As the AMER Industry PDS for Games, you will own and manage the execution plan with partners for the Games segment, driving go-to-market and building deep capability and capacity through strategic industry partners. JOB SUMMARY
The WRP Facilities Assistant is one of a three-person team dedicated to the Westside Research Park (WRP) and a member of the Baskin School of Engineering (BSOE) Facilities group reporting to the Director of Facilities. Under the general supervision of the WRP Facility Manager, the incumbent provides building operational support and is responsible for front-line support, including discovering, assessing, investigating, and resolving building plant issues.
The WRP Facilities Assistant interfaces and collaborates with facilities personnel from Physical Planning, Development, and Operations, and academic divisions with occupants in the WRP, including Physical and Biological Sciences, the Baskin School of Engineering, and the Arts Division. The incumbent also assists with special events, augments general facilities services needed, and travels to the main UCSC campus as necessary.

JOB DUTIES
80% - Facility Support
- Provides first-level support to trouble tickets and initial reports of building maintenance issues, taking trouble calls, inputting work requests into the BSOE work order system (RT), providing initial investigation of the problem, solving, and forwarding to the Physical Plant work order desk with information for resolution as required.
- Interfaces with Physical Plant technicians and contractors to provide guidance and escort if necessary.
- Closes off areas for safety or to prevent further issues as necessary.
- Supports minor maintenance tasks not covered by regular custodial staff.
- Facilitates equipment deliveries and moves, including moving heavy equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, and optics tables.
- Maintains the functionality and appearance of furniture as needed.
- Assists with building-related issues stemming from minor laboratory modifications and renovations, raising repair requests to appropriate vendors, other campus units, or other responsible parties.
- Monitors and reviews stock of building supplies, including paper towels, cleaning agents, secondary containers, hazwaste and medical waste bags, sharps containers, and other supplies, and advises of necessary purchases.
- Maintains organized facilities office and facilities shop spaces.
- Responds to normal hours lockout calls and assists with entry and access.
- Serves as Backup Building Coordinator for emergency/disaster preparedness at assigned venues, providing backup communication liaison between service agencies and building occupants, assisting in the preparation of building response plans, and coordinating education of building occupants.
- Provides secondary backup for the Building Access Administrator.
- Issues physical keys and card /code access per established procedures.
- Assists WRP Facility Manager with backup coverage for after-hours support, which may require overtime, a modified schedule, on-call status, or callback.
10% - Safety and Hazardous Materials, Hazardous Waste Monitoring and Review Documentation
- Conducts regular and periodic inspection rounds for safety, hazmat, hazwaste, and medical/biological waste compliance.
- Inspects areas for security, fire, and accident prevention hazards and advises appropriate campus units or occupants to take corrective action.
- Takes immediate and appropriate action as required to ensure personnel and property safety and coordinates long-term/permanent corrective actions to be performed by appropriate campus units.
- Monitors biological/medical waste storage area to ensure compliance with rules and regulations, including documentation of waste pickups, weekly inspections conducted, and service received by outside vendors or campus units.
- Attends and maintains safety training.
- Adheres to work protocols and safety requirements.
- Ensures personal protection equipment for self and student workers is adequate, worn, and used.
- Follows and recommends best practices for safe use of equipment and ladders.
- Ensures protocols for entering hazardous and biosafety labs are followed by self and student staff.
10% - Event Support and Other Duties
- Provides logistics and space preparation support for WRP special events, providing occasional weekend and evening support as necessary.

The Regional EHSS Manager is responsible for leading and implementing environmental, health, safety, and security programs across assigned locations. This role ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations—including DOT, OSHA, and EPA—and drives a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence. The EHSS Manager partners with operations, terminal, and distribution center leadership to proactively identify risks, improve driver and employee performance, and reduce at-risk behaviors.
This role partners closely with corporate, divisional, and site leadership to embed a culture of accountability, proactive risk management, and continuous improvement across all business lines — including terminals, warehouses, maintenance facilities, and transportation operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance & Documentation
· Ensure full compliance with DOT (FMCSA), OSHA, and EPA regulations, including driver qualification, hours of service, vehicle maintenance, hazardous materials handling, and environmental reporting.
· Maintain and audit all required documentation (driver logs, DQ files, medical certifications, incident records, environmental permits, etc.).
· Monitor regulatory changes and update policies, procedures, and training as needed.
· Prepare and submit required environmental reports and permits.
Safety Culture & Operational Excellence
· Champion a Safety Culture of Excellence by visibly demonstrating commitment to safety and environmental responsibility.
· Develop, implement, and continuously improve EHSS policies, procedures, and emergency response plans.
· Conduct regular compliance audits and inspections at terminals and distribution centers.
· Conduct site visits and employee observations providing constructive coaching to improve performance and reduce risk.
· Lead safety meetings, training sessions, and safety events for employees and contractors.
· Promote employee engagement in safety committees and continuous improvement initiatives.
Incident Investigation & Risk Management
· Investigate accidents, injuries, and near-misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
· Conduct risk assessments and hazard analyses to identify and mitigate workplace and environmental risks.
· Track and report EHSS performance metrics; analyze trends and recommend improvements.
Environmental Stewardship
· Oversee environmental compliance, including air and water quality, hazardous waste management, and pollution prevention.
· Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with EPA and DOT regulations.
Communication & Reporting
· Serve as the EHSS liaison for assigned locations, providing timely communication to management regarding compliance, incidents, and corrective actions.
· Supply management with regular safety, compliance, and environmental reports.
· Maintain confidentiality and accuracy in all documentation and communications.
Support Functions
· Support claims and training departments as required.

Required Skills and Qualifications
Education & Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field preferred.
· Professional certifications (CSP, ASP, OSHA 30-Hour, HAZWOPER) strongly preferred.
· Minimum 3-5 years of EHSS management experience in transportation, logistics, or industrial environments.
Skills & Competencies
· In-depth knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and EPA regulations.
· Experience with accident investigation, risk management, and compliance audits.
· Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
· Proficiency with safety management systems (e.g. Lytx, Evotix, Geotab) and reporting tools.
· Ability to train and engage employees at all levels.
Physical Demands
Ability to travel regionally and conduct field audits, inspections, and training. Must be able to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed. Close vision required for inspections and documentation.

SUMMARY
We are looking for a visionary Project Manager of Building Science Knowledge systems who will manage projects that support the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) ability to assemble, store, and disseminate codes, standards, performance criteria, and best practices in the built environment. Our goal is to make knowledge easier to access and understand so that buildings are safer, more efficient, and more innovative. This role will oversee multi-stakeholder projects ensuring alignment with client goals, scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards. The Project Manager will manage project team members, manage subcontractors, and ensure effective communication and knowledge transfer across the organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Lead planning, execution, monitoring, and closeout of assigned projects with emphasis on building technology and innovation.
- Generate project workplans for assigned projects.
- Support defining and documenting project scope, deliverables, KPIs, and success criteria; implement control mechanisms for performance tracking.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources; Estimate to Complete (ETC), forecasting, and margin. Make recommendations for actions necessary to meet targets.
- Proactively identify, track, and mitigate tasks, project, and client relationship risks.
- Establish and enforce quality management frameworks, ensuring deliverables meet or exceed client expectations.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams including architects, engineers, researchers, IT specialists, and subcontractors.
- Serve as primary client liaison, maintaining professional communication and transparent reporting.
- Oversee knowledge management practices: maintain project files, ensure accessibility of content, capture lessons learned, and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Guide stakeholder engagement activities such as workshops, webinars, and technical meetings.
- Monitor industry trends in digital codes & standards, AEC innovative solutions and integrate best practices into project delivery.
- Inform senior leaders of gaps in skills needed for project delivery.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, recommending ways to establish systematic continuous improvement as able, knowledge management plans, and change management plans as needed to support successful delivery of assigned projects.
- Ensure compliance with organizational standards, federal contracting norms, and relevant industry regulations.
- Self-manage workloads and proactively coordinate with supervisor on concerns related to workload.
- Support business development; identifying organic growth opportunities through project-based relationships.
- Demonstrate thought leadership and professional eminence by representing NIBS externally.
SECURITY CLEARANCE
A security clearance is not required, however ability to be granted or to obtain at a minimum, an interim Secret security clearance during employment and then obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance throughout the period of employment, is strongly preferred.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will have supervisory and direct report responsibilities. This position will also have responsibility for oversight of contracted staff.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in a STEAM field, project management, or construction management, though a combination of equivalent education and professional experience will be considered. The position requires 2 or more years of project management experience, with a preference for those who have managed projects specifically within the built environment. A proven track record of successfully overseeing project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and risk for high-profile initiatives is essential. Additionally, experience navigating federal government contracting and reporting requirements is highly preferred.
TECHNICAL AND OTHER SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Proficiency of project management methodologies (PMI, Agile, or equivalent).
- Proficiency with project management software, MS Office Suite, and project collaboration tools (e.g., SharePoint, Power BI).
- Conceptual understanding or better in processes, tools, and data standards required to deploy Artificial Intelligence for the built environment and blockchain for the built environment.
- Ability to digest client needs into actionable steps, document steps, update schedules, and coordinate and direct team members and subcontractors in completing work.
- Excellent written, verbal, and graphical communication skills.
- Strong leadership, facilitation, and negotiation skills.

The physical demand of NIBS positions is typical of those in an office environment. Positions require frequent use of a computer to communicate both orally and in writing.
Estimated amount of travel, not including periodic trips to the office, is 5%.
