POSITION PURPOSE
Provides and directs safe, effective, and culturally competent care for patients presenting with urgent and emergent medical conditions. Utilizes evidence-based practice and critical thinking to assess, triage, plan, implement, and evaluate care in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. The Emergency Room (ED) RN manages a diverse patient population across all age groups and conditions, including trauma, cardiac, neurological, and behavioral health emergencies. Supervises and coordinates care provided by LPNs, Patient Care Assistants, Emergency Room Techs, and other ED team members. Facilitates communication with physicians, patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members. Purpose: Oversees bed management, including patients who are being admitted, transferred and discharged. Key accountabilities includes: serves as a contact person for patient care area staff, physicians and health related facilities; evaluates patient needs, appropriate level of care, referring facility capability, predicts bed availability and admission/discharge trends; facilitates bed briefings; understands hospital patient patient placement priorities; participates in quality oversight, ensures EMTALA compliance and also services are provided efficiently according to Genesis Medical Center and department standards.
Report To: Manager, Regional Referral Center
Supervisory Responsibility: Guidance: The job requires the provision of occasional guidance and training to others. The job does not have formal or official supervisory responsibilities.
Materials Responsibility: Limited: Work requires limited responsibility for material resources. As a Registered Nurse at MercyOne, you will provide and direct safe, effective, and culturally competent care for patients with acute medical and surgical conditions. Through evidence-based practice, utilizes critical thinking to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate outcome-based care. The Acute Care RN manages a diverse patient population with varying levels of acuity, including post-operative, medical, telemetry, and neurologic patients. Supervises and coordinates care provided by LPNs, Patient Care Assistants, and other nursing team members. Facilitates communication with physicians, patients and families, and interdisciplinary team members. Essential Functions:
Conducts assessment
Identifies patient problems and develops plan of care
Implements outcome/goal - based plan of care
Evaluates patient progress and revises the outcome/goal - based plan as needed
Communicates relevant clinical information to the team to optimize patient outcomes/goals
Demonstrates clinical competence
Manages telemetry and cardiac monitoring when applicable
Provides care appropriate to the age-related needs of the patients served on his/her assigned unit
Adheres to all safety, infection control and colleague health policies and procedures
Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate degree in nursing required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing(BSN) preferred.
- Current Illinois (IL) RN license
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
- American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required only if the unit has telemetry monitoring capabilities.

Position Title: Specialty Nurse – Med Surg - Advanced RN (IA)
Department: Nursing Clinical Support Staff
Schedule:
- 1900-0730, 3 -12 hr shifts per week
- Every other weekend
- Holiday rotation
General Duties:
The Advanced RN will work in the float pool to provide support to nursing units in which they have competencies to independently deliver nursing care to patients.
- Assesses plans
- Implements and evaluates patients’ care and condition based upon observation, examination and other pertinent information
- Completes assessment in specified time frame
- Identifies and consistently recognizes changes in normal and abnormal parameters in the patient's physiological, psychological, cultural, developmental, and spiritual needs
- Implements nursing interventions to achieve progress toward expected patient outcomes or to stabilize a patient's condition and/or prevent complications
- Evaluates and documents patients' response to nursing care and modifies or revises treatment plans, and/or contacts physicians as circumstances require Participates in interdisciplinary patient care planning and evaluates patient progression in preparation for safe discharge

The Specialty Nurse – Med Surg – Advanced RN will be responsible for the following:
Clinical Duties – 75%

Administrative Duties – 10%
- Schedules, assigns, and coordinates work.
- Checks the quality of work and provides guidance, instruction, training, and direction to others.
General Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor's Degree
- Field OF Study: Nursing
- Special Training: ACLS; Basic Life Support; Minimum of 2 years experience in nursing
- Training Preferred: ANCC Certified in Medical-Surgical Nursing or related field
- Licensures/Registration: Registered Nurse in Iowa and/or Illinois
- Experience: More than 2 years experience required

POSITION PURPOSE
Provides and directs safe, effective, and culturally competent care for patients presenting with urgent and emergent medical conditions. The Emergency Room (ED) RN manages a diverse patient population across all age groups and conditions, including trauma, cardiac, neurological, and behavioral health emergencies.
