Description
Plans and designs manufacturing processes throughout the plant. This position maximizes efficiency by analyzing all aspects of manufacturing processes. Determines parts and tools needed to achieve product specifications and business objectives.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Under general direction, performs the management of projects related to aerospace component engineering and manufacturing for new and existing parts and assemblies. Establishes manufacturing methods and process sequence necessary to complete parts. Creates models, operation sheets and work instructions using Solidworks software. Initiates Tool & Fixture design concepts and maintains close feedback with other shop floor personnel, management and related customers and vendors. Troubleshoots manufacturing problems and implements method and tool improvements. Writes rework and repair methods for non-conformances and prepares projects timelines. Participates in discussions with customers and suppliers as required. Performs additional duties as requested, including cost estimating.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Reads and interprets blueprints, symbols and geometric tolerances based on military and commercial specifications.
- Able to process complex assemblies and conceptualize developmental and production tooling in a job shop environment.
- Proficient with the following software applications: Solidworks (or equivalent), MS Project / Word / Excel.
- Able to create Solid models, operations sheets, Tool and Fixture designs.

Position Snapshot/A Day in the Life: The Engineering Technician II performs routine drafting and technical engineering work in support of municipal infrastructure projects. Responsibilities include assisting with engineering design and planning, providing customer service, and performing technical office and field duties related to updating, maintaining, and analyzing the Public Works and Engineering Department's Geographic Information System (GIS) and utility infrastructure data. This position coordinates and conducts research, field data collection, and condition assessments of infrastructure assets, using GIS, database, and information management tools to support capital planning and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Essential Functions
Engineering Technician II -This is the full journey level in the Engineering Technician series. Employees within this class are distinguished from the Engineering Technician I By the performance of the full range of duties as assigned including the moderately complex duties of drafting, office and field engineering work. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is flexibly staffed and is normally filled by advancement from the I level, or when filled from the outside, requires previous work experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Incumbent must have the ability to:
- Review and process tract maps, parcel maps, of line adjustments, grants of easement, and street right-of-ways for recordation.
- Verify fulfillment of conditions of approval for new subdivisions; perform on-site inspections to verify survey monuments related to parcel maps and lot line adjustments.
- Prepare and draft technical engineering plans for construction of streets, alleys, storm drains, water lines, and other public improvements.
- Provide public assistance at counter and over the telephone.
- Prepare quantity and cost estimates for engineering projects.
- Maintain a variety of maps and records including tract maps, parcel maps, lot line adjustments, easements, street and address changes.
- Review engineering plans to determine appropriate layout of construction projects.
- Perform on-site inspections to obtain information; determine angles and set grade stakes, hubs, turning points and benchmarks using appropriate surveying techniques; locate and measure boundary lines, right-of-ways, and land grades.
- Make and check mathematical calculations related to surveying, drafting and basic engineering.
- Maintain accurate survey records in the form of field notes and sketches.
- Participate in a variety of engineering design and planning work related to municipal engineering projects.
- Answer questions and provide information to the public concerning engineering activities.
- Assist in development and maintenance of the record keeping and filing systems.

Purpose:
Colonna's Shipyard is seeking a General Foreman for our Crane and Rigging Department to support operations in our shipyard in Norfolk, VA.
Position Summary:
Position maintains detailed understanding of project specifications and all requirements necessary for appropriate trades support, ensuring safe and efficient production in ship repair/industrial fabrication operations. Provides oversight to qualified trades workforce & trades supervision and is responsible for meeting overall schedule, budget, quality, and safety goals of work assigned.
The position is located onsite in Norfolk, VA and will often require hours beyond a standard work week with flexible schedule availability to support production/operations. Position may require limited travel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Supports labor requirements for completion of job assignments. Understand specifications, blueprints, and job orders in order to effectively communicate duties to work teams. Maintains adequate personnel/manning levels, production space, tooling, and equipment assets, while establishing work processes to meet production schedules. Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crews. Analyzes and resolves work problems to minimize disruptions to production schedule.
Key responsibilities include:
- Manages all shop resources by assigning trades personnel to Foremen based on project needs.
- Supports trades foremen in supervising, assigning, coordinating, training, and evaluating semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel according to their skill, experience, and job knowledge. Recommends training to enhance skill and productivity of employees and assists in development of training processes/procedures. Continually monitor foremen's project designations, deck plate presence, understanding of work scope, and efficiency of trades management.
- Manages lifecycle of shop personnel through all phases of employment, to include: hiring and retention efforts of shop personnel, as well as developing/delivering coaching and disciplinary actions needed to address performance concerns. Responsible for personnel administration needs, to include recommendations/handling of change requests facilitated by EANs (pay, reclassification, etc.).
- Engaged in workforce development by identifying candidates for additional development/mentorship opportunities, support succession planning efforts, and ensuring assigned apprentices have appropriate oversight and developmental resources.
- Breaks broad projects down to practical action plans, ensuring adequate shop manning resources, and develops/executes POD for all shop resources (with the input of Foreman) daily to ensure production goals are executed safely and efficiently.
- Responsible for final approval and presentation of all project deliverables via condition reports and approval/management of all material orders, ensuring contractual requirements and period of performance are met.
- Responsible for complying with all technical aspects of the job including adherence to all drawings, procedures, etc. and manages test and inspection plans for assigned areas (overseeing submittal of required documentation, ensure foreman attend inspections as required, etc.).
- Responsible for manufacturing, installation, operation, testing, and process operations that have a significant financial impact on the company's performance.
Additionally, position will:
- Provide data/feedback for current budgets via hours management/EACs, including dates, and report scheduling and progress updates to superintendents/project management.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors/Registered Apprentice (grad) + 2 years relative trades experience (or HS + 6 years trades experience) and 2 years of prior supervisory experience.
- Ability to understand job specifications, drawings, and corresponding technical references years supervisory experience.
- Well-developed communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively communicate with employees/leadership/customers and prepare/deliver written reports and correspondence.
- Must have knowledge of weight testing in accordance with specified technical manuals for equipment such as cranes, davits, winches, anchors, anchor chains, shafts, and propellers.

Position SummarySet up and operate machine tools. Fit and assemble parts to make or repair metal stamping dies, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, and machining procedures. Study specifications, such as blueprints, sketch, or description of part to be made, and plan sequence of operations. Primary Duties and Responsibilities include the following:- Studies sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequence of operations to fabricate product
- Operates metalworking machine tools, such as lathe, milling machine, drill, or grinder to machine parts to specifications
- Assembles parts into completed units using jigs, fixtures, hand tools, and power tools
- Fabricates, assembles, and modifies tooling, such as jigs, fixtures, templates, and molds or dies to produce parts and assemblies
- Verifies dimensions of parts, using precision measuring and marking instruments and knowledge of trigonometry within .0005
- Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media

Job Summary : As a Manual/CNC Machinist at PRL, you will be responsible for operating various manual/CNC horizontal or vertical milling/boring machines and lathes. Your primary duty will be machining various parts to customer specifications from castings, bar stock, and other materials. You will work following blueprints, standards, and specifications, as well as verbal and written procedures, to ensure the highest quality and precision in every part you produce.
Job Qualifications :
Education : A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Advanced education, such as an Associate's degree, is preferred.
Experience : Related machining experience is very desirable. An appropriate combination of education and experience will be considered.
Skills : Ability to use manual machine tools (set-ups, machine positioning, etc.), read and interpret blueprints, and use various measuring tools. Knowledge of shop math, trigonometry, and geometric dimensioning/tolerancing is essential. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and read/write in English. Ability to function independently with minimal supervision.
Job Duties and Responsibilities :
1. Set up and operate a variety of manual and/or CNC machines in a productive, quality, and safe manner, following a reasonable training period. Use hand tools and measuring tools.
2. Use CNC machines, including familiarity with G and M programming codes, and the ability to make minor program edits at the machine.
3. Demonstrate knowledge of correct speeds, feeds, work holding methods, cutting tools, and cutting tool materials and shapes, print/drawing interpretation, routine equipment and machine maintenance, and measuring/finishing methods.
4. Machine parts to within tolerances as close as .0002\".
5. Participate in the design of jigs and fixtures for machining parts.
6. Follow verbal and written instructions, sketches, and blueprints. Communicate with co-workers in both verbal and written form, and advise others without written procedures.
7. Operate forklift trucks, overhead cranes, and hand/floor trucks as needed.
8. Verify that the information on the documents corresponds with the parts. Record the information following the instructions. Maintain accurate records of work performed, as requested.
9. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area. Perform other duties as assigned.
10. Work independently with limited supervision required, generally limited to work scheduling, supply needs, clarification of confusing instructions, and direct/indirect needs as may arise.
11. The Employer may assign additional duties to the Employee as required by business needs, provided such duties are reasonable and align with the Employee's qualifications.
12. Participate in annual required safety training.
Physical and Mental Efforts:
General: Extensive mobility is required, with some moderate-to-heavy lifting. The position requires occasionally lifting objects weighing more than 50 pounds, walking and standing for extended periods, examining objects closely, and hearing normal sounds with some background noise. The position requires concentration with some interruptions and attention to tasks for 45 to 60 minutes at a time.
