Perform complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of CT scanners and related equipment in accordance with prescribed radiation safety procedures. Position patients for CT scans using immobilization and protective equipment as necessary.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Assist radiologist with imaging procedures starting IV's and injecting contrast if applicable.
  • Assist radiologist with interventional CT procedures.
  • Evaluate CT scans for technical quality collate processed images in sequence of exposure and appropriately label. Film transmits to PACS.
  • Charge procedures and supplies correctly.
  • Assists in the administration and administers various chemical substances to render specific organs or systems more opaque. Dispense oral contrast to patients for CT scans.
  • Reviews patient charts and requests with the radiologist to ensure the proper examination and diagnostic results are obtained.
  • Quality controls all images maintains inventory and adheres to safety regulations. Participates in training of department personnel including students.
  • Load and operate power injections for contrast media administration.
  • Maintain accurate patient records.
  • Assist with providing orientation and training to new CT technologists.
  • Manage scheduling and patient flow on multiple interventional CT scanners.
  • Assist with research and development with CT equipment manufacturer to develop new CT software and new technologies when asked.
  • Participate in research initiatives and development of research protocols.
  • Monitor charging of CT procedures and supplies daily to ensure correctness.
  • Participates in inter or intra departmental performance improvement.
  • Accepts patients and assesses their condition to determine proper handling and special requirements. Explains and prepares the patient for the exam requested.
  • Relies on extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology to obtain the maximum diagnostic image corresponding to body parts.
  • Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety department safety and specific job-related hazards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimal Qualifications
Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Current Maryland State License required

Licenses and Certifications

  • ARRT required
  • Certified Cat Scan Technologist required
  • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required
  • Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.

Primary Duties: 

  • Operates and documents all aspects of Ultrasound. Verify procedure for appropriateness and preparation has been performed. Verifies that the patient has consented to the procedure and fully understands its risks, benefits, alternatives, and follow-up. When appropriate, verifies that a written or informed consent has been obtained. Provides patient information which includes LMP point of tenderness, symptoms, allergies, or other information pertinent to the exam being performed. Prepares patient for procedure; providing instruction to obtain desired results, gain cooperation and minimize anxiety. Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures. Practice aseptic techniques, as necessary. Immobilizes patients as required. Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort. Selects and operates imaging equipment, and or associated accessories to successfully perform procedures. Monitors patient during procedure. Responsible for following established procedures and protocols and producing accurate results. Evaluates images for technical quality, assuring proper identification and image labeling. Initiates basic life support action when necessary. Checks and orders supplies as needed. Participates in data collection for department’s quality assessment and improvement plan. May be responsible for specific quality control duties in assigned areas. Reports equipment failure/problems in a timely manner to supervisor/ lead person. Assists in training and education of employees, physicians, students and/or other healthcare professionals.   • Maintains current knowledge, certification, and licensure. Identifies learning needs in self and initiates actions to address these education needs. Attends continuing education programs to maintain certification. Attends hospital sponsored training programs as required by the department. Completes all mandatory requirements, certifications, and licensure within allotted time for completion. 

  • Works effectively within and between departments. Participates on inter-departmental teams and committees, communicating unit knowledge as appropriate. Assist Medical Imaging front desk in answering phones, signing out images via films or CD, processing paperwork and scheduling procedures as needed. 

 

Qualifications:  

  • Completion of an accredited program for Ultrasound Sonographers. 

  • RDMS (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer). 

  • CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation). 

  • Experience in a hospital setting preferred.
