As an Avionics Mechanical Engineer at Reliable Robotics, you will be a part of the Vehicle Design and Integration team and will report to the Vehicle Design and Integration Manager. This team is a small group of highly motivated people designing, testing, and flying advanced mechanical systems. The harness engineer is a very cross-functional role at the convergence of the avionics, mechanical, integration, and production teams, with significant hands-on work designing, building, integrating, and testing our harnesses, enclosures, and mounting hardware; expect to broaden your design and application experience. This position will be located at our facility in Mountain View, California.

Responsibilities

In your role as Avionics Mechanical Engineer you will work with the avionics, mechanical, and integration teams to define the hardware interfaces, design the detailed harnesses including definition of the harness routing, design and test enclosures for environmental protection, and design the structural mounts for securing the hardware in the airplane. You'll have the opportunity to design, install, and test your hardware on a remotely operated aircraft, and you'll be an instrumental part of how our hardware teams come together on the airplane.

Basic Success Criteria

• BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent industry experience

• 2+ years experience in mechanical or avionics hardware design

• Ability to route harnessing (both in CAD and physically in the airplane) in a strategic manner

• Experience working with connectors, backshells, EMI shielding, and cable/wire protection methods

• Experience designing and analyzing structural mounts

• A love of spatial packaging

• Be logical, inquisitive, and eager to both teach and learn

Preferred Criteria

• 4+ years experience in harness design and avionics packaging

• Experience performing design trades for and detail design of aerospace flight harnesses

• Experience with NX routing and Capital Harness Designer

• Experience designing avionics enclosures

• Experience working on certification-path aviation development projects

Job Overview

Our Client Aerospace is seeking experienced Electrician / Avionics Technicians to support KC-130J aircraft modification programs. This role involves installation, modification, testing, and troubleshooting of aircraft electrical and avionics systems in accordance with military technical orders and engineering specifications.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience working with aircraft wiring, harness installation, electrical troubleshooting, and avionics system modifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, engineering drawings, and technical manuals.
• Fabricate, install, and modify aircraft electrical wiring, harnesses, and coaxial cables.
• Perform installation, repair, removal, and reinstallation of aircraft electrical systems.

Avionics Technician you will be responsible for installing electrical harnesses/components, routing various wire/cables, Terminating cables/wires, and performing operational checks. You may also be required to troubleshoot and repairing electrical and avionics systems based on area assigned. As a Sr. Avionics Harness Technician at Reliable Robotics, you will be a part of the Production organization. This is a small but growing team of highly motivated people passionate about delivering quality products and services on time, with unquestionable value. You'll play a critical role in the build, operation, integration, test, diagnostics, inspection, and maintenance of highly reliable avionics systems, such as wiring harnesses and electromechanical hardware. You'll also help with the installation of those systems onto aircraft. Your work will support various product development phases such as prototype, research and development, aircraft certification, and recurring production. This is a fantastic opportunity to serve as the last line of defense for ensuring that our safety-critical systems are reliable and produced to the intended engineering requirements.

Responsibilities

• Build, operate, integrate, test, diagnose, inspect, and maintain highly reliable systems, including wire harnesses, cable assemblies, avionics assemblies, and circuit card assemblies

• Read, interpret, and work from drawings, controlled documentation, and processes such as drawings, layouts, assembly procedures/work instructions, schematics, engineering drawings, and master parts lists

• Develop and improve manufacturing and installation instructions

• Assure product and process quality by testing finished-product and process capabilities

• Resolve product non-conformances and collaborate with the quality team to implement corrective actions

• Record work performed in a clear, precise, and complete manner

• Assist with the development of production and improvement processes

Basic Success Criteria

• 8+ years of professional experience building/fabricating wire harnesses or cable assemblies, or other testing, integration, or mechanical assembly experience

• 5+ years of hands-on experience reviewing technical designs and working from drawings, schematics, layouts, assembly/procedures, master parts lists, and other controlled documentation

• One or more of the following certifications: IPC-A-610, IPC-A-620, IPC J-STD-001, NASA-STD-8739.4

• Ability to proficiently use a PC/Mac, Google Suite, manufacturing execution systems, JIRA, or equivalent tools

• Ability to lift 25-pound boxes to a height of 3-4 feet, with or without reasonable accommodation

Preferred Criteria

• Experience working in an electro-mechanical manufacturing company, a precision manufacturing company, or a high-volume manufacturing company

• Electro-mechanical assembly and prototype development experience

• Experience setting up and running tests and experiment
