Position description
The Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley is seeking highly motivated individuals for the position of Junior or Assistant Specialist. The positions are to assist in research in economic development, labor, and health economics, applying rigorous methods for causal inference and machine learning .
The Institute for Business and Social Impact (IBSI) was launched in November 2013 at the Haas School of Business to train and empower leaders to address society's most pressing challenges. The candidate would work at the Haas School of Business IBSI under the supervision of Laura Chioda (manager) and Professor Paul Gertler.
General Duties:
- Research Design & Analysis (20%): Assist in designing and interpreting analyses using advanced econometric methods, including reduced form approaches (difference-in-differences, regression discontinuity, instrumental variables) and structural econometrics (method of moments, maximum likelihood, dynamic programming), with a focus on causal inference.
- Data Collection & Field Operations (15%): Support the design and implementation of field experiments, survey development, and primary data collection activities; monitor data quality and coordinate with field teams to ensure research protocols are followed.
- Data Management & Programming (20%): Write efficient, well-documented code to manipulate large datasets and implement complex analyses; maintain data infrastructure using collaborative and replicable programming practices.
- Quality Assurance & Documentation (15%): Clean and validate data, identify and resolve technical issues with datasets or code, and maintain comprehensive documentation of all research procedures and analytical decisions.
- Research Communication (10%): Prepare materials for research manuscripts, project reports, and presentations; generate publication-ready tables, graphs, and visualizations that effectively communicate findings.
- Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing (20%): Work closely with faculty, research team members, and external collaborators to advance ongoing analyses, share methodological expertise, and contribute to the broader research agenda.

Preferred qualifications

- At least one year of experience as predoc. Scholars with strengths in applied micro-econometrics, field experiments, survey and applied data science (including machine learning and computational methods fare particularly encouraged.
- Advanced proficiency in the following coding languages: Proficiency in Coding Languages: R, Java, Python. Demonstrated experience with large and complex data sets.
- Demonstrated proficiency to work as part of a research team and/or previous experience working with data in a research context, including data collection.

Senior Manager of Consumer Insights & Analytics

The Senior Manager of Consumer Insights will join a growing, collaborative and critical team leading key work to drive growth across the TJX portfolio of brands. The Senior Manager will be responsible for leading insights and analysis to guide brand strategies, platform development, and creative. They will also be responsible for leading our consumer panel and understanding sentiment and perceptual trends impacting the TJX business.
The successful candidate should have expertise in leading research and analytics to guide brand and experience strategies. They demonstrate strong analytics and insight generation, business sense and strategic influencing, and ability to distill sophisticated data into a simple story. They will work cross-functionally with a wide variety of partners, including Brand Marketing, Media, Senior Leaders, other Insight & Analytic Leaders in US and globally and external research partners.
Who We Are Looking For: You.
- Envision and lead consumer insights work for two key TJX brands (such as segmentation, brand strategy, brand platform creative testing, consumer journey, etc.) to influence brand strategies and executions.
- Lead team in owning key customer panel insights from longitudinal and custom panel research and own and optimize the panel capability to drive greater impact and efficiency.
- Analyze quantitative data and understand the why behind the data through qualitative findings.
- Connect the dots across various data sources to determine overall implications and leverage insights as the basis to influence strategy.
- Lead direct report and key agencies/vendors.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- 8+ years of proven experience in consumer insights, market research or analytics, including 4+ years leading and managing insight and analytic professionals / teams
- Background in leading end to end insight generation- envisioning the right approach, leading analysis, and generating insight and action- from primary research, including significant quantitative experience
- Experience influencing across a broad array of internal and external partners including guiding and influencing brand strategy
- Naturally curious with passion for understanding customer behavior and trends, advocating for the customer, and growing in the Insights & Analytics function
- Adept at presenting complex concepts in an easy to understand and actionable way
- Attention to details and able to grasp the big picture
- Experience in leading a team to develop, analyze, synthesize, and communicate data and insights effectively
- Strong collaboration and ability to keep projects on track
- High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office products
This position is hybrid requiring at least two days per week in the Framingham, MA office and is not open to remote.

This position has a starting salary range of $113,600.00 to $147,700.00 per year. Actual starting pay is determined by a number of factors, including relevant skills, qualifications, and experience. This position is eligible for an annual incentive as well as long-term incentives.

This role is responsible for translating complex business and market questions into structured, executable data outputs using Trilliant Health’s proprietary claims, provider directory, and price transparency datasets.
The Solutions Architect owns feasibility validation, analytical methodology design, and data integrity across research initiatives and pre-sales support. This individual combines strong technical proficiency with healthcare domain expertise and plays a critical role in standardizing how recurring strategic questions are answered across the organization.
You are our ideal candidate if you:
- Design and execute complex SQL queries and data builds from Trilliant’s data warehouse
- Capture and maintain documentation outlining how and why analytical frameworks are applied to support consistency and institutional knowledge retention
- Validate data integrity and identify gaps, missingness, structural limitations, or edge cases
- Own technical feasibility assessments for research and pre-sales opportunities
- Develop repeatable analytical frameworks for common strategic use cases
- Support research initiatives through structured dataset construction and methodological validation
