Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions:

15+ years Facilities Engineering/Planning experience in an industrial/institutional setting, 5 of which in a technical supervisory capacity. This experience must include discerning program needs from user input to develop programming and planning documents, guiding and managing the design process, developing and managing project budgets, overseeing multi-million dollar construction projects involving a diversity of construction systems, and field observation of construction. Construction industry experience within institutional research environment is preferred.

Intimate knowledge and understanding of architectural, mechanical, electrical, structural, and civil systems encountered as part of facilities construction, renovation, and maintenance. Strong knowledge of building codes, industry standards, contract language applicable to the construction industry, and applicable statutes of the States of California, Connecticut, Florida and Maine is beneficial.

Management skills, particularly in decision-making, are required. The ability to gather and thoroughly analyze information in order to make well-founded recommendations to The Jackson Laboratory's senior management is required.

  10. Lead cross-functional NPI kickoff meetings to review design requirements, risk areas, and special process considerations.
  11. Document and track NPI issues and lessons learned for future builds.
  12. Coordinate with Program Managers to resolve DFM showstoppers prior to build.
  13. Analyze previous quality data, identify recurring defects, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  14. Design, order, and verify all required tooling (stencils, wave solder pallets, press-fit fixtures, conformal coat fixtures, etc.).
  15. Maintain tooling logs, labeling, and readiness tracking within Omega Build Readiness.
  16. Inspect and sign off first article setups for critical processes (stencil printer, reflow oven, wave solder, etc.) using the First Article Checklist.
  17. Inspect initial boards after print and reflow for solder release, bridging, voids, and process anomalies. Document findings and sign off the First Article Report.
  18. Provide on-the-floor training for operators and technicians regarding new processes, corrective actions, or observed deficiencies.
  19. Support production by promptly responding to technical inquiries or line support issues.
  20. Exercise full authority to stop the line if repeated defects or safety concerns are observed.

 

Quality Data Review & Root Cause Analysis

 

  1. Review production data in Omega Data Collection, identifying root causes and corrective actions.
  2. Review Daily, Weekly, and Customer Quality Reports to identify trends, recurring issues, or process gaps.
  3. Provide structured analysis and report findings to Quality and Production (using 8D or equivalent methodology).
  4. Document corrective actions and verify implementation during the next production run.
  5. Present findings and improvement updates in internal and customer quality meetings.

 

Other Responsibilities:

 

  1. Create and submit Post-Build DFM reports to Program Managers with improvement recommendations.
  2. Implement and validate ECO changes per revision control procedures.
  3. Perform and document detailed failure analyses for internal and customer returns.
  4. Participate in process improvement projects and defect-reduction initiatives.
  5. Provide customer-driven engineering services or special support requests.
  6. Develop and deliver internal technical training for operators and peers.
  7. Support ISO 9001 and AS9100 activities, including audits, documentation, and Work Instruction updates.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline).
  • 8–12 years of hands-on experience in electronics manufacturing (PCBA, box-build, system integration).
  • Deep understanding of SMT, Through-Hole, and system assembly processes.
  • Proficient in process validation, FAI, SPC, DOE, and yield improvement.
  • Familiarity with FactoryLogix and related MES/ERP systems.
  • Experience leading NPI builds and developing new assembly processes from prototype through production release.

Tasks and duties will include processing experiments precisely as documented or requested by the Engineering staff. Requirements are to work in class 10 /100 cleanroom environment, follow all procedures and protocols, follow instructions well, provide feedback to coworkers/leads in a constructive/positive manner, provide technical support and suggestions to Engineering, run sputter machines efficiently and effectively, collect sputter related data on metrology tools, maintain excellent documentation, work collaboratively in a team environment to help exceed goals. Pilot Line Operations includes - processing of the media through various media processes and equipment which includes but is not limited to the following:


  • Processing of experiments for the Engineering team - processing discs through the various tools, measurement of the media, data entry, and feedback to engineering and management of the results.
  • Work inside of a cleanroom - 100% PPE suits from head to toe with masks and safety glasses are required.
  • Job requires a good amount of movement (walking - 50% depending on the job) to retrieve parts from point A to point B in many cases.
  • Reaching is required in many cases to load and unload products onto racks, machines, etc., typically ranging from 24 inches to 53 inches not exceeding 10lbs.
  • Many cases cart is provided for the transport of product, but hand carrying of product/material is required majority of the time as well.
  • Computer skills are required in all the areas since the machines and the processes require computer and software interface. Interaction with Engineering is required via email, phone and excellent understanding and communication skills are required. Comprehension of correct recipes, file savings, instructions are followed precisely. Detailed use of excel is a must and understanding of Windows.
  • Job requires stepping onto step stools to reach platforms for the processing of parts, as well as bending/kneeling in tight spaces for access to back of tools for process checks.
  • Manual dexterity is needed in some areas to perform tape changes, adjustments based upon data received from Engineering or checklists. MDW process requires detailed manual dexterity with ESD sensitive parts and miniature assembly.
  • Many of the jobs require cross training to be able to utilize the employees efficiently for planning purposes and downtime in areas.
  • Saturday workday is required and part of their schedule in many cases and overtime is required.
  • Must be able to focus, excellent attendance, comprehension, enthusiastic in performing their jobs, communicate detailed information well, pay attention to details, and have a good attitude and work ethics, and a true team player in getting tasks at hand completed in a timely manner.
