We are seeking a Physician Assistant - Surgery - Cardiovascular & Thoracic for an exciting 126-day assignment with our client in Indiana. Starting Mar 30, 2026, this role involves 7p-7a shifts focusing on daily inpatient rounds, new consults, and patient discharges, managing an average of 10-15 patients within a total census of 20-30.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Perform daily rounding on all inpatients, including those in ICU and stepdown units.
- Conduct new patient consults and manage patient discharges.
- Manage an average daily patient load of 10-15, with a total census typically ranging from 20-30 patients.
- Address critical care needs for cardiac cases including adult cardiac surgeries (CAB, valves, aortic dissections), high-acuity patients, and very sick individuals.
- Handle thoracic surgeries, primarily robotic procedures but also VATs and thoracotomies, covering all thoracic surgeries except esophageal procedures (e.g., lobectomies, wedge resections, decortications, mediastinal mass).
- Manage open vascular surgeries, such as CEA, AAA, and leg revascularizations.
- Provide care for heart failure patients, including those with LVAD, ECMO, and Impella devices.
- Focus strictly on critical care; this role does not include first assist duties.

About the Cardiothoracic Surgeon Position
The Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin, in partnership with Ascension Texas, is seeking a skilled and dedicated Cardiothoracic Surgeon to join the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery.
Faculty in the division will be members of the Institute for Cardiovascular Health, representing an integrated heart care model.
Eligible applicants will be fellowship trained and board certified (or board eligible within five years of completion of fellowship) in cardiothoracic surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
We seek individuals with excellent clinical skills, a passion for education, the potential for scholarly contributions, and a commitment to excellence to join a dynamic department in an innovative, growing medical school.
Essential Functions :
Provision of clinical care to patients with cardiovascular disease as part of a multidisciplinary cardiovascular and thoracic surgical team
Medical student and resident education
Participation in clinical, health services, translational or basic science research.

Full clinic day = patients. If patient needs a biopsy, they do it same-say in-office so their patient numbers are not as high as some practices.
Thyroid biopsies and thyroid aspirations are not required of the new surgeon. Surgeon likes to do these and kept this part of her general surgery practice.
Procedures in-office: ultrasound, stereotactic biopsies, aspirations, incision and drainage, some minor excisional surgery with local anesthesia
Payer mix: 60% Blue Cross, 30% Medicare, 5% United Health Care, 5% all others. Do not accept Medicaid. Do take AL Breast & Cervical Early Detection Program with the Department of Health. It is federally funded for the uninsured and underinsured.
Rounds required only on post-operative patients for discharge management. No unattached or general surgery call.
Would anticipate call coverage of personal patients with cross-coverage schedule worked out for vacation/out-of-town times.

· Certifications Required: Board Eligible, Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Life Support (PALS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
