Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, evidence-based pediatric critical care as a Locum Tenens Nurse Practitioner in the PICU
- Perform comprehensive assessments, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and manage acute and chronic pediatric conditions
- Initiate and manage advanced life support, ventilator support, invasive monitoring, and other PICU-level interventions per scope
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—attending physicians, bedside nurses, respiratory therapists, and specialists—to develop and implement patient care plans
- Document all patient care accurately and timely in Epic to support continuity of care and compliance
- Provide family-centered education and support during critical care episodes
- Participate in unit-based quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical protocol initiatives

- Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: Inpatient and OR (shift times vary; Wednesday reserved for major cases)
- Tuesday, Friday: Clinic (8:00 AM–5:00 PM, may finish earlier)
- No call required — excellent work-life balance for locum tenens PA jobs
- Estimated patient encounters per shift: 4–15
Required Qualifications
- Active California Physician Assistant license (PA-C) and CA DEA registration
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Physician Assistant in surgical settings (surgical PA experience required)
- Board certification required
- Robotics experience and certification (please provide documentation)
- Ability to independently assist in surgical cases and manage inpatient care (OR first assist experience preferred)
- Documentation of at least 25 general cases (notes, H&P, op reports) and 5 OR cases
- Must be a Physician Assistant (PA-C) — NPs not accepted
Preferred Qualifications
- Fellowship in surgical subspecialty preferred
- Prior locum tenens or contract experience in California or similar hospital settings
Responsibilities
- Serve as first assist in surgical oncology and general surgery cases (OR first assist duties)
- Provide inpatient medical and surgical care on hospital wards
- Support surgeons in both major and minor operative cases, including robotics-assisted procedures
- Conduct clinic visits, patient assessments, pre-op and post-op follow-ups
- Manage patient phone calls and coordinate multidisciplinary care as needed
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation for all patient encounters (H&Ps, op notes, progress notes)
