The Plant Engineer is responsible for maintaining, optimizing, and improving manufacturing and packaging equipment within a pharmaceutical production facility. This role focuses on ensuring equipment reliability, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency, with a strong emphasis on Vertical Form Fill Seal (VFFS) packaging systems used in pharmaceutical or medical product packaging.

Key Responsibilities
Equipment Reliability & Maintenance
- Provide technical support for manufacturing and packaging equipment, including Vertical Form Fill Seal (VFFS) machines.

- Develop and maintain preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
- Coordinate repairs and upgrades with maintenance technicians and external vendors.
- Monitor equipment performance and implement improvements to increase uptime and efficiency.
Packaging Equipment Expertise
- Maintain and optimize VFFS packaging lines, including forming, filling, sealing, and product handling systems.
- Support setup, changeovers, and line optimization for packaging operations.
- Work with production teams to minimize downtime and improve throughput.
- Evaluate and recommend packaging equipment upgrades or modifications.
Regulatory Compliance & Validation
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with FDA regulations, cGMP, and pharmaceutical industry standards.
- Support equipment qualification activities including:
- IQ/OQ/PQ
- Process validation
- Packaging validation
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, SOPs, and maintenance records.
Qualifications/Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of engineering experience in pharmaceutical, medical device, or regulated manufacturing.
- Hands-on experience with Vertical Form Fill Seal (VFFS) packaging equipment.
- Experience in FDA-regulated or cGMP manufacturing environments.

Perform routine specimen preparation which involves cutting various tissue types and mounting them on glass slides for examination under the microscope by the pathologist.

Able to perform complex histologic procedures, recognize deviations from expected results, and analyze and correct problems using scientific principles learned from NAACLS training and number years of experience.

- Dexterity and good hand-eye coordination are required to collect and prepare specimens
- Lab safety and infection prevention is of paramount importance

- Remove tissue from a preservative solution, remove water from the sample, and replace it with paraffin wax
- Embed sample in a larger block of wax to prepare it for slicing before mounting it on a microtome
- Slice or section the sample then stain with special dyes and mount on a slide for viewing with a microscope

Director of Food Safety & Quality Assurance (FSQA)
The Director of Food Safety & Quality Assurance (FSQA) is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive food safety and quality management system across a network of external manufacturing partners and suppliers. This role ensures that all finished products meet regulatory requirements, customer expectations, and internal quality standards.
The Director will serve as the primary food safety authority for the organization, leading risk-based programs, managing co-manufacturer relationships, and driving continuous improvement across the supply chain.
Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Own and oversee the company’s food safety and quality programs, including HACCP, Preventive Controls (FSMA), supplier approval, and product release.
- Ensure compliance with FDA, USDA (if applicable), state regulations, and relevant global food safety standards.
- Act as the Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) or ensure appropriate coverage.
- Lead regulatory inspections, third-party audits, and customer audits related to co-manufacturing partners.
Co-Manufacturer & Supplier Management
- Develop and maintain robust qualification, approval, and monitoring programs for co-manufacturers, suppliers, and contract packers.
- Conduct risk-based audits of external manufacturing facilities and ingredient suppliers.
- Review and approve food safety plans, quality systems, and change management at co-manufacturing sites.
- Partner closely with Operations, Supply Chain, R&D, and Procurement to ensure seamless execution and issue resolution.
Quality Systems & Continuous Improvement
- Establish and maintain company-wide Quality Management Systems (QMS) appropriate for a non-manufacturing organization.
- Own programs including specifications, COA review, deviations, non-conformances, CAPAs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Analyze quality and food safety data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for quality incidents and customer complaints.
Product Safety & Crisis Management
- Lead recall and crisis management programs, including mock recalls and traceability exercises.
- Serve as the primary contact for food safety incidents, escalations, and regulatory communications.
- Ensure robust product traceability and lot control across external manufacturing partners.
Leadership & Communication
- Build, mentor, and lead the FSQA team as the organization grows.
- Provide clear, practical guidance to internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Communicate food safety risks and quality performance to senior leadership in a clear, business-focused manner.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- 10+ years of progressive experience in food safety and quality, including significant experience managing external co-mans.
- Strong working knowledge of FSMA, HACCP, Preventive Controls, and FDA regulations.
- Experience leading third-party audits and regulatory inspections.
- PCQI certification (or ability to obtain).

JOB SUMMARY:
The Contract Manager is responsible for centrally supporting vendor selection, due diligence, contract negotiation, and ongoing internal relationship management activities relative to vendors. This position plays a key role in partnering with internal stakeholders, managing the vendors by ensuring timely execution renewals and ongoing needs. The Vendor Management Administrator provides oversight of organizational contracts, vendor relations, and leading overall sourcing strategy. They will also provide oversight of policies and procedures related to this workforce, partnering with all departments to ensure alignment and management of vendor management office interactions. Provides customer focus and diligence ensuring strategic alignment of the customer experience related to vendor management operations. Works in conjunction with HR on any staffing and policies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identify, research, and guide vendor selection determinations for the organization. Function as a liaison for the organization’s stakeholders to ensure vendor relations are strong and functioning well. Ensure vendor performance achieves planned outcomes based on each business case. Utilize vendor data metrics to track and measure vendor performance; communicate performance to vendors.
- Ensure contract documents are complete, accurate, legally and organizationally compliant, meet state specific requirements and contract specifications. Oversee and monitor contract compliance, contract modifications and change order request implementation.
- Perform initial and ongoing risk assessments of new vendors and any new services with existing vendors. Review and implement information, security controls, financial viability, reputation, legal, operational efficiency and effectiveness, compliance, and other areas. Develop and maintain a detailed risk management plan to minimize closeout risks, in the event of a contract closeout period, and tracks closeout program.
- Utilize knowledge gained from operational management, industry best practices, and regulatory guidance to ensure continuous improvement of this function. Analyze data and create reporting mechanisms on program utilization and overall outcomes on an ongoing basis; collaborate with internal groups and develop strategies for continuous improvement efforts.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
