Compensation

                 Total Compensation Target: $120,000 - $150,000+ annually

                 Base Salary: $80,000 - $90,000 annually

                 Bonus is tied to:

·      Operational Contribution Margin (OCM)

·      On-Time Delivery (OTD)

·      Quantity Returned Rate (QRR)

·      CEO Evaluation

Role Overview

The Director of Operations owns Operational Contribution Margin (OCM) through disciplined execution of production, purchasing, labor efficiency, scrap control, supplier accountability, and on-time delivery performance.

This is a hands-on leadership role in a growing manufacturing company. The Director of Operations is directly responsible for protecting and improving margin by eliminating operational waste, enforcing purchasing discipline, improving production flow, and holding suppliers and internal teams accountable.

This position holds full authority over production scheduling, purchasing strategy, supplier performance, incoming quality enforcement, inventory discipline, and backlog management.

Success in this role is measured by Operational Contribution Margin, quality control, and reliable on-time delivery.

What This Role Must Know

A successful candidate should have strong working knowledge of:

  • Manufacturing process flow and bottleneck identification
  • Production scheduling and throughput management
  • Purchasing discipline and supplier accountability
  • Inventory control and working capital management
  • Quality control and defect reduction systems
  • Operational margin drivers within a manufacturing environment
  • Lean operational principles and practical process improvement
  • Basic financial literacy, including cost drivers and margin impact

This role requires the ability to translate operational improvements directly into financial performance.

What This Role Must Be Comfortable With

The right person for this role is comfortable with:

  • Owning operational results end-to-end
  • Working inside a small business environment where systems must be built and improved
  • Making decisions with incomplete information and solving problems quickly
  • Managing both production personnel and supplier relationships
  • Implementing operational discipline and accountability across the shop floor
  • Balancing operational efficiency with product quality and delivery performance
  • Being directly responsible for measurable operational performance metrics
  • Leading operational improvement initiatives rather than maintaining the status quo

This role is best suited for someone who prefers building and improving systems rather than simply maintaining existing processes.

Candidate Profile

The strongest candidates for this role typically come from environments where they have:

  • Managed manufacturing operations or production systems
  • Driven measurable improvements in efficiency, quality, or margin
  • Implemented process improvements in growing manufacturing organizations
  • Demonstrated the ability to take ownership of operational performance

This is a hands-on operational leadership role, not a purely administrative position.

Compensation

Compensation includes a competitive base salary plus a performance-based bonus tied directly to Operational Contribution Margin, Quantity Return Rate (QRR), and on-time delivery metrics.

This structure rewards disciplined operational leadership and measurable financial improvement.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Experience leading production in a small-to-mid-sized manufacturing environment
  • Has personally owned purchasing and supplier accountability
  • Has implemented measurable scrap reduction and efficiency improvements
  • Comfortable working without corporate support infrastructure
  • Thinks in terms of financial outcomes, not just operational activity
  • Speaks in numbers and measurable results
  • Demonstrates ownership mentality and accountability

What Success Looks Like

Within 6–12 months:

  • Operational Contribution Margin stabilizes and improves
  • Scrap is measured and trending downward
  • Purchasing is consolidated and disciplined
  • Supplier credits are tracked and recovered
  • Backlog is stable and predictable with lead time improvement
  • CEO operational involvement is significantly reduced

This is a leadership role for someone who wants ownership, accountability, and the opportunity to materially impact a growing manufacturing company.

Where it all began…

In 1951 SF Fire Credit Union first opened its doors from a modest 10′ × 15′ office space in 17 Engine. It was from those humble beginnings—where everyone pitched in to help one another in their community—that the organization forged its way of business forever. Today, the San Francisco-based credit union has grown to $1.7B in assets and a membership that extends from the regional firefighters we trace our roots back to throughout our many neighbors in San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin Counties. Our members benefit from the ideas and principles that have shaped us: Shared trust, continuous innovation of products and services, competitive rates, and excellent member service. These qualities foster a true sense of member-ownership and strengthen the credit union’s bond with the people for whom this credit union was created.

What we stand for…

There are a few things we look for those we hire at SF Fire Credit Union, regardless of role or team.

First, do they align with our values?

Be Personal – Walk the Member/Employee Path

Be Real – Integrity and Transparency Matter

Be the Connection – Serve our Community

Second, will they thrive in a culture like ours, where we default to trust, embrace feedback, and desire to innovate? Finally, do they share our vision to help empower members to accomplish their dreams and build lasting financial security in whatever way is most relevant to their role?

We value a good sense of humor, are motivated by a higher purpose, and always bring an “in-this-together” attitude. While we’re driven to do great work, we also value real work/life balance.

  • Lead PCR kit manufacturing, including scaling production of multiplex dPCR and qPCR panels incorporating our proprietary chemistry (enzymes, formulations, and reagents); manage supply chain/vendor relationships, inventory, lot-to-lot consistency, and quality to meet demand from CLIA labs, academics, municipalities, and public health partners.
  • Optimize operations for microbiology and high-risk testing services, with emphasis on routine wastewater surveillance for pathogens and small molecules (e.g., illicit drugs) using our ultrasensitive dPCR platform and proprietary chemistry in CLIA/high-complexity labs; drive high-throughput workflow efficiency, capacity planning during volume surges, 24–48 hour turnaround, chain-of-custody, and biosafety (BSL-2+) compliance.
  • Drive technology transfer from R&D to Operations (including new dPCR assays and chemistry enhancements) and oversee implementation of LIMS systems to enhance throughput, data management, and process automation.
  • Collaborate closely with the part-time CLIA consultant (serving as Laboratory Director) and lab teams to integrate lab ops with company-wide processes—focusing on throughput, cost control, resource allocation, and non-technical scaling during growth phases.
  • Oversee quality systems and regulatory compliance (CLIA, CAP, ISO 13485, FDA EUA/IVD pathways, or similar highly regulated environments a strong plus), risk management, and continuous improvement across manufacturing and services, ensuring proprietary chemistry integrity and assay performance.
  • Drive cross-functional alignment (e.g., quality, facilities, IT, automation, project management) with R&D, sales, bioinformatics, and finance to support revenue growth, forecast needs, and enable new service lines (e.g., deep sequencing and PFAS/environmental testing).
  • Build and mentor a growing operations team (production, lab ops, logistics, quality) with experience scaling high-throughput operations preferred.
  • Implement tools to eliminate bottlenecks, drive cost/efficiency gains, and manage budgets effectively.

Qualifications

  • 8–12+ years of progressive operations leadership in life sciences, ideally in molecular diagnostics, genomics, PCR/NGS manufacturing, clinical/reference labs, or biotech services.
  • Leadership of high-throughput core facilities (e.g., NGS, mass spectrometry, proteomics, or molecular diagnostics cores) is a plus, with hands-on experience NGS, PCR multiplex assays, proprietary enzyme/chemistry platforms, pathogen/small molecule detection, technology transfer, and LIMS implementation also valued.
  • At least a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Biological sciences, Chemistry); PhD, HCLD certification, or MBA preferred.
  • Direct experience with validating and introducing molecular assays into a production environment.
  • Strong knowledge of regulated workflows and quality/regulatory standards (CLIA/CAP, ISO 15189/13485, FDA oversight, or multi-site lab management a plus).
  • Proven ability to deliver fast turnaround in service labs and scale production without compromising quality.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills; comfortable working with scientific founders/CEOs and empowering technical teams.
  • Fort Collins/Colorado-based or willing to relocate; excited about public health impact and the collaborative foothills lifestyle.

What We Offer

Visalia, CA 2 days ago

Job Title: Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)

Company Overview: Kaweah Health is dedicated to providing exceptional healthcare services to the community. The organization prides itself on a humble and flat structure, where leadership is approachable, and collaboration is highly valued. Kaweah Health has achieved significant accomplishments, including recognition for high-performing maternity care, delivering 4700 babies annually, and possessing programs that rank in the top 50/100 nationally. The culture emphasizes high expectations, accountability, pride in work, and a commitment to excellence and compassion in all endeavors.

Position Overview: Kaweah Health is seeking a visionary and experienced Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to provide administrative oversight and strategic leadership for all nursing practice and services. This pivotal role involves shaping the future of nursing at the organization, ensuring patient safety, fostering a collaborative environment, and developing a high-functioning nursing team. The ideal candidate will be a compassionate leader with strong clinical expertise and a proven ability to drive positive change and achieve measurable improvements in patient care and staff retention.

Primary Responsibilities:

The CNO will articulate and execute a clear vision for nursing that prioritizes patient safety and fundamental nursing practices. They will mitigate the challenges of a novice nursing workforce by investing in skill development through leaders and the education department. A key responsibility is to create a culture that promotes retention among nurses by fostering a supportive and growth-oriented environment. The role demands setting and maintaining high expectations and standards for nursing care, consistently emphasizing compassion and safe practices. Furthermore, the CNO will foster stronger partnerships and open communication between nurses and physicians, actively working to mend existing friction and rebuild collaborative relationships.

Key Qualifications and Skills:

The successful candidate will be a highly capable and experienced leader with strong leadership skills and deep clinical expertise. They must possess the ability to articulate a compelling vision for nursing and effectively execute fundamental skills training initiatives. A collaborative style, open to input and feedback from teams, is essential. The CNO must demonstrate a strong belief in and consistent application of compassion in leadership. This individual needs to be a visionary with a broad perspective on what is both possible and realistic for the organization and the community. Finally, the CNO must be approachable and humble, embodying a "person of the people" attitude.

Certifications or Educational Requirements:

Candidates must be a Registered Nurse (RN) and hold a Master's (MSN) or a Doctor prepared nurse degree.

Ideal Experience Level:

The CNO should possess clinical experience as a former nurse, ideally having worked in critical care units such as the ICU, to demonstrate a deep understanding of clinical challenges and possibilities. Experience in assessing an organization, articulating a future vision, gaining buy-in and consensus, and successfully executing plans is crucial. A proven ability to improve objective measures such as infection rates, serious medical events, and patient experience scores is highly desired. The candidate should have experience in fostering consistent unit cultures that align with the organization's mission and vision, as well as a track record of improving nurse and physician communication and collaboration.

Team and Reporting Structure:

The CNO will be an integral part of the executive team and will report directly to Marc Mertz, the CEO. This role will collaborate closely with leaders and directors within the nursing department, the education department, physicians (including the chief of staff and medical directors on the units), the executive team, and the board.

Key Priorities in the First Six Months:

The CNO's top three priorities in the initial six months include rapidly assessing the current state of nursing at Kaweah Health and articulating a clear vision for its future, focusing on fundamental skills and hands-on training for nurses. A major priority is developing clinical professionals' skills and creating a supportive culture that improves retention. The CNO must also actively foster collaboration and improve nurse-physician communication, working to mend friction and build stronger partnerships through open dialogue.

Challenges and Opportunities:

This role offers a significant opportunity to shape and build a high-functioning nursing team from the ground up, bringing together scattered organizational components. The CNO has the chance to instill a culture of compassion, excellence, and continuous improvement, aligning with the CEO's vision for Kaweah Health. There is also an opportunity to increase external recruitment to introduce diverse experience and talent, balancing it with internal growth pathways. The CNO can leverage the CEO's commitment to high expectations, accountability, and pride in work to drive substantial organizational change.

KPIs for Success:

Success in this role will be measured by objective indicators such as a reduction in infection rates on the units, a decrease in serious medical events, and an improvement in patient experience scores. Cultural and relational measures include achieving consistency in culture across different units, fostering positive reactions from nurses when the CNO is present on the unit, and establishing stronger, more open partnerships and communication with physicians. This will be evidenced by a reduction in complaints through systems like Midus and improved scores in employee and physician engagement surveys regarding nurse-physician communication.

Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate will possess deep compassion, demonstrating a strong belief in treating patients and colleagues with care, recognizing its impact on healing and employee well-being. Collaboration is essential, requiring the ability to engage leaders and nurses in discussions, solicit feedback, and build consensus. The CNO must be approachable, humble, and able to connect with individuals at all organizational levels. A visionary mindset is crucial, enabling the articulation of a clear future for nursing at the organization while considering what is possible and realistic. Strong leadership skills are necessary to guide and develop a team, particularly a novice nursing workforce.

Advantageous experience includes "clinical chops," meaning practical, hands-on experience as a former nurse, ideally in critical areas like the ICU, to deeply understand the realities and challenges of patient care.
