As a Displays Software Engineer at Reliable Robotics, you will be a part of the remote piloting software team. This team is responsible for building the pilot-facing application software that is used to command the aircraft's advanced automation systems - both onboard, and remotely. You will join a team of interdisciplinary and mission-driven engineers with experience across aerospace, robotics, and self-driving vehicles.

Responsibilities

In your role as a Displays Software Engineer, your primary focus will be designing, architecting, and building a variety of real-time user interface applications for controlling our automated aircraft systems. These can range from real-time embedded UIs on aviation-grade hardware to browser-based applications. All of these applications will support our work to build a fully certified system in multiple ways: they will serve as a platform for rapidly prototyping different workflows and designs; they will be directly used in our ongoing experimental test flight programs; and they will ultimately serve as a reference implementation for our certified displays and controls. You will have ownership over the entire lifecycle of these applications, and will work with software engineers and designers within the team, as well as systems engineers and pilots to build systems that are safe, user-centered, and certifiable.

Basic Success Criteria

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience

• 5+ years of experience developing user-facing software for high-performance or mission-critical applications

• 5+ years professional experience in C or C++

Preferred Criteria

• Experience with DO-178C

• Thorough understanding of computer architecture, operating systems and networking

• Expertise developing user-facing software requirements and following graphical specifications

• Experience with human-in-the-loop testing and certification campaigns

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is accountable for providing technical support for the assigned processes and equipment to operations. This position requires deep expertise in programming liquid handlers, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate effectively across all organizational levels. The role will evaluate and deploy new liquid handling technology and processes through proof-of-concept testing, feasibility evaluation, systems engineering controls, verification, characterization, and validation of solutions in a regulated GMP environment.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Own implementation of liquid handling automation systems in regulated lab and manufacturing settings
• Develop complex automation scripts and recovery methods for new assays/workflows, including error handling, custom liquid classes, water/simulation runs, and data analysis
• Apply problem-solving skills to work through technical challenges and overcome roadblocks in system deployment
• Validate automated applications to ensure accuracy, precision, and repeatability for automated workflows
• Drive process development and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system performance and end customer experience
• Provide ongoing technical support and troubleshooting for protocols and instrumentation
• Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation including training materials and internal process guides
• Maintain professional relationships with customers and colleagues, serving as a trusted technical advisor
• Deliver basic and advanced software and hardware training to internal customers
• Influence project and program level decisions at critical interfaces to other disciplines
• Stay current with industry developments, emerging technologies, and regulatory expectations to guide long-term automation strategy

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or Systems Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of related experience; OR
• Master's degree with a minimum of 3 years of related experience; OR
• PhD without experience; OR equivalent work experience

Knowledge and Skills

• Expertise in liquid handling systems including Hamilton, Tecan, Beckman, Agilent, Lynx, and others, with integration of associated peripheral devices such as plate readers, sealers, shakers, and scanners
• Deep knowledge of automated systems programming including method development, error recovery logic, liquid class optimization, method validation and testing via simulation/trace files, and integration with LIMS/MES
• Basic proficiency with object-oriented programming languages with emphasis on C# and Python
• Strong troubleshooting skills for integrated automation systems with a track record of resolving critical production issues
• Solid understanding of Software Development Life Cycle and validation procedures
• Ability to plan project activities, set priorities, and provide guidance to supporting team members while maintaining project schedules
• Ability to manage vendors and engineering contractors on a technical level for component delivery
• Strong oral and written communication skills with ability to explain complex technical concepts to a cross-functional audience
• Operates independently, sets priorities, and drives projects to completion with minimal oversight.

In this role, you will guide engineering strategy, architect large-scale, cloud‑native, full‑stack applications, and collaborate across product, UX, platform, and data teams to deliver secure, high‑performance, enterprise-grade systems. You will influence engineering culture, mentor senior engineers, and ensure our solutions remain scalable, observable, and aligned with long‑term business outcomes.

Responsibilities

Architecture & Technical Leadership

• Architect and own end‑to‑end technical solutions across front‑end, back‑end, and data layers for enterprise-scale products.
• Drive cloud-native architecture on AWS, including microservices, event-driven patterns, security controls, and scalable data workflows.
• Lead cross-team architectural reviews, ensuring alignment with engineering best practices, long-term platform strategy, and organizational technical standards.
• Champion DevOps, embedding security, quality, and observability into every stage of the SDLC.
• Champion observability across the organization, ensuring systems are setup for deep visibility, actionable alerts, and fast root-cause analysis.

Full‑Stack Product Development

• Design, build, and maintain applications using Next.js, NestJS, and modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks.
• Build robust APIs, services, and distributed systems using Node.js-based server frameworks.
• Support rich front-end experiences, focusing on performance, accessibility, and scalable UI architecture.
• Develop efficient data access patterns using both relational and NoSQL databases.

Enterprise Software Delivery

• Implement and evolve CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI to improve deployment frequency, reliability, and operational excellence.
• Deploy, monitor, and optimize applications on AWS.
• Integrate and operationalize observability tooling, including logging frameworks, metrics collection, distributed tracing, dashboards, and alerting systems.

Collaboration & Cross‑Functional Influence

• Partner with Product, Data, Architecture, Platform Engineering, Security, and peer Principal Engineers to drive strategic initiatives and technical roadmaps.
• Translate complex technical concepts into business-aligned recommendations for stakeholders.
• Serve as a key voice in engineering strategy, bringing clarity and thought leadership to complex organizational decisions.

Mentorship & Culture Building

• Mentor engineers at all levels through pairing, architecture reviews, and continuous knowledge-sharing practices.
• Foster a culture of engineering excellence based on collaboration, craftsmanship, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Required

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including more than 3 years in technical leadership or principal-level roles.
• Strong full‑stack engineering experience, with deep expertise in front-end, back-end, and data architecture.
• Advanced proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, Next.js, NestJS, Node.js, and modern application frameworks.
• Strong experience with both NoSQL (e.g., DynamoDB, MongoDB) and SQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL).
• Expert in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitLab preferred).
• Extensive experience architecting and deploying solutions on AWS.
• Hands-on experience with logs, metrics, tracing, APM tools, and observability platforms.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across multiple teams and stakeholders.
