Position Responsibilities:
- Develop, own and maintain the software architecture with focus on interface clarity, stability, and versioning to minimize integration risk, with a focus on production type software that is easily maintainable.
- Partner with appropriate stakeholders to inform system definition and oversee translation of system-level requirements into software requirements and models that meet customer, operational and performance requirements and have clear traceability to design, code and test artifacts.
- Manage supplier/subcontractor software deliverables to ensure they meet team processes and integration requirements.
- Lead the software engineering team's agile delivery: facilitate sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews/retrospectives, and remove impediments to flow.
- Serve as the Agile/Delivery lead for software—own backlog prioritization with product/system owners, define sprint goals, and ensure timely delivery of integration-ready increments.
- Define, document, and enforce software integration contracts (ICDs or equivalent living artifacts), data models, and message definitions in coordination with Integration & Test and Systems leads.
- Ensure software is designed for testability: require unit, component, integration, SIL/HIL test artifacts with code deliveries, include observability hooks, and ensure failures are diagnosable.
- Lead DevSecOps and CI/CD practices for the team: ensure pipelines support repeatable builds, automated testing, artifact traceability, and consistent deployments across dev, integration, and test environments.
- Collaborate with Integration & Test to align delivery cadence to integration increments and controlled configuration baselines.
- Drive verification & validation execution for software components: support development of test strategies, analyze test results, and triage defects with the team.
- Establish and track delivery metrics (velocity, cycle time, quality metrics, technical debt) and use them to improve predictability and quality.
- Coach and mentor engineers on agile practices, test automation, CI/CD, code quality, and observability.
- Contribute to risk and issue management that affects software delivery and integration readiness; escalate when necessary to protect integration milestones.
- Document integration results, test findings, and provide inputs for design reviews and readiness assessments.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):
- Bachelor's Degree in an engineering discipline or 22 years equivalent related experience
- Active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance, or clearance active within past 24 months (U.S. Citizenship required)
- 5+ years of experience in leading efforts in analyzing and translating requirements into system architecture, hardware and software designs and interface specifications
- Experience as an Agile Systems or Software Development Team Lead
- 5+ years of experience with the DevSecOps lifecycle
- 5+ years of experience of DevOps experience (Git, Jenkins, or other CI/CD tools)

The Senior Design Engineer is a team member of the EG Design group and is responsible for the process design of industrial gas, specialty gas and chemical systems for Air Liquide customers in the Electronics industry. This position is responsible for design development and project technical support starting at the conceptual phase through project execution and has mastered the skills needed to apply RAGAGEP (Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices), national codes and internal IMS standards to the project design. THE ROLE
You'll lead the entire software development team — full responsibility for daily operations, performance management, and career development. You report directly to the CTO. You'll be expected to own execution while aligning closely with engineering leadership on process and standards. This is a people-and-process leadership role, not an architecture or project management position. Those functions exist separately in the organization.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
People Management
• Directly manage all software developers - daily presence, daily accountability
• Own performance management: goal setting, reviews, coaching, PIPs when necessary
• Drive career development and individual growth plans
• Handle difficult conversations directly - this is the job, not a side effect of it
• Build a culture of ownership, craftsmanship, and professional accountability
Sprint Operations & Delivery
• Run sprint planning, standups, reviews, and retrospectives
• Enforce sprint commitments — manage scope creep and prevent mid-sprint pivots
• Assign developers to projects based on skills, capacity, and priority
• Ensure all work entering a sprint has a signed-off PRD, ready for work, and confirmed capacity
Quality & Release Management
• Enforce Definition of Done at ticket and release level
• Own code freeze discipline - hard dates
• Partner with QA leadership on release quality gates
• Maintain release cadence
• Build and maintain dashboards: velocity, rework rate, escaped defects, code freeze compliance
Cross-Functional
• Coordinate with architecture, QA, and sprint operations functions
• Provide weekly status to CTO: velocity, quality, blockers, upcoming releases
• Interface on resource allocation, hiring, and organizational strategy

WHAT WE NEED
This role requires genuine technical depth. You'll be managing experienced engineers who expect their leader to understand what they're building. We need someone who has spent years writing production code and architecting systems before moving into leadership - someone who chose management, not someone who defaulted to it.
Required:
• BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent technical degree (Mathematics, Engineering) — no exceptions
• 10+ years of professional software development experience including production coding and system architecture
• 3+ years managing development teams of 15+ people
• Ability to review architecture decisions, challenge bad estimates, and hold technical standards
• Proven track record in performance management and difficult conversations
• Experience with Agile/Scrum ownership (not just participation), release management, and quality gate enforcement and continuous delivery and kanban
• Multiple companies/environments - not a single-company career
• Local to the greater Philadelphia area. In-office minimum Monday, Wednesday, Friday.

Preferred:
• Healthcare technology, patient safety, or regulated industry experience (HIPAA, HITRUST)
• Experience managing teams with mixed skill levels - senior self-directed engineers alongside junior developers needing daily guidance

Theoris Services is assisting our client in their search for a Data/Software Engineer to add to their growing team. Our client is seeking someone with data visualization experience and software engineering (create reusable libraries, best practices, troubleshooting).
Responsibilities:
- Data Pipeline & Backend Development
- Design, build, and optimize scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes to integrate and harmonize scientific data (compounds, assays, experiments) from 30+ heterogeneous sources.
- Implement and maintain lakehouse architectures on AWS (S3, Glue, Athena, Iceberg) to support multibillion-record datasets.
- Develop federated query capabilities using Trino (or similar distributed engines) for unified access across platforms like PostgreSQL, Snowflake, and others.
- Build robust backend services, RESTful APIs, and data services using Python (FastAPI, Flask preferred) to enable seamless data flow and integration with scientific tools (e.g., Benchling, computational chemistry systems, AI/ML endpoints).
- Performance Optimization & Troubleshooting
- Optimize query and database performance for complex analytical workloads across PostgreSQL, Iceberg, Trino, and other platforms.
- Implement caching, indexing, and query tuning techniques to improve response times and scalability as data volumes and user bases grow.
- Apply reverse engineering and advanced troubleshooting skills to debug complex data issues, pipeline bottlenecks, application failures, and performance problems proactively.
- Monitor systems, identify root causes, and implement fixes for data and application reliability.
- Data Visualization & User-Facing Analytics
- Design and develop interactive dashboards, visual analytics, and scientific data visualizations using Power BI and Spotfire (or equivalent tools).
- Create reusable visualization components and data-rich UIs (React/TypeScript preferred) to enable scientists to search, filter, explore, and interpret complex datasets—including dose-response curves, chemical structures, and analytical results.
- Translate scientific and engineering data into clear, actionable visual insights for researchers and stakeholders.
- Software Engineering & Quality Practices
- Apply best software engineering practices: modular/reusable design, clean code principles, code reviews, comprehensive documentation, and creation of maintainable libraries/services.
- Write high-quality unit, integration, and end-to-end tests; use mock data effectively to create reliable automated test cases and ensure code stability.
- Implement CI/CD pipelines for automated testing, deployment, and monitoring on AWS (EC2, ECS, Lambda, S3).
- Collaborate on full-stack features from database to frontend, ensuring end-to-end functionality, security (SSO/LDAP), and performance.
- Collaboration & Governance
- Partner with scientists, UX designers, and cross-functional teams to gather requirements, conduct user testing, and iterate on usability.
- Implement data validation, quality checks, metadata management, and governance to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Contribute to engineering best practices and foster a culture of quality and scalability.
Requirements:
- Education & Experience

- 3+ years of professional experience in data engineering, full-stack development, or closely related roles.
- Proven track record of building and delivering production-grade data pipelines, platforms, and/or user-facing scientific applications.
- Technical Skills
- Programming: Intermediate to strong proficiency in Python (core for pipelines, backend, and data manipulation with pandas/PySpark); familiarity with JavaScript/TypeScript for frontend.
- Data Engineering: Hands-on experience creating scalable pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and distributed processing (Spark, Trino/Presto).
- Databases & Querying: Deep expertise in relational databases (PostgreSQL), modern warehouses (Snowflake, Redshift), and query engines; strong focus on query performance improvement and optimization.
- Cloud Platforms: Practical experience with AWS services (S3, Glue, Athena, Lambda, RDS, EC2/ECS).
- Data Visualization: Proven experience with Power BI and Spotfire (or similar) for scientific and analytical dashboards/visualizations.
