- You will provide guidance and direction to Shipfitter shop personnel.
- You will provide instruction for nuclear or non-nuclear work of the Structural Group personnel in the skills of the trade.
- You will prepare analysis of trade requirements through the use of audits, surveillance, and/or incident reports.
- You will provide interpretations and problem resolution for shop employees.

- You will perform reviews of documents associated with completed work and trade processes.
- You will keep shop personnel apprised of new technologies, procedures, and tooling improvements associated, approved, and adopted for welding work.
- You will provide process improvements and work with engineering to reduce cost and improve the overall efficiency of the welding and non-destructive test program.
- You will inspect completed and in process work for quality of workmanship and adherence to requirements, specifications, standards, plans and schedules.
- You will train and mentor less skilled employees, demonstrate proper work methods, and discuss viable alternatives and considerations.
- You will serve as an Expert Welder leading a group to ensure work assignments are completed.

- You will install packing, gaskets, liners and similar items where necessary.

Newport News Shipbuilding has partnered with the Virginia Ship Repair Association and local Virginia community colleges and maritime training facilities to offer several course-to-hire Marine Trades Training (MTT) programs for individuals interested in learning a trade and working full-time for Newport News Shipbuilding. Courses are offered once a month with 8-10 students per class. The Machinist Trainee program is offered at Camp Community College (Suffolk, VA). This (UNPAID) program is 3-weeks (120 hours), 7:00am - 3:30pm (Monday thru Friday).

Their work takes place on naval vessels at various stages of new construction, overhaul, or repair. The Biomedical Technician will help guide all center, acute and home operations. The Biomedical Technician serves as the Inventory Management Controller for all medical supplies, medications, and parts to service all equipment.
The Biomedical Technician partners with their Biomedical Operations Manager to develop a customized plan which integrates all maintenance priorities balanced with the priorities of the supplies and overall location needs. The Biomedical Technician serves as a center leader in the areas of water, equipment, supplies, inventory, and physical plant.
