Required Qualifications:One year of recent experience as an Endoscopy nurseValid RN license in compliance with state regulationsCurrent BLS (AHA/ARC) certification Preferred Qualifications:ACLS certifications (AHA/ARC)Other certifications and licenses may be required for this position Summary: The Endoscopy Registered Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive patient care in endoscopic procedures.

This role involves assessing patients, implementing care plans, assisting with endoscopic procedures, administering treatments, and collaborating with healthcare teams to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care.

Strong clinical expertise in endoscopy, critical thinking, excellent communication, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and professional ethics are essential for success in this role.

Essential Work Functions:Educate and explain endoscopic procedures and treatments to patients and familyAdminister prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques for endoscopyPrepare endoscopic equipment and assist physicians during endoscopic examinations and treatmentsMonitor patient safety and comfort throughout endoscopic procedures, ensuring adherence to safety protocolsObserve and document patients' conditions and reactions to medications and treatments, promptly notifying supervisors or physicians of significant changesTake, record, and assess patient condition, responding appropriately in the endoscopy settingConduct nursing assessments and document findings in patient medical records accurately and timelyCollaborate with gastroenterologists, anesthesiologists, and other team members to provide comprehensive careHandle specimens with precision and care to maintain diagnostic integrity and follow institutional protocolsStay informed about advancements in endoscopy nursing and incorporate evidence-based practices into care deliveryPerform other duties as assigned within the scope of practiceAdhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards Required Essential Skills:Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal communication skillsThe ability to read, write, and communicate in the English languageAbility to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skillsPhysical Abilities

• Prepares and evaluates outpatients prior to the procedure in an efficient and caring manner to provide for a smooth patient flow. May include doing pre-procedure phone calls to patients and/or physician offices to obtain information. 
• Demonstrates the ability to organize work and enhance the safety and quality of patient care, service and treatment.
• Proficient in IV skills.
• Review charts to ensure completeness in documentation.
• Prepares for cases in an efficient manner, anticipating needs of the patient and physician.
• Provides a safe environment for customers: patient, family, physicians and staff.
• Collects and analyzes data and assesses patient in developing nursing diagnosis / plan of care.
• Communicates effectively with the patient, staff, physicians, families, and other health care team members.
• Maintains knowledge of equipment set-up and function.
• Initiates and directs procedure rooms, clean up and turnover.
• EKG interpretation.
• Ongoing physiological assessment through all phases of the Endoscopy experience.
• Utilize computer software for electronic medical record documentation (EMR).
• Actively assists physicians in a large variety of endoscopy procedures. 

Education:

• Possession of a current or compact state license as a registered nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa. 
• Basic Life Support certified within six (6) weeks of hire.  Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers
• Basic computer knowledge including Microsoft office products. Helpful if familiar with ProVation RN & MD.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified or obtained within six (6) months of hire.
• Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three (3) months of hire.
• Ability to read, write and speak English language.
