As a Lead Registered Nurse at MercyOne, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations within the clinic, including staff coordination, process improvement, training, and troubleshooting. The role assists in managing workload assignments while ensuring smooth clinic operations and patient flow. General Requirements:

- Performs all the functions of a clinic RN as needed. Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and competency in all essential functions of various clerical roles within the clinic.
- Optimizes clinic operations, assisting with patient care, patient flow and facilitating communication amongst team members.
- Oversees staff scheduling, onboarding, and education. Assists with payroll, timekeeping, and performance management. Assists in training, orienting, and supporting staff within the referral management team.
- Recognizes and addresses issues, improving clinic flow and ensuring quality patient care. Responds to patient inquiries.
- Actively participates in meetings, leads huddles, ensuring adherence to safety, infection control, and departmental policies.
- Maintains supply inventory and order supplies as assigned.
- Provides leadership, ensuring appropriate staffing, training, and support for the clinical team.
- Collaborates with a variety of staff, leaders and providers to ensure delivery of quality patient care.
- Resolve complex patient concerns, inquiries, and escalate to management as appropriate.
- Monitors department operations, manages supplies, maintains confidentiality, and ensures compliance with laws, regulations, and organizational integrity.
- Leads or assists with quality assurance, staff development, and process improvement initiatives. Demonstrates proficiency in department-specific software and tools.
- Escalate non-routine issues, questions and/or concerns to the practice manager or healthcare provider(s).

Education:

General Requirements:

- Plans, assesses, intervenes, and provides direct patient care using critical thinking and nursing processes (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation).
- Performs comprehensive patient assessments (physical, psychosocial, nutritional, functional, safety, spiritual, cultural, educational). Makes nursing decisions based on patient status and care needs.
- Administers medications and treatments safely via multiple routes (oral, IM, SC, ID, IV, inhalation, topical, ocular, optic, sublingual, nasal) and documents accordingly.
- Performs nursing care, lab and diagnostic tests, specimen collection, phlebotomy, and limited radiology procedures following policies and universal precautions.
- Assists providers with patient care, phone/mail/fax communications, scheduling, consents, admissions, referrals, and outpatient procedures.
- Communicates and collaborates with physicians, staff, patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members regarding care plans and patient needs.
- Educates patients, families, and clinical staff on treatments, medications, test preparation, discharge, and health maintenance; documents education and evaluates understanding.
- Participates in staff meetings, committees, quality improvement, risk management, and performance improvement projects.
- Maintains documentation accuracy and completeness in EMR: assessments, vitals, symptoms, treatments, medications, education, charges, lab results, histories, and consults.
- Maintains and monitors supplies, equipment, medication stock, and office machines; follows maintenance and quality control protocols; reports malfunctions.
- Recognizes and responds appropriately to urgent/emergency patient needs and initiates emergency procedures.
- Other duties as needed and assigned by the manager.

About the Role
As a Medical Lab Scientist, you will play a vital role in supporting patient care by performing accurate and timely laboratory testing used in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Testing domains include waived, moderate, and high‑complexity procedures. Required: Blood Bank experience with waived, moderate, and high‑complexity testing in a clinical laboratory setting—through education or hands‑on work experience.

As a Registered Nurse at MercyOne, you will provide and direct safe, effective, and culturally competent care for patients with acute medical and surgical conditions. Through evidence-based practice, utilizes critical thinking to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate outcome-based care. The Acute Care RN manages a diverse patient population with varying levels of acuity, including post-operative, medical, telemetry, and neurologic patients. Supervises and coordinates care provided by LPNs, Patient Care Assistants, and other nursing team members. Facilitates communication with physicians, patients and families, and interdisciplinary team members. Adheres to MercyOne’s performance expectations and upholds the Mission, Vision, and Values of MercyOne.
Essential Functions:
Conducts assessment
Identifies patient problems and develops plan of care
Implements outcome/goal - based plan of care
Evaluates patient progress and revises the outcome/goal - based plan as needed
Communicates relevant clinical information to the team to optimize patient outcomes/goals
Demonstrates clinical competence
Manages telemetry and cardiac monitoring when applicable
Provides care appropriate to the age-related needs of the patients served on his/her assigned unit
Adheres to all safety, infection control and colleague health policies and procedures
Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.
Schedule:
PRN schedule
Nurses have the ability for self-scheduling
208 hours annually including twelve (12) weekend shifts, 2 holidays (1 winter/ 1 summer)
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate degree in nursing required
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Possession of a current or compact state licensure as a Registered Nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required
American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required only if the unit has telemetry monitoring capabilities
Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire
