STAT DIESEL ENG OPER/MECH Big Cypress Basin Fld Station 4563BR Job Description Operates, maintains, and overhauls stationary diesel engines, electric pump motors, large pumps, ancillary machinery, and fueling systems including tank maintenance and equipment at local/remote pumping stations.
Operator must have the aptitude to operate pumps and equipment using computerized software at both local and remote operating stations from a centralized location.
Performs preventative maintenance of diesel engines, main pumps, generators, compressors, travel screens, raw water intake, and trash rake.
Detects, diagnoses, repairs, and reports machinery and equipment malfunctions using a computer maintenance-based system (SAP).
Utilizes basic mathematical skills to compute water elevations using various data.
Ability to read and comprehend construction drawings, specifications, and SOP’s to understand operations of pumping stations, piping systems, and machinery layout.
Maintains a manual and electronic history of machinery equipment and water conditions, using Excel and SAP, a work order-based software.
Performs maintenance on pump station buildings and grounds, including, but not limited to, general housekeeping, pressure cleaning, and painting, as well as minor structural repairs.
This position is subject to random mandatory drug and alcohol testing.
Other duties as assigned.
Work hours are Monday – Thursday from 6:00 a.m.
– 4:30 p.m.
Work location: Big Cypress Basin Field Station, Naples FL Maybe filled at the lower position of Field Operations Worker.
Entry-level position as an apprentice/support position, tasked with performing various light to heavy manual labor tasks in support of pump station maintenance and pumping operations.
Physical stamina and strength are important requirements necessary to perform required activities.
The hiring range for this position is $47,257.60 to $51,937.60 (based on education and years of relevant work experience).
Employment Guidelines Stationary Diesel Engine Operator/Mechanic: High School Diploma or GED and 2+ years of experience in the operation and maintenance of diesel engines.
Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
The hiring range for this position is $55,328.00 to $63,086.40 (based on education and years of relevant work experience).
Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Field Operations Worker: High school diploma or GED.
0-2 years of experience in equipment operation, or manual and skilled labor work.
The hiring range for this position is $47,257.60 to $51,937.60 (based on education and years of relevant work experience).
Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
License Stationary Diesel Engine Operator/Mechanic: Valid State of Florida Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) without restriction to operate vehicle equipped with airbrakes and manual transmission.
If selected candidate does not currently possess CDL, the District will provide 2 months from date of hire to obtain CDL Learner's Permit and 6 months to obtain CDL.
District is willing to pay cost of CDL training program.
Ability to obtain and maintain certifications in Forklift Operations Certification and First Aid/CPR/AED.
Field Operations Worker: Valid State of Florida Driver's License (Required) Forklift Operations Certification (Required) First Aid/CPR/AED (Required) Ability to obtain all licenses and certifications required to work within assigned program area.
(Training or funding for required training to be provided by SFWMD).
(Required) This position may be required to participate in the Pumping Operations Program as either a Pump Station Assistant (PSA) or a Pump Station Operator (PSO).
(Required) Physical Requirements/Working Environment Due to the District's response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at times, be required to provide support before, during, and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on assigned emergency response role.
Overtime will be required based on weather and/or environmental conditions.
Primarily works inside during pumping operations and outside maintaining equipment and facility.
Some exposure to unpredictable weather conditions.
May work various shifts covering 24 hours a day seven days a week.
Regularly sets up, adjusts, tests, and operates equipment to complete assignments.
Work environment may be hot and humid with no facilities.
Moves or otherwise transports equipment weighing up to 50 pounds or more.
