Rapid Growth AI Start-Up (Post Series A)

With the ability to take massive leaps forward in our interpretation of the laws which underpin physics, the business has applications impacting space exploration, climate and green energy, advanced computing, robotics, defense and global food supply chain.

The Role

The Head of Finance and Accounting will own the build out of the FP&A, Strategic Finance and Controllership functions. Taking responsibility for the development of financial modelling, strategic planning and insightful analysis, the Head of Finance & Accounting will be key in driving improved understanding and performance while establishing best in class Controls to an β€˜IPO ready’ standard.

Additionally, the position offers significant exposure and the opportunity to build relationships with the CEO and wider Exec team making recommendations that will deliver growth.

This position really is a true blank slate as the business is set to scale from under 20 to close 200 heads in 12 months

Responsibilities:

  • Own the development of exceptional financial modelling
  • Establish Forecasting and Budgeting processes (FP&A)
  • Work closely with the CEO as an Executive Business Partner
  • Build KPI’s and analytics to make sense of complex data and present this to decision makers across the business
  • Establish robust budgeting processes for AI research and product development
  • Produce mid and long term strategic planning
  • Implement scalable financial controls and processes
  • Lead the setup of multiple international entities ensuring appropriate financial controls and compliance processes are established
  • In due course insource the Controllership function and oversee month-end, day-to-day Accounting
  • Liaise with Auditors to prepare the first audit
  • Identify and build relationships with third party tax experts in international locations
  • Liaise with and establish complex government contracts
  • Produce monthly Board Reporting with detailed commentary
  • Business Partner with multiple teams in the business to challenge numbers and bring improved performance
  • Create dashboards and improve the accuracy of forecasting periodically
  • Prepare the business for future funding rounds
Skills

What We Need:

  • Background in Investment banking, experience working in VC/PE firms or Corporate Finance/ M&A advisory experience OR relevant industry experience in a rapid growth Tech start-up (this can include AI, Deeptech, AI, Robotics, Defense, Biotech, Climate Tech and Green Energy, SaaS, Fintech)
  • Ideally a qualified CPA (or has overseen and managed Controllership functions in a fast growth environment which has required being truly hands-on)
  • Exceptional financial modelling skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • High level of commercial acumen

What We’d Love to See (Non-Essential):

  • Experience in a VC backed Tech start-up which has raised over $100m
  • Experience dealing with government contracts
  • Experience in R&D heavy environments
  • Experienced leading international teams with multiple entities
  • Experience establishing FP&A and Accounting processes simultaneously in a VC backed start-up (Ideally AI)
Package

Salary: $300,000 to $350,000 + bonus + share options

Start Date: ASAP

Location: San Francisco Bay Area (Hybrid model and will consider exceptional remote first candidates)

Chief Accounting Officer

Remote with some travel to San Francisco Bay Area

In the coming months they are preparing to begin large scale, complex manufacturing in more than one heavy industrial vertical.

The Role

The Chief Accounting Officer will own the build out of entire Controllership function covering Accounting, Controls, Tax, Treasury, Cost Accounting and Government Accounting. Establishing a world class Controllership function implementing international processes to an IPO read level the Chief Accounting Officer will be key to shaping the business during a rapid growth phase.

Additionally, the position reports directly to a visionary CEO with an incredible reputation in the Bay Area. You will have significant impact shaping and defining the strategic direction of the business working closely with the wider Executive team and a Board.

This position really is a true blank slate as the business is set to scale from under 25 to close 250 heads in 12 months and accelerating quickly to 1000.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish the global accounting function from the ground up, designing scalable processes and controls suitable for a high-growth, multi-entity manufacturing business.
  • Develop and implement a robust cost accounting framework to support complex manufacturing operations, product costing, and margin analysis.
  • Lead the setup and integration of international entities, managing cross-border accounting, statutory reporting, and consolidation under US GAAP.
  • Partner with external advisors for country-specific tax, regulatory, and accounting guidance; ensure global compliance and efficient tax structuring.
  • Build and manage the full month-end close process to IPO-ready standards, including internal controls, financial reporting, and audit preparation.
  • Provide technical accounting oversight and implement new guidance as the company evolves through R&D, production, and commercialization stages.
  • Oversee government accounting compliance, including adherence to federal contracting standards and audit requirements.
  • Lead the selection and implementation of a global ERP system, ensuring seamless integration across functions and geographies.
  • Recruit, mentor, and scale a high-performing accounting and finance team capable of supporting a complex international manufacturing footprint.
Skills

What We Need:

About the role

The Vice President, Controller is a key member of the finance leadership team responsible for overseeing the company’s global accounting operations, supporting financial reporting, and maintaining the effectiveness of the internal control environment.


This role ensures the integrity of financial information, compliance with U.S. GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements, and supports strategic decision‑making. The VP, Controller is instrumental in driving operational excellence, automation, and scalability within the finance function.


What you’ll do

  • Lead the accounting function, including general ledger, revenue recognition, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, fixed assets and consolidations.
  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and year‑end financial close processes and reporting.
  • Support the preparation of internal and external financial statements in compliance with GAAP, DK GAAP and SEC regulations, as applicable.
  • Support a strong internal control environment by maintaining and enhancing internal control over financial reporting (ICOFR) over general ledger activities.
  • Provide financial analysis and insights that support strategic business decisions.
  • Coordinate with external auditors for the annual audit and manage related inquiries and deliverables.
  • Assist in the development of technical accounting guidance and in the implementation of new standards.
  • Lead and develop a high‑performing accounting team; promote continuous learning, cross‑training and career development.
  • Evaluate and implement systems and process improvements to streamline operations, enhance reporting capabilities and promote efficient cross‑functional collaboration.
  • Collaborate with FP&A, tax, treasury, legal, and business unit leaders to ensure alignment and effective communication of financial data.
  • Support M&A due diligence and integration efforts as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting and financial leadership roles within the biopharma industry.
  • Public accounting experience (BigΒ 4 or large regional firm) combined with corporate accounting experience within a public biopharma company preferred.
  • Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP, DK GAAP (or IFRS), COSO internal control framework, and financial reporting.
  • Strong leadership, team development, and communication skills.
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., MS Dynamics Business Central, Oracle NetSuite, or similar) and other report writer and/or FP&A software a plus.
  • Ability to lead change, manage complexity, and drive process improvements in a dynamic environment.
  • Monthly travel may be required (up to 20%).
