Position Overview

Progressive Safety is actively seeking experienced BCSP-certified Construction Safety Professionals to support large-scale data center construction projects near Milwaukee, Wisconsin. These projects support one of the largest MEP contractors in the United States and offer the opportunity to work on complex, fast-paced mission-critical construction environments.

This role is ideal for a hands-on safety leader who enjoys being active in the field while mentoring junior safety team members and partnering closely with project leadership. The Safety Professional will help drive a proactive safety culture by conducting site audits, supporting high-risk work planning, and ensuring compliance with OSHA standards and project safety requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine site safety inspections and audits to ensure compliance with company policies, OSHA regulations, and project safety requirements.
  • Identify hazardous conditions or unsafe behaviors and work with project leadership to implement corrective actions.
  • Support planning for high-risk construction activities through participation in Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Pre-Task Plans (PTPs), and safety planning meetings.
  • Lead and support toolbox talks, safety orientations, and safety presentations for project teams and contractors.
  • Mentor and support junior safety professionals, helping develop their field leadership and technical knowledge.
  • Maintain all required site safety documentation, including inspection reports, incident reports, training records, and safety metrics.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns and assist with documentation and reporting requirements.
  • Partner with project leadership, subcontractors, and client representatives to promote a strong safety culture across the project.
  • Provide emergency response support when required and assist with incident investigation and corrective actions.
  • Utilize technology platforms such as Procore, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Teams to maintain project communication and safety documentation.


Required Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience working as a safety professional in a construction environment
  • BCSP Certification Required: CHST, ASP, or CSP
  • OSHA 30 Construction Certification (OSHA 10 also required)
  • Experience conducting site audits, safety inspections, and safety training in active construction environments
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with project leadership and safety management
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence safe work practices on site
  • Proficiency with construction technology platforms and Microsoft Office tools


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting data center, mission-critical, or large commercial construction projects
  • Experience working with MEP contractors or complex trade environments
  • Previous experience mentoring junior safety professionals or supporting safety teams on large projects

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead daily health and safety operations for all staff and eliminate safety and industrial hygiene-related obstacles to ensure execution of high-quality customer parts.
  • Inspect facilities daily for hazards. Document inspections, audits, and behavioral safety observations regularly. Oversee prompt correction of all deficiencies.

  • Track incidents using established processes and calculate safety metrics monthly in coordination with other departments. Broadcast metrics via established formats and methods. Complete OSHA 300 log annually and post during required posting period.

Summary

Job Summary

The EHS Compliance Specialist is a critical, high-visibility role responsible for the leadership, ownership, and continuous improvement of all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs. This position ensures complete compliance with OSHA, TOSHA, EPA, and internal quality standards (ISO 14001, IATF 16949 requirements) to maintain a proactive, injury-free work environment. The Specialist serves as the primary EHS subject matter expert and driver of safety culture change within the manufacturing facility.

Major Accountabilities

EHS Leadership & Culture

  • Owns and drives the site's EHS strategy, working collaboratively with the Plant Manager and Operations leadership.
  • Creates and sustains a proactive, behavioral-based safety culture through employee engagement, recognition programs, and strong visible leadership on the plant floor.
  • Leads the development, delivery, and documentation of all required safety and environmental training programs.
  • Conducts thorough and root-cause-focused accident and incident investigations, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Maintains authority to shut down production or specific processes immediately due to imminent safety hazards.

Compliance & Management Systems

  • Serves as the ISO 14001:2015 Site Representative, ensuring compliance, conducting internal audits, and driving continual improvement within the Environmental Management System.
  • Manages and ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements (OSHA, TOSHA, EPA).
  • Maintains and updates all official documentation, including OSHA Logs (300, 300A), training records, and environmental audit reports.
  • Assists in the identification, analysis, control, and elimination of occupational and environmental hazards (e.g., LOTO, machine guarding, ergonomics, chemical handling).

Workers' Compensation & HR Collaboration

  • Collaborates with the Human Resources Manager to administer the Workers' Compensation program, focusing on early intervention, return-to-work protocols, and minimizing recordable incidents.
  • Provides coaching and technical support to managers and supervisors to ensure consistent adherence to safe work practices.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental Engineering, or a related technical field is required.
  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of dedicated safety experience in a high-volume manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Technical Knowledge:
  • Expert knowledge of OSHA and TOSHA General Industry Standards is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management Systems.
  • Familiarity with IATF 16949 quality system requirements.
  • Knowledge of any applicable customer-specific requirements.
  • Core Competencies:
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to listen, coach, and present complex information clearly to all levels of the organization.

  • Responsible for supporting and providing process maintenance and continuous improvement for all safety programs of the Anaheim, CA location, which include hands on assistance, program implementation, training, and organization of monthly meetings and inspections.
  • Ensure adherence to all management systems including, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, OSHA and FSSC 22000, with an understanding of dsm-firmenich's SHE Policies and Procedures. Responsible that these policies and procedures are implemented throughout the organization and all related activities under the position's jurisdiction. Leads site SHE-S audits and environmental programs to assure compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Responsible for regulatory compliance related to hazardous materials management, hazardous waste management (both chemical and biological), wastewater, and DOT regulations (Local, State and Federal). Interfaces with regulatory agencies and authorities as appropriate.
  • Records and tracks injury and safety related data to derive performance metrics for analysis of trends and reporting metrics to upper management. Shapes proposals on how to help foster positive trends while mitigating negative trends.
  • Supports line management and promotes a culture of safety in manufacturing, office, and laboratory environments.

The salary or hourly wage scale provided reflects the pay range dsm-firmenich expects to pay the successful candidate for the position. Individual pay offered will be based on the applicant's job-related skills, experience, relevant education, or training, and primary work location. Salary $95,000-$150,000.
