We are seeking a Process Automation Engineer to join the Maintenance team at a highly automated steel manufacturing plant in Pueblo, Colorado.
This role is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing control systems to improve production efficiency, equipment performance, and process automation.
Key Responsibilities: MUST HAVE 5 YEARS EXPERIENCE WITH ALLEN-BRADLEY/HONEYWELL SYSTEMS Support rolling mills and steelmaking production and maintenance operations Design and implement control systems (hardware & software) to enhance productivity, quality, uptime, and energy efficiency Analyze, modify, and improve PLCs and HMIs Monitor performance indicators and integrate control systems with company information systems Provide maintenance support and resolve process control system issues Develop specifications, design documents, and systems architecture for steel production processes Manage and deliver automation-related projects Qualifications Bachelorβs degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Automated Manufacturing Engineering, or related field 5+ years of relevant experience Proficiency with Allen-Bradley PLCs, drives, HMI software/hardware, and ability to read hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic schematics Strong computer skills (Excel, Project, PowerPoint) Excellent teamwork, communication, and organizational skills Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities Willingness to be on-call to support operations as needed see above

This hybrid role blends commercial leadership with hands-on engineering, enabling operators to transition from reactive solids management to data-driven , preventative field control .
The ideal candidate is equally comfortable in the rig environment, the operatorβs office, and the boardroom β capable of translating proprietary PSD/XRF insights , patented workflows, and operational improvements into measurable commercial value for the operator.
Key Responsibilities Commercial & Technical Sales Develop and execute sales strategies for NPTLabsβ integrated drilling fluid, solids control, and real-time diagnostic offerings.
Position and communicate the value of patent-backed workflows , emphasizing exclusivity, cost avoidance, and operational control.
Lead technical presentations, performance reviews, and ROIβbased proposals for drilling engineers, superintendents, and executive teams.
Expand market share by introducing operators to NPTLabsβ preventative, measurement-driven field management model.
Support contract negotiations, pricing structures, and long-term service agreements.
Drilling Fluid Engineering Provide when required remote engineering support for drilling fluid systems, ensuring compliance with operator specifications and NPTLabsβ performance standards.
Monitor when required rheology, LGS trends, and dilution strategies using realβtime diagnostic data .
Troubleshoot fluid-related issues and implement corrective actions aligned with patented workflows.
Collaborate with operator, rig crews, mud suppliers, and solids control personnel to maintain system integrity.
Solids Control Optimization Oversee shaker, centrifuge, and cuttings dryer performance with a focus on LGS prevention , not postβevent correction.
Assist in applying PSD and XRF data to guide equipment settings, screen selection, and dilution decisions.
Evaluate solids removal efficiency and recommend adjustments that reduce nonβproductive dilution and protect fluid properties.
Document and communicate solids control performance using NPTLabsβ proprietary reporting formats.
