Instructor (Non-Senate, Non-Tenure Track)
Salary range:
A reasonable estimate for this position is $4,000 to $6,000 per course. Instructor compensation is determined by course length, number of units, enrollment, budgetary considerations, and other factors.
Percent time:
Part-time temporary appointments are offered by agreement on a course-by-course basis.
Anticipated start:
Classes are expected to begin in August for the fall term and January for the spring term.

Position description
UC Berkeley Extension, the professional and continuing education division at the University of California, Berkeley, invites applications for a pool of qualified instructors to teach in-person professional post-baccalaureate courses for our Business, Data, and Innovation Visiting Student Programs. All courses are offered weekdays in-person on the UC Berkeley campus with some online instructional components. The pool will remain in place for nine months; those interested in remaining in the pool beyond the advertised final closing date must reapply. The number of these positions varies from semester to semester, depending on the needs of the department.

Instructor duties include but are not limited to:
- Complete mandatory training programs by deadlines established by UC Berkeley.
- Complete required administrative tasks in a timely manner including: updating and submitting syllabi using approved syllabus template; communicating required texts and materials; communicating classroom technology and support needs, etc.
- Make appropriate adjustments to continually improve the syllabus, curriculum and course materials. May be based upon programmatic and/or student feedback.
- Prepare and deliver course materials, lectures/presentations, and design learning assessments.
- Design interactive and motivational classroom activities to fully engage participants and to reinforce student learning.
- Stay current within the subject, discipline or field of practice.
- Use subject-matter expertise and leverage additional resources appropriately to enhance the curriculum.
- Utilize course support platforms, including the Canvas Learning Management System and Zoom Pro (as applicable).
- Communicate teaching objectives and specific learning outcomes to students, and clearly outline/explain the grading policies for the course.
- Respond to student questions and learning needs in a timely manner.
- Employ culturally competent and other relevant teaching methodologies in the classroom, including teaching non-native speakers and/or students with academic letters of accommodations for disabilities.
- Evaluate student achievement of specific learning outcomes and assign grades.
- Post final student grades to the transcript system within two weeks of course completion.
- Handle student inquiries about final grades and consult with Program Director/Manager as needed.
- Retain student records according to University policies.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent international degree)
Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
- 3 or more years of professional industry work experience since degree, or 3 or more years of teaching experience since degree.
- All work must be performed in the United States, whether in person or online.
- For those who are not US citizens or permanent residents, a legal permit that allows work in the United States (such as a US visa that allows employment) is required by the start date of the position. Due to the part-time, temporary nature of instructor positions, UC Berkeley Extension is unable to provide US visa/work permits for this position.
Preferred qualifications
- Advanced degree in subject area preferred.
- 5 or more years of professional industry work experience in course subject since degree.
- 5 or more years of teaching, training, mentoring, or coaching experience in course subject, within a U.S. corporate environment or at a U.S. college/university institution.
- Knowledge of federal and California state laws and regulations as applicable to the course subject.
- Experience in creating syllabi, learning objectives, lectures/presentations, learning activities, assignments, assessments, exams, and quizzes.
- Experience teaching and/or developing academic content for online courses.
- Ability to convey conceptual and complex ideas and information.
- Effective verbal/written communication and presentation skills (English).
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues and work within a team environment.
- Proficiency in (or willingness to learn) instructional and other technology, such as: Learning Management Systems (Canvas); lecture/presentation capture applications (Panopto); online video conferencing (Zoom); Microsoft Office (Word and PowerPoint); file sharing (Google drive or Dropbox); and Google Workspace tools (email, calendar, docs, sheets, slides, etc).

About the School of Computing Instruction at the Georgia Institute of Technology
With more students graduating with a Computer Science degree than any other major at Georgia Tech and the Institute's requirement that every student complete at least one programming course, quality instruction on the foundations of computing has never been more important. The School of Computing Instruction (SCI) was created to serve these critical needs within Georgia Tech and beyond. Our award-winning teaching-focused faculty have three core missions:
Platform for Creativity and Innovation. SCI's creative faculty boldly experiment with new ideas and approaches to pedagogy, while continually re-examining proven methods to ensure their approach is effective and practical across a different set of courses and students. Ultimately, we consider SCI a platform for meaningful experimentation and invite collaborations both within and beyond Georgia Tech to further push the envelope in computing education.
Scalability of Computing Instruction. SCI's faculty design and serve as primary instructors for the College's array of introductory computer science courses, direct the junior design/capstone program for our undergraduate computing majors, and teach a selection of upper-division and graduate level courses that reflect our faculty's varied interests. At the undergraduate level, SCI faculty teach a third of the College's 1000-4000 level course offerings or half of the nearly 9000 undergraduate computing course seats each semester. Job Summary
The School of Computing Instruction (SCI) at Georgia Institute of Technology within the College of Computing was recently founded to recognize the significant contributions of CS teaching-track faculty. We invite applications for multiple full-time and long-term faculty positions. The official appointment of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer will be made depending on past teaching experience. Both positions are offered with renewable contracts with an expectation to start in 2025 on Georgia Institute of Technology Atlanta campus. Summer teaching for additional compensation is typically available. In addition, SCI faculty are typically allowed to teach at one of Georgia Tech's multiple study-abroad campuses (Berlin, Barcelona, Metz, etc.) during the summer.
The top candidates will be invited to Atlanta for an on-site interview, which involves giving a sample lecture.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to providing high-quality undergraduate teaching, primarily within the technical communications component of the College's capstone design program. Opportunities to teach graduate courses are also available, as candidates will be matched to courses for which they are the best fit. In addition to teaching, there will be an expectation to participate in service at the School, College, and Institute level. Candidates are also encouraged to engage in scholarship and curriculum development. As part of its budget, SCI earmarks funding for these sorts of activities and makes it available to faculty.

Salary range:
The UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay at appointment. See the following table(s) for the current salary scale(s) for the Lecturer position: The current full-time salary range for the Lecturer position is $70,977-$199,722.
Starting salary will be commensurate with highest degree, past college-level teaching experience, relevant industry experience and equity within the department. The current salary range for TSP positions is $1,455.90 - $3,440 flat rate per bootcamp taught.

The Department of Statistics at UC Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach the following courses should an opening arise. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies from semester to semester including summer sessions, depending upon the needs of the Department.

General Duties:
General duties include developing syllabi, lecturing, writing assignments, writing and grading exams, supervising teaching assistants, holding office hours, and maintaining a course website. Other duties may be assigned by the Chair as necessary.
TSP (Teacher Special Program) appointments teach our Summer Preparation Bootcamp for the Master of Arts (M.A.) in Statistics program. This bootcamp is a short courses on one or more of the topic areas listed. Most TSP courses are taught in a 'bootcamp' 3-week format in late July and early August .

Percent time:
Positions range from 33% to 100% each semester. Summer positions are 11% (part-time positions that are weighed at 50%).

The Division of Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a pool of qualified lecturers to teach courses in any of the possible areas:

The courses may encompass both core curriculum (Economics, Quantitative Methods, Law & Public Policy, Introduction to Policy Analysis, Advanced Policy Analysis, and Politics & Public Policy); as well as its breadth curriculum (policy applications in specific disciplines and/or specializations, as noted below in Preferred Qualifications). Position description
The Department of Anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley is generating an applicant pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach courses in Biological Anthropology and Anthropological Archaeology, should an opening arise. We are especially interested in Biological Anthropologists and Anthropological Archaeologists who can teach one or two undergraduate courses and/or a laboratory analysis class that satisfies our upper division course requirement, our geographic area course requirement, method course requirement in Biological Anthropology and Anthropological Archaeologists. The Opportunity

We seek candidates to teach large-enrollment sections of introductory physics courses, introductory physical science and astronomy courses for a variety of majors, as well as upper-division undergraduate courses in physics and astronomy. The successful applicant is expected to demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and knowledge in curriculum and course design. Lecturers in the department typically have instructional duties and service assignments in accordance with the department's current equitable workload policy. Lecturers are encouraged to pursue independent research, including student research mentoring. Research, curriculum development, and other activities can reduce teaching assignments. There is a career path for lecturers with the possibility of promotion based on years of service and performance.

The UCF Department of Physics (physics/) is at the heart of our nation's SpaceU, offering a broad range of courses in physics, as well as in physics-related areas such as astronomy and planetary science, from general education physical sciences to advanced graduate-level topics. The department has ~60 full-time faculty members, and offers B.S., B.A., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees, including a master's to Ph.D. bridge program, preparing students for a range of careers. The Physics department centers teaching and learning, and pedagogy-informed practices across lower and upper division courses. Minimum Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in physics, astronomy, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution at the time of application, and previous teaching experience at the college or university level.
For the associate lecturer position, candidates must also have demonstrated depth and breadth of teaching physics and/or astronomy courses, and at least five years of full-time teaching experience in a higher education institution.

Position description
The Department of Anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley is generating an applicant pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach courses in Folklore and Socio-Cultural Anthropology, should an opening arise. Applications will be accepted and reviewed according to department needs.
We are especially interested in Anthropologists and Folklorists who can teach one or two undergraduate courses in a topical field of their expertise, or which satisfy our upper division major requirements and electives in Socio-Cultural Anthropology (e.g., geographic area or methods courses). We are particularly interested in applicants who can teach courses in the following fields: Post-communist transformations in the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe; language, culture and society; and medical anthropology. We also welcome applicants with innovative approaches to any other field within Folklore and Socio-Cultural anthropology, and whose teaching might supplement current curriculum gaps in the department.
In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties may include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g. syllabus), writing exams, and managing GSIs.
