Job Description Summary:
This position directs planning, organization, and operation of the laboratory services. The position is responsible for the overall coordination of testing processes within the campus and in conjunction with other OhioHealth hospitals and OhioHealth Laboratory Services.Responsibilities And Duties:
60%Manages all aspects of the hospital laboratory services to meet customer needs and support hospital and department balanced scorecard goals. This includes: direct responsibility for Laboratory operations and ownership/coordination of cross-functional, laboratory-related processes through leadership with Nursing, other departments, the medical staff, and administration. The Director is responsible for the development and management of department operating and capital budgets, as well as personnel issues within the department.

Performs procedures for testing or analysis on specimens submitted to the laboratory. Evaluates test results for accuracy and submits results for the purpose of aiding the physician in diagnostic and therapeutic treatment of patients. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Requires at least three (3) years for experience in Microbiology
- Bachelor's degree in medical technology or an appropriate biological/chemical/medical science from an accredited college or university, and
- Successful completion of a structured clinical program (CAHEA approved), and certification in clinical laboratory sciences by a recognized certifying agency.
OR:
- Bachelor's degree in medical technology or an appropriate biological/chemical/medical science from an accredited college or university, and
- Successful completion of a structured clinical program (CAHEA approved) and must obtain a certification in clinical laboratory sciences or laboratory categorical within the first six (6) months from date of hire.
OR:
- Completion of an accredited structured clinical program in Medical Technology (NOTE: For Military Training, the 60-week program must have been successfully completed.) and
- Certification by a recognized certifying agency, both prior to 1963.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

Must maintain certification status in compliance with specifications for continuing education required by the certification agency.

The Medical Laboratory Scientist performs chemical, bacteriological, serological, hematological, and microscopic procedures in the Central Clinical Laboratory that require the exercise of independent judgment and interpretation. All individuals in the job classification meet the qualifications necessary to perform high complexity testing as defined by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA 88).
Hours: .9 FTE/72 hours every two weeks working 7 shifts on/7 shifts off, NIGHT shifts
Experience/Qualifications
- Knowledge of laboratory standards and practices normally acquired through completion of an associate or bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science or related field.
- Possesses active Medical Technology (MT-ASCP), Medical Laboratory Science certification (MLS-ASCP), or equivalent or attains within 12 months of hire.
- Annual competencies as required by Aspirus and/or various regulatory agencies based on entity and/or job position.

Summary:
Assists the Laboratory Resources Coordinator with various duties as assigned. Responsible for maintaining adequate supply inventory levels for all laboratory departments. Responsible for receiving inventory, stocking inventory, reconciliation of packing slips, and resolution with vendors. Performs all forms of clerical duties as assigned.
Responsibilities:

* Responsible for receiving inventory, stocking inventory, and reconciliation of packing slips. Responsible for problem resolution with vendors, and other entities, as assigned.
* Assists with supply orders by entering into the HSS ordering system;
places orders to the vendor, as assigned.
* Assists with completing monthly reports, as assigned.
* Assists with the processing and maintenance of laboratory records and reports;
audits/reconciles invoices, as assigned.
* Assists with obtaining demographic information for STD reports;
distributes/files as required.
* Miscellaneous duties such as copying, scanning, printing, organization of files, filing, etc. Creates correspondence, letters, and memos as requested. Creates graphs and meeting materials for presentation via Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Publisher, and Word software, as requested.
* Works as a team member to perform and complete all assignments, to provide timely results on a daily basis. Completes tasks or special projects within the time frame allowed per any guidelines established as assigned by Laboratory Resources Coordinator, Section Supervisor, Manager, or Director.
* Continuing education and development - attends, listens by tape, or reads material of 10-12 in-house educational programs per year.
* Practices safety, infection control, and security as defined by the hospital department and section policy and procedure manuals;
follows all safety and infection control procedures including wearing appropriate PPE for assigned job functions;
disposes of biohazardous materials and hazardous chemicals as established by the departmental policy;
all patient information, including lab results, are maintained in the strictest of confidence, limited to health care professionals needing this information to perform patient care.

EDUCATION
- Two years clinical laboratory experience with at least one year experience in the specific laboratory department.

- Successful completion of a structured clinical program (CAHEA approved), and certification in clinical laboratory sciences by a recognized certifying agency.
