testing attempts.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task, including navigating through multiple business applications.
  • Successful completion of a job-related assessment may be required.

What sets you apart:

  • Currently serving in the military and you will be eligible to participate in a SkillBridge program in the Spring or Summer of 2026.
  • Ability to get permission from your commander to participate in the SkillBridge program.
