Senior Structural Engineer – Substation

As a Senior Structural Engineer – Substation, you’ll lead projects end-to-end—from conceptual design through construction—ensuring safe, efficient, and code-compliant structural systems that support vital energy operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead structural design for substation and transmission infrastructure projects
• Oversee full project lifecycle: concept, design, execution, and construction support
• Perform and review structural analysis and design (steel, foundations, etc.)
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across engineering, procurement, and construction
• Ensure compliance with industry codes and standards
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development
• Review drawings, calculations, and engineering documentation

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or related field (ABET-accredited)
• 8–15 years of structural engineering experience (EPC experience preferred)
• Strong expertise in:
• Steel design & foundation design
• Structural analysis tools (RISA, STAAD Pro)
• Deep knowledge of codes and standards: AISC, ASCE 7, IBC, ACI
• Proven experience leading projects and managing cross-functional teams
• Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Professional Engineer (PE) license highly preferred

Nice to Have

• Experience in transmission & distribution infrastructure
• Substation structural design (including drilled shafts and steel structures)
• Experience managing project scope, schedules, and budgets
• Vendor coordination and field inspection experience

Preferred Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or Engineering Technology (Master’s a plus)
• FE exam completed
• 7+ years of experience in structural engineering within EPC or power industry environments

The Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree

GP Strategies Government Solutions has an immediate need for an Aircraft Structures Instructor to support a large aerospace client in St. Louis, MO. We are seeking candidates who are able to conduct training covering a broad range of structures subject matter including, but not limited to: Heavy Structures, Drill and Fill, Fastener Install and Removal, Bond and Ground and Sealing. This is a full-time, temporary position with an approximate end date of 12/31/25.

Job Summary:

• Conducts and performs training or solutions using the appropriate medium and method (classroom, computer-based training [CBT], distance learning, simulations, on-the-job [OJT], coaching, job-aids) to satisfy business needs and requirements.
• Assesses and tests the competence of employees in performing tasks requiring certification or qualification to comply with government and organizational standards and specifications.
• Expert in navigating technical documents related to manufacturing / repair documents and/or blueprints (detail, assembly or installation drawings).
• Confers with management/client to understand work situation.
• Delivers training sessions covering specified areas of technical specialty.
• Evaluates training programs and reports on trainee progress.
• Maintains training programs and materials.
• Prepare training areas to be teach ready

Qualifications:

• Education, training and prior aerospace experience in structures including but not limited to Heavy Structures, Drill and Fill, Fastener Install and Removal, Bond and Ground and Sealing preferred
• Presentation skills or training/teaching background/experience
• Ability to travel 10-15% if needed

Position Responsibilities:

• Review daily reports and consult with team leaders to determine job assignments and obtain necessary documentation.

• Locate work areas using specified drawings and paperwork.

• Verify kitted parts against installation plans and bill of materials, ensuring they are suitable and defect-free.

• Retrieve non-kitted parts from designated areas, ensuring compliance with specifications.

• Use electronic devices to access work instructions and engineering data (personal cell phones not permitted).

• Select and utilize appropriate hand and power tools for assembly tasks, including precision alignment equipment.

• Move kits, carts, and equipment within the work cell as needed.

• Load/unload jigs and operate mechanical lifts for assembly work.

• Locate tools and parts on aircraft using specified methods and set up assembly tools per instructions.

• Handle hazardous materials safely and dispose of them properly.

• Inspect completed work for defects and cleanliness before submission for inspection.

• Perform minor rework and maintain tool control in accordance with procedures.

• Maintain personal and tool certifications and seek assistance from supervisors when necessary.

• Set up tools and equipment for drilling and fastener installation in complex structures.

• Operate various hand and machine tools, monitoring equipment functionality and performing routine maintenance.

• Coordinate the movement and preparation of materials and tools for tasks.

• Cut, file, drill, and assemble parts, ensuring proper fitting and quality standards.

• Conduct reaming, riveting, and sealing operations, applying corrosion inhibitors as needed.

• Utilize calibrated tools to verify work against specifications and ensure quality.

• Manage equipment and materials within the work cell to ensure efficient workflow.

Physical Demands and Potential Hazards:

• Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging from 10-15 lbs to 15-35 lbs.

• Engage in various movements such as reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting.

• Work in environments that may involve contact with metals, solvents, and coolants.

Basic Qualifications:

• 1+ years of experience working with mechanical or structures related statements of work; such as construction, aerospace, automotive, maritime or similar industry; this can include education and military.

• 1+ years of experience using high impact vibratory tools; such as bucking/riveting. 

• Ability to walk constantly throughout the workday; stand 6-8 hours per day; climb or work from stairs/steps up to 8 hours per day; climb ladders; bend and twist frequently up to six hours per day; squat and kneel.

• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
