Location: Albany, NY, 12203

  • Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:Develop an in-depth understanding of a variety of program areas and help manage content including but not limited to writing, editing, and managing approvals for press releases, op-eds, talking points, and other documents to support public and media relations efforts.
  • Help ensure consistency of vision and tone across all Communications deliverables to develop content that builds public awareness of NYSERDA's programs and accomplishments.
  • Identify opportunities to expand NYSERDA's earned media reach by monitoring and analyzing trends; help inform internal reporting on same.
  • Help establish best practices with content creation workflow, processes; help inform internal reporting on same.
  • Work closely with management to provide recommendations and guidance on creating content to support public relations efforts for NYSERDA programs and policies with the goal of achieving positive feedback among external and internal constituencies.
  • Work jointly with the Corporate Communications team to ensure that all items meet the highest professional standards of accuracy, clarity, and style. Liaise with internal departments including marketing, web, and social media to ensure consistency of message.
  • Build networks within NYSERDA, and at NY Green Bank and other energy and environment agencies.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.



Required Skills


This position requires a broad range of skills, with strong experience in writing, editing, public and media relations, and internal and external communications.

  • Must be a motivated self-starter with strong project management skills, adaptable to working independently or as part of a team, and able to prioritize multiple projects while working in a fast-paced environment.
  • The ideal candidate fosters strong collaborations and maintain an awareness and understanding of complex issues affecting NYSERDA, New York State and the energy industry.

  • Excellent journalistic, presentation and interpersonal skills that resonate with a variety of audiences; ability to communicate persuasively, concisely and unambiguously in speech and in writing.
  • The ability to express complex technical and organizational concepts in terms understandable to the news media and public; track record of creative and proactive approaches for pitching news stories.
  • Strong project management skills: ability to work well under pressure and a respect for internal and external deadlines; manage multiple diverse ac vi es simultaneously, deliver on commitments and varying deadlines, and operate/make decisions with speed, accuracy and strong judgment.
  • Strong computer skills (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Asana, etc.)


Education, Certifications, Degree requirements

Preferred: Bachelor's degree and at least 4 years' experience in the clean energy sector.

  • Required: Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years' related experience in journalism, communications, public relations, or related field or experience directly working in a corporate or government communications or public relations department.
