The organization is making a focused investment in artificial intelligence to improve internal efficiency, modernize workflows, and embed intelligent capabilities into its software platform. This role offers meaningful ownership and visibility, with a mandate to build and deploy AI systems that have real, production level impact.

The Role

As an Applied AI Engineer, you will play a key role in integrating AI across internal systems and a customer facing SaaS platform. You will work hands on with large language models (LLMs) and modern AI tooling to automate processes, build internal tools, and deliver intelligent product features.

This is a production focused role operating at the intersection of engineering, product, and business operations, with close collaboration across teams in a hybrid/onsite environment. (3-days per week onsite in Greater Kansas City Metro Area, 2-days remote work.)

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable AI powered services and tools to streamline internal workflows across multiple teams (e.g., operations, content, sales, support).
• Develop and deliver intelligent features within a proprietary SaaS platform.
• Integrate, manage, and optimize multiple LLMs and AI APIs (e.g., OpenAI style, Anthropic style, or comparable providers).
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to other engineers, including guidance on architecture, best practices, and performance.
• Build and maintain backend systems and APIs that support AI functionality across products and services.
• Design infrastructure for model serving, orchestration, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
• Implement fallback strategies, model routing, and cost performance optimization.
• Partner cross functionally with engineering, product, and business stakeholders to identify high impact AI opportunities.
• Apply best practices related to data privacy, security, compliance, and responsible AI use.
• Stay current with advancements in AI, LLMs, and MLOps, introducing new approaches where appropriate.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of engineering experience with multiple years of experience in a production environment deploying AI/ML applications or infrastructure.
• Proven experience applying LLMs or similar AI models to real business or product challenges.
• Strong backend engineering skills (Python and/or TypeScript preferred).
• Experience with AI/ML orchestration and deployment tools (e.g., LangGraph style frameworks, Airflow like systems, Kubeflow, Ray, or workflow automation tools).
• Hands on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Front end development experience in areas like React, Node.js, Web Development, front end web product design
• Solid understanding of MLOps practices, including deployment, monitoring, logging, and evaluation.
• Knowledge of data privacy, security, and ethical AI considerations.
• Experience supporting SaaS platforms or technology driven products is a plus.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
• Passion for applying AI in practical, high impact ways.

The applicable base salary range for this role is $81,270 to $151,620. The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. General Requirements:

• Assists providers with patient care, phone/mail/fax communications, scheduling, consents, admissions, referrals, and outpatient procedures.
• Communicates and collaborates with physicians, staff, patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members regarding care plans and patient needs.
• Educates patients, families, and clinical staff on treatments, medications, test preparation, discharge, and health maintenance; documents education and evaluates understanding.
• Participates in staff meetings, committees, quality improvement, risk management, and performance improvement projects.
• Maintains documentation accuracy and completeness in EMR: assessments, vitals, symptoms, treatments, medications, education, charges, lab results, histories, and consults.
• Maintains and monitors supplies, equipment, medication stock, and office machines; follows maintenance and quality control protocols; reports malfunctions.
• Recognizes and responds appropriately to urgent/emergency patient needs and initiates emergency procedures.
• Other duties as needed and assigned by the manager.
• Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.

Education:

• Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
• Active RN License in the state of Iowa; Licensure from other states may be required based on location. Compact State License acceptable where applicable.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 3 months of hire.
• Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to the population served within 3 months of hire.
• Proficient in basic computer skills (Windows environment, web-based navigation, email, MS Office).
• Ability to work with diverse groups of people in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
• Requires the ability to read, write and understand the English language, and communicate effectively with patient, visitors, and colleagues while performing their job duties.
• Completion of specialty classes or proof of other certifications required for some roles.

Prepare and organize patient charts with necessary information. File dictations and ensure completion of all required documentation. Communicate with patient regarding test results and plan of care  Schedule procedures, labs, x-rays, and surgeries; provide pre- and post-surgery information. Assist with patient outreach for overdue visits, labs, and referrals. Coordinate physician schedules and ensure insurance pre-certifications. Schedule and manage patient follow-ups, ensuring continuity of care. Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to organizational standards and ethical guidelines. Educate patients and families based on assessed needs and discharge plans. Promote evidence-based resources to optimize nursing practice and patient care. Proactively serves as a patient advocate by utilizing courteous and professional etiquette at all times reflecting positive tone and speaking distinctly with poise, tact and assurance. Assures accurate and complete messages to appropriate personnel. Assists in training, orienting, and supporting new colleagues. Work includes cross coverage in other clinic areas as team needs. Document patient plan(s) of care, tests and examination results in the medical record as directed by the provider. Escalate non-routine issues, questions and/or concerns to the practice manager or healthcare provider(s). Ensure safety checklists/quality controls are completed as required.
