Position description

The Research Assistant will assist Professor Jesse Rothstein's academic and policy research. Rothstein is a labor economist with joint appointments in the Goldman School of Public Policy and the Department of Economics. He serves as faculty director of the Center for Studies in Higher Education and the California Policy Lab.



The Research Assistant will be involved in projects on a range of topics in labor economics, higher education, and public policy, potentially including work on intergenerational mobility, the social safety net, educational pathways and outcomes, determinants of wages and employment, and labor market and education policy.



Duties will include:




  • Cleans and prepares data sets, primarily from government sources, for analysis, using Stata and R.
  • Analyzes research data; summarizes information; implements statistical approaches for labor economics and higher education research projects, under direct supervision.
  • Prepares graphs, tables, and other displays of the results of research and analysis.
  • Assists with preparation of reports and analyses, including gathering references, copyediting, and confirming internal consistency.
  • Reviews academic and applied research, and prepares research collections for PI review.
  • Assists with design, documentation, and implementation of quantitative empirical research studies.
  • Assists in coordination of research projects, including management of data access agreements, publication agreements, and other administrative aspects of the projects.
  • Assists in proposal writing.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


The Administrative Assistant II (AAII) provides administrative support to the Admissions team, oversees and monitors the operations workload and workflow, and makes recommendations to improve efficiency of work processes. The incumbent identifies, proposes and initiates solutions for problematic issues and processes and disseminates and/or elevates for resolution. The AAII provides functional supervision, training, and assigns tasks to clerical staff and student employees.   • Provides guidance to and monitors the assignments of the Operations staff and suggests adjustments of work duties to ensure effective office operations, productivity, and quality of work.
  • Maintains work/time off schedule for student workers.
  • Processes, updates, and administers prospective student applications, credentials, and related documentation through the Admissions student system and electronic filing systems, ensuring application completeness and the accuracy of all student data.
  • Updates bio-demographic student information within systems and reviews qualifying documentation.
  • Updates application-related data to reflect program selection, entry term, student type admission decisions, including deposits and matriculation and housing preferences. Including but not limited to status changes, requests for program change, and processing of cancellations and refunds.
  • Proofreads and assigns appropriate admission communications (e.g. decisions, Dean's letters, merit scholarship awards, Honors College, etc.), provides updates to merit award data, and assists in releasing decisions to applicants.

Position description

The Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley is seeking highly motivated individuals for the position of Junior or Assistant Specialist. The positions are to assist in research in economic development, labor, and health economics, applying rigorous methods for causal inference and machine learning .



The Institute for Business and Social Impact (IBSI) was launched in November 2013 at the Haas School of Business to train and empower leaders to address society's most pressing challenges. As part of the top-ranked Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley, IBSI advances pioneering research at the intersection of business and social impact, with particular focus on workforce skills development, financial inclusion, and mental health in organizational settings. General Duties:




  • Research Design & Analysis (20%): Assist in designing and interpreting analyses using advanced econometric methods, including reduced form approaches (difference-in-differences, regression discontinuity, instrumental variables) and structural econometrics (method of moments, maximum likelihood, dynamic programming), with a focus on causal inference.
  • Data Collection & Field Operations (15%): Support the design and implementation of field experiments, survey development, and primary data collection activities; monitor data quality and coordinate with field teams to ensure research protocols are followed.
  • Data Management & Programming (20%): Write efficient, well-documented code to manipulate large datasets and implement complex analyses; maintain data infrastructure using collaborative and replicable programming practices.
  • Quality Assurance & Documentation (15%): Clean and validate data, identify and resolve technical issues with datasets or code, and maintain comprehensive documentation of all research procedures and analytical decisions.
  • Research Communication (10%): Prepare materials for research manuscripts, project reports, and presentations; generate publication-ready tables, graphs, and visualizations that effectively communicate findings.

Job Summary:

The Surgical Technologist functions under the direction of the registered professional nurse. Assists the health care team in providing safe, age appropriate and culturally aware patient care. He/she has knowledge, skill and ability to perform duties within the context of moderate to high acuity surgical cases (with an expectation on occasion to work above this level as cases require) as defined by the scope of anatomy, equipment and instrumentation of the case and anticipates the needs of the surgeon and other members of the healthcare team. Exhibits an acquisition of additional surgical skills for progressively more difficult cases. Demonstrates an efficient, organized surgical plan for assigned cases. Takes initiative to discuss surgical plan with other members of the healthcare team. Able to troubleshoot instruments and equipment. Anticipates any additional supplies or equipment required for procedures. Ability to mentor, precept or train in various modalities. Participates in performance improvement initiatives. Duties include, but are not limited to, preparation of the operative suite and surgical field to ensure a safe patient care environment while being vigilant for the maintenance of the sterile field and other patient safety concerns. Documentation and Communication:

Complete and accurate documentation of surgical procedures and patient care.

Certification: Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate accredited by the American Heart Association. Current Advanced Cardiopulmonary Life Support (ACLS) certificate accredited by the American Heart Association.
Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of current experience in an operating room setting, exclusive of agency assignments. Must have worked within the last six (6) months in an operating room setting.

Graduate of a professional nursing school approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by ACEN or CCNE.
