At Houston Methodist, the Physician Assistant (PA) functions as an advanced practice practitioner, responsible for maintaining and promoting the health of the patient requiring care, practicing medicine under the supervision of a licensed physician. This position will provide diagnostic, therapeutic, surgical and preventative care, under the supervision of a physician. The PA position exams, diagnoses and decides treatment for patients, including analyzing and interpreting x-rays and lab results, writes prescriptions, takes patients' histories, provides surgical assistance, and orders various forms of therapy. 200 Medical-Surgical is a 30-bed unit that cares for patients admitted from the Emergency Department, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, Critical Care Units, and physician offices. The team serves a broad age range, from young adults to patients over 100 — offering diverse and valuable clinical experiences.

The unit specializes in medical, surgical, and gynecologic/oncology care. Common procedures include hysterectomies, mastectomies, bowel resections, and various oncology surgeries. Chemotherapy is occasionally administered, and patients may require telemetry monitoring or oxygen support.

Team members on this unit gain exposure to a wide range of diagnoses, allowing them to build a strong, versatile skill set. The unit is known for its supportive, team-focused culture and offers professional development opportunities such as precepting and advancement through the clinical ladder

900 Surgical is a 30-bed adult medical-surgical unit specializing in post-operative care for gastrointestinal (GI) and genitourinary (GU) surgical patients. We are also proud to be recognized as a Center of Excellence for bariatric surgery.
