Position Requirements:

POSITION SUMMARY

As part of the Talent and Career Strategy team, the Senior Paralegal provides advanced legal support throughout all phases of complex litigation and investigations while overseeing and directing the work of junior and midlevel paralegals. POSITION SUMMARY

As part of the Talent and Career Strategy team, the Senior Paralegal provides advanced legal support throughout all phases of complex litigation and investigations while overseeing and directing the work of junior and midlevel paralegals. This role combines high-level case management responsibilities with team leadership, workflow coordination, and quality oversight. The Senior Paralegal will also play a critical role in fact development, evidence preservation, regulatory response, and risk mitigation. The Senior Paralegal operates with a high degree of autonomy, manages multiple matters at once, and serves as a key liaison between attorneys, clients, courts, and external vendors.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Litigation, Investigation, & Case Management Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys in all stages of large, complex litigation matters from inception through post-trial, including attending and supporting depositions, hearings, trials, and arbitrations.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of federal and state procedural rules and electronic filing requirements; implement and maintain case calendaring and docketing systems, ensure accuracy of key dates, and provide guidance on court-related procedural questions.
  • Prepare templates and draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, and related legal documents; assist with proofreading, legal cite-checking, Bluebook compliance, and case law retrieval.

  • Assist attorneys with document collection, Relativity database setup, and management, including document production.
  • Perform complex data analysis, tracking, and discovery management within Relativity, including document review and database searches.

Leadership & Training Responsibilities

  • Supervise, mentor, and train junior and midlevel paralegals assigned to your matters.

OVERVIEW

The Legal Practice Assistant, working under the supervision of the Washington, DC Director of Assistant Development & Support, will take direction from and operate in support of several lawyers in the performance of a variety of administrative duties as assigned. The Legal Practice Assistant is a non‐exempt position. The hours are 8:45-5:15 PM, Monday ‐ Friday and additional hours as required.

REQUIRED JOB FUNCTIONS

The Legal Practice Assistant must be proficient in the following:

  • Receive assignments from partners, associates, and lawyers and perform tasks as requested; update requestor regarding receipt and status of tasks/projects, and consistently meet agreed upon deadlines.
  • Input attorney time into the Web Time time-entry program. Educate timekeepers about appropriate time entry requirements and standards.
  • Work with the Billing department in all aspects of the billing cycle, including but not limited to the review of client billing for accuracy, edits to content/grammar; resolution of billing problems; and efficient changes to the process.
  • Prepare attorney expense reimbursements and process client-related vendor invoices for payment.
  • Sort, open, prioritize and route incoming mail. Prepare outgoing mail including U.S.P.S., U.P.S. and Federal Express. Coordinate messenger pick-ups and deliveries when necessary.
  • Coordinate attorneys' firm and client-related meeting set-ups, including but not limited to conference calls, zoom meetings and in-person meetings.
  • Maintain calendar and contacts for attorneys. Maintain electronic filing system via Outlook.
  • Perform document conversions, e.g., PDF to Word, etc.
  • Handle telephone calls from internal and external sources including taking accurate messages and appropriately routing calls.
  • Coordinate prints, scans and duplicating projects with Digital Document Center or Print/Mail Centers.
  • Coordinate travel arrangements (air, hotel, rail, car rental and black car) with firm-provided travel agency.
  • Coordinate the New Matter Intake process. Initiate Conflicts Checks. Prepare, finalize, and distribute new client Engagement Letters, New Business Memo, etc. Follow-up with client to ensure receipt of fully executed Engagement Letter.
