Overview

A leading electrical contractor in Chicago is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support large‑scale industrial and data center projects across the region.


This role places you side‑by‑side with an experienced PM, developing the core skills required to independently manage major electrical construction project, often $50M–$100M+ in size.

This is a career‑path position with structured development, hands‑on project exposure, and a clear track toward full Project Manager responsibility.


Responsibilities

  • Assist the PM in delivering industrial and data‑center electrical projects from pre‑construction through closeout
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, procurement logs, testing records, and other documentation
  • Track schedules, constraints, progress, and field requirements
  • Coordinate with field crews, vendors, suppliers, GCs, and internal teams to maintain workflow
  • Support forecasting of labor, materials, and costs; maintain accurate financial tracking
  • Assist with early project pursuits: quotes, drawing reviews, VE options, estimate summaries, and proposal prep
  • Help prepare bid packages and support estimating tasks when needed
  • Join client meetings, walkthroughs, and coordination sessions; support client‑facing communication
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, GCs, subcontractors, and internal teams
  • Support procurement of materials, equipment, and long‑lead items; track deliveries and lead times
  • Maintain project logs, compliance documentation, and quality records
  • Support safety, compliance, and project quality initiatives
  • Provide day‑to‑day operational and administrative support to the Project Manager


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • 3–5 years post‑graduate experience in construction; industrial electrical experience strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of project delivery: bidding, schedules, COs, procurement, and field operations.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office; exposure to Procore, Bluebeam, PlanGrid, Accubid, Primavera, etc., is a plus.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Ability to work on‑site 5 days per week in the Chicago area.
