Success Profile

The Sweater Designer supports the creation and execution of a competitive, fashion-forward sweater assortment for DKNY Sportswear. This role balances brand-right, emotionally driven design with commercial relevance to drive business growth in alignment with DKNY’s strategic and financial objectives. The Designer works collaboratively across teams to bring innovative, high-quality product from concept through production in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.


Key Responsibilities

Design & Development

β€’ Create original sweater designs through hand sketches and Adobe Illustrator flats.

β€’ Develop and maintain complete design packages, including sketches, tech packs, line sheets, and CAD presentations.

β€’ Research and source innovative yarns, stitches, trims, and fabrics each season.

β€’ Prepare and maintain tech packs from initial concept through bulk production.

β€’ Organize and manage all aspects of design development, including artwork, trims, fabric worksheets, line lists, and finalized tech packs.

β€’ Attend garment fittings and collaborate closely with Technical Design to ensure design intent and fit accuracy.

β€’ Revise and update tech packs as needed, clearly communicating changes to factories.

β€’ Review and approve artwork, strike-offs, wash panels, lab dips, and related development submissions.

β€’ Create CAD presentations for internal reviews and external meetings with speed and accuracy.

Production & Overseas Communication

β€’ Create and maintain tracking charts for overseas sample requests and development timelines.

β€’ Communicate daily with overseas factories to support ongoing product development.

β€’ Coordinate sample preparation for internal meetings, line reviews, and market presentations.

β€’ Enter and maintain PLM data, including Bills of Materials (BOMs), for production readiness.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

β€’ Minimum of 5 years of professional apparel design experience, with a focus on sweaters preferred.

β€’ Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design (w/ textiles & knitwear preferred) or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

β€’ Experience working in a high-SKU, fast-paced fashion environment.

β€’ Strong understanding of apparel construction, sweater techniques, and garment components.

β€’ Familiarity with apparel development timelines, calendars, and production processes.

Technical Skills

The Retail Marketplace Operations Manager will support the following:

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with leadership to analyze and accelerate strategies that define and implement best practices for merchandise returns, inventory placement, and disposition.
  • Develop and implement the overall returns strategy to improve customer satisfaction and optimize the returns process, reducing costs and enhancing operational efficiency.
