The Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist performs phlebotomy and specimen collection. They use Lab Information System (LIS) and Hospital Information System (HIS) to conduct functions related to phlebotomy, patient registration, order entry, result look-up and report generation. They process specimens for diagnostic testing and referral testing and sort specimen drop-offs according to insurance. They ensure accurate registration of specimens as needed.

The Instrument Readiness Specialist provides operational and technical support for LC-MS, HPLC, and
GC-MS laboratories at Customer facilities in Delaware. This role is responsible for routine instrument
operation, sample preparation support, preventive maintenance, performance monitoring, and
compliant documentation in accordance with Customer-defined SOPs, validated methods, and
regulatory requirements. The position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to work
independently in a laboratory environment, and effective collaboration with Customer scientists and
project stakeholders to ensure reliable analytical operations.
Job Responsibilities:
• Provide hands-on operational support for LC-MS, HPLC, and GC-MS instrumentation at
Customer facilities, including the DuPont Experimental Station (Wilmington, DE) and New
Castle, DE, in accordance with Customer-defined SOPs, validated methods, and applicable
compliance requirements.
• Perform routine operation of analytical systems, including instrument startup and shutdown,
method loading, sequence and sample queue setup, data acquisition, and basic system
checks.
• Support sample preparation activities such as dilution, extraction, filtration, derivatization (as
applicable), reagent preparation, consumable selection, and proper sample labeling following
Customer-approved procedures.
• Monitor and assess instrument performance, including chromatographic stability, pressure
and flow profiles, vacuum system performance, detector response, ion source condition,
mass accuracy, and column integrity; promptly communicate deviations or abnormal trends
to Customer stakeholders.
• Conduct routine preventive maintenance and system upkeep, including solvent and mobile
phase preparation, degassing, tubing and fitting inspection, leak checks, column flushing,
injector and ion source cleaning, vacuum pump monitoring, tuning verification, and routine
calibration in alignment with manufacturer recommendations and Customer requirements.
• Support day-to-day laboratory operations, including equipment readiness, workflow
coordination, and effective communication with Customer project leads and local
stakeholders.
• Comply with all site-specific safety, laboratory access, emergency response, and
environmental health requirements; participate in required safety, EHS, and instrumentation
training programs.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of instrument usage, maintenance activities,
experimental observations, deviations, and corrective actions in accordance with Customer
documentation practices and data integrity standards.
• Prepare and provide analytical summaries, instrument performance logs, and status updates
as requested or defined by project timelines.
• Ensure proper archiving of raw data, chromatographic results, mass spectral files, electronic
logs, and supporting documentation within Customer systems.
• Document and escalate deviations, nonconformances, or unexpected findings in a timely
manner and support quality assurance, audit readiness, and inspection activities related to

- Maintains laboratory skills, training, and qualification standards related to the procedures and processes required to support a knowledgeable and effective work force
- Develops laboratory procedures as required
- Performs all analyses as defined in the Laboratory Procedures Manuals and Quality manuals
- Participates with other Lab Chemist/Analysts in troubleshooting problems with procedures and equipment
- Responsible for conducting quality control and environmental lab sampling, as well as verifying the accuracy of field operations lab sampling results
- Supports quality system through statistical verification of the operability and accuracy of instruments
- Performs the necessary duties to maintain housekeeping in the laboratory
- Initiates corrective action for process, safety, or environmental deficiencies
- Understands the use and location of emergency equipment in the laboratory and sampling locations
- Understands the emergency procedures as outlined in the Emergency Response Plan and related laboratory procedures
- Conducts each operation in accordance with the Chemical Hygiene Plan
- Knows the types of personal protective equipment available and when and where to use it
- Ensures that all samples and chemicals are properly labeled
- Supports and performs the laboratory service function to include: storage of product samples, packaging and shipping samples, stockroom services to the laboratory and plant, and sampling services; along with maintenance of lab instruments and equipment
- Ensures a high level of internal and external customer service. Reports and follows up on customer issues and complaints, as appropriate
- Provides attention to detail, and dedication to work, in order to ensure reliability of the work site as well as a high-quality product
- Assists with special projects as requested and work schedules allow

POSITION SUMMARY
This position assists technical lab staff and may be responsible for the collection, receipt, and processing of biological specimens into the department, preparation of samples for analytical testing, and may perform waived and/or limited moderate complexity testing if CLIA minimum requirements are met or as approved by the CLIA Medical Director. This position reports to department leadership and takes direction from higher-level technical personnel.
Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. May process and prepare patient samples as required to include the following: 1) specimen collection, ensuring correct patient and specimen identification and specimen integrity 2) general laboratory specimen processing and 3) referral laboratory processing. May perform waived and moderate complexity testing under direct supervision while meeting performance standards and knowledge level determined for the approved testing. Demonstrates an understanding of the computer systems used in the department. Tracks and locates missing specimens while monitoring pending lists. Performs maintenance activities on laboratory equipment as directed. Demonstrates awareness and conforms with accrediting agency and regulatory requirements related to their area of responsibility.
2. Focuses on quality by ensuring that all work performed is accurate, complete and within the time frames defined by the department. Meets department standards for productivity and quality. May perform quality control for testing as directed by technical staff, basic troubleshooting and communicate technical concerns to technical staff. Participates in detecting and documenting occurrences that deviate from defined procedures. Follows established methods and practices and demonstrates basic problem-solving skills with QC, testing and computer issues and maintains acceptable specimen rejection rates, if applicable.
3. Participates in departmental financial responsibilities through the appropriate use of supplies and materials and assists with inventory management. Participates in department initiatives to reduce costs and improve service.
4. Performs miscellaneous support duties as defined by the department, which may include phlebotomy and training. May contribute to the updates of training documents and procedures.
5. Communicates courteously, professionally, effectively, and accurately with internal and external customers. Demonstrates skills for basic computer inquiry and problem solving, and use of communication equipment. Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills. Promotes positive communications that enhance teamwork. Attendance and participation at staff meetings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or equivalent and must be 18 years or older if performing phlebotomy.
- Progression through career ladder II-IV is subject to completion of career ladder requirements.
- Position may require DHS Fingerprinting Certification or the ability to obtain fingerprint certification.
- Dependent on department/location, candidate must possess a valid state driver's license in the state of employment and be eligible for coverage under the company auto insurance policy.
- Phlebotomy/CLA certification as defined by state regulations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous clinical laboratory experience.
- Successful completion of a laboratory assistant program.
- Basic knowledge of specimen requirements and handling.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Additional related education and/or experience.
