Position Summary

603 Manufacturing is seeking a detail-oriented Cable Assembly Engineer to support the development and optimization of cable and wire harness manufacturing processes. This role is responsible for creating clear, accurate, and efficient work instructions for production teams, ensuring consistent quality and manufacturability of cable assemblies. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with cable assembly manufacturing and a strong ability to translate engineering documentation into practical, production-ready instructions.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related field required.

Experience:

• 3–5 years of experience creating work instructions for cable assembly manufacturing.
• Experience working in a manufacturing environment involving cable assemblies or wire harnesses.
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and process improvement tools.
• Knowledge of IPC-620 and IPC-620-S.

Knowledge:

• Strong knowledge of manufacturing process development, process validation, and continuous improvement.

Skills:

• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, cable drawings, and assembly prints.
• Strong documentation and technical writing skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and documentation tools.
• Experience with ERP/MRP systems and manufacturing documentation is preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Job Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain detailed work instructions and visual documentation for cable and wire harness assembly processes.
• Interpret customer drawings, schematics, and specifications to create accurate manufacturing documentation.
• Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to ensure processes are efficient, repeatable, and compliant with customer requirements.
• Support new product introduction (NPI) by developing manufacturing processes and documentation.
• Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), process flows, and routing instructions in the company ERP/MRP system.
• Evaluate assembly processes and recommend improvements to increase efficiency, quality, and throughput.
• Assist with troubleshooting manufacturing issues related to cable assembly processes and documentation.
• Ensure documentation aligns with quality standards and internal procedures.
• Support training of production staff on new or updated work instructions.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing environment.
• Ensure compliance with aerospace, space, and defense industry standards such as AS9100, IPC/WHMA-A-620, NASA STD-8739, and customer-specific requirements.
• Resolve production issues by collaborating with quality and engineering manager to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.

Internal and External Relationships

This position interacts with multiple departments on a regular basis, including engineering and quality. This position will also be highly interactive on the Production floor, working with the Assemblers.

Position Summary

603 Manufacturing is growing, and we are looking for a hands-on, detail-driven NPI / Manufacturing Engineer who thrives on turning complex, high-reliability builds into clean, repeatable, audit-ready processes. This role is especially critical as we support customers in the space and aerospace sectors, where documentation, traceability, and process control are non-negotiable. What You’ll Do

Lead New Product Introduction (NPI)

• Own the manufacturing ramp-up for new cable and electro-mechanical assemblies
• Translate engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements into production-ready processes
• Support and fully document first piece builds from prototype through production release
• Ensure builds meet space and aerospace level workmanship and documentation standards

Develop Flight-Ready Work Instructions

• Create clear, visual, step-by-step work instructions for complex cable assemblies
• Standardize documentation across programs to meet customer and regulatory expectations
• Build controlled, revision-managed documentation packages
• Incorporate inspection criteria, torque values, crimp specifications, test procedures, and traceability requirements

Space and Aerospace Compliance

• Interpret and implement customer flow-down requirements
• Ensure compliance with applicable standards such as:
• IPC/WHMA-A-620, Space Addendum preferred
• NASA workmanship standards where applicable
• AS9100 principles and documentation rigor
• Establish full material traceability and lot control processes
• Support first article inspections and customer audits
• Build processes that are repeatable, traceable, and audit-ready

First Piece and Process Development

• Capture photos, tooling setups, fixturing, inspection points, and lessons learned during first builds
• Identify risk areas early including handling, routing, strain relief, testing, and labeling
• Define quality gates and inspection checkpoints
• Convert tribal knowledge into controlled documentation

Standardization and Continuous Improvement

• Develop scalable templates for cable assembly documentation
• Drive consistency across programs and operators
• Improve throughput while maintaining zero-defect expectations
• Reduce variability in high reliability builds

What Makes You a Great Fit

• 5 or more years in manufacturing engineering, NPI, or process engineering
• Direct experience supporting space, aerospace, or other high-reliability customers
• Strong understanding of:
• IPC/WHMA-A-620, Space Addendum strongly preferred
• First Article Inspection, AS9102 experience a plus
• Configuration control and revision management
• Lot traceability and material control systems
• Experience building processes that withstand customer audits
• Comfortable on the production floor. This is not a desk-only role.
• Process-driven, detail-focused, and quality-first mindset

• Experience supporting NASA, commercial space, or defense programs

Position Overview

603 Manufacturing is a high-reliability cable and harness manufacturer serving space, aerospace, and defense customers. We build mission-critical hardware where workmanship, documentation discipline, and on-time delivery are non-negotiable.

The Production Supervisor leads daily operations on the shop floor, ensuring safe, efficient execution of complex Class 3 and Space Addendum assemblies. This role is hands-on and highly visible. The Supervisor drives schedule adherence, labor efficiency, quality performance, and team development while maintaining strict compliance with AS9100 and customer-specific workmanship standards.

This is not a clipboard supervisor role. This leader is present on the floor, removes barriers, and drives flow.

Key Responsibilities

Execution & Delivery

• Own daily production performance against the master schedule
• Monitor WIP flow and eliminate bottlenecks
• Partner with Planning and Scheduling to prioritize work based on shipment commitments
• Ensure daily output aligns with monthly shipment targets
• Track and report schedule attainment and labor efficiency

Quality & Workmanship Discipline

• Enforce IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 3 and Space Addendum standards
• Ensure strict compliance with customer workmanship specifications
• Drive first-pass yield and reduce rework
• Support internal audits, customer audits, and corrective actions
• Maintain disciplined documentation and traveler integrity

Team Leadership & Development

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of high-skill operators
• Conduct daily tier meetings focused on safety, quality, and delivery
• Promote cross-training and workforce flexibility
• Reinforce accountability and performance standards

Continuous Improvement

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in aerospace, defense, or high-reliability manufacturing
• 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience
• Strong understanding of IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 3 (Space Addendum preferred)
• Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and build documentation
• Experience working within AS9100 environments
• Strong problem-solving skills and bias toward action

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting commercial space or launch vehicle programs
• Lean manufacturing experience
• ERP experience (Epicor preferred)
• Experience in controlled technical data environments (ITAR)

The Trainer will be responsible for developing and delivering training programs that enhance the skills, knowledge, and performance of our production and quality teams. This role plays a key part in ensuring that our manufacturing processes meet the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and consistency.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree in a related field preferred
• Certified IPC Trainer (CIT) preferred

Experience:

• Previous experience in training within a wire/cable harness assembly manufacturing setting required
• Previous experience reviewing and implementing customer-specific workmanship standards preferred
• Previous hands-on experience in cable/harness assembly desirable

Knowledge:

• IPC/WHMA-A-620 and J-STD-001 including Space Addendum required
• Familiarity with ISO 9001 and AS9100 requirements preferred

Skills:

• Strong knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship standards and general IPC assembly/inspection standards (e.g. soldering, wire/cable harness assembly, inspection criteria)
• Ability to translate Customer Workmanship standards to internal training documents
• Excellent communication, presentation, and instructional skills — able to train individuals at varying levels of experience
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, quality control standards, and production equipment utilized in wire/cable harness assembly
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Job Responsibilities

• Develop and Deliver Training:Design and implement comprehensive training programs for production and quality staff, including onboarding, process training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Create training materials, including work instructions, manuals, and visual aids.
• Conduct hands-on training sessions on manufacturing processes, equipment operation, and quality control standards.
• Cross-Department Collaboration:Work closely with production managers, supervisors, and quality assurance teams to identify training needs.
